Metcalf Honored by USA Volleyball

 

Lincoln – USA Volleyball announced that former Husker Nancy Metcalf was selected as the 2009 USA Volleyball Indoor Female Player of the Year. Metcalf, who returned to the U.S. Women’s National Team for the first time since 2006, posted a team-leading 301 points and a 3.81 scoring average per set in 2009. She was selected to compete in six tournaments.

 

Metcalf earned the Best Spiker award at the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship after contributing a team-best 3.52 kills per set. She helped the U.S. to the silver medal at the Final Four Intercontinental Cup, as she finished with a 2.63 scoring average per set. During the premier FIVB World Grand Prix, Metcalf charted 4.25 points per set and converted 37 percent of her attacks into points. She also served as the team captain during two of the three preliminary round weekends.

 

Metcalf helped the U.S. qualify for the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix with the team’s fourth-place finish at the Women’s Pan American Cup held June 26-July 4 in Miami. She started six of seven matches during the tournament and provided averages of 3.75 kills, 0.65 blocks, 1.60 digs and 0.25 aces per set.

 

Metcalf is one of three former Huskers currently on the U.S. Women’s National Team roster, joining Jordan Larson and Tracy Stalls.

She and Mr. Metcalf owned the Haymarket Scooters for a while now, I believe. Did they open another one?

I thought they opened Haymarket in 2009 but maybe it's been longer...they also own one downtown I think.

It's been open for a few years now, and I talked to Nancy at least in 2008 about volleyball. Do they own the shop at 11th & O? And do they possibly own the very new one in the State Office building?

Yes, it is the one on 11th and O, I think that was their first one. I guess time flies because it seems like I was just hearing about the Haymarket location!

 

Quite a good Nebraska representation on the National Team roster.

I can confirm that the Metcalfs are the owners of the brand spankin' new Scooters in the State Office Building.
