2011 QB recruiting

Watson told a QB Junior Day visitor that NU will be taking 2 QB's in 2011. Since Jamal Turner is already on board, they'll be looking to take one more. They're emphasizing competition for the position.

If the huskers are taking 2 QBs maybe someone is not healthy or leaving :dunno We have 8 QBs Spano,Green,Kellogg,Martinez,Carnes,Marsh,Lee,Washington what is normal number 6 are on a full ride ?

Noooo, we are not even close to being "stacked" at QB. Gone over this a few times, but IMO we are skating on dangerously thin ice at that position. It was almost essential to take Carnes this recruiting cycle and it'd be a mistake to not take two next cycle, so I'm glad to hear this.

Of the QBs you named, Lee and Washington aren't even going to be Huskers the time the 2011 kids arrive.

Martinez has had attitude problems and was working at WR last we heard (bowl practices) - who knows where he's going to stay. Sure he's an athlete, but QBs need to get the ball to the athletes on the team.

Marsh is a DB, pure and simple.

Kellog is a walk-on. Not dissing him or the walk-on program or anything, but whether he's here or not doesn't really affect the numbers game. The need is still the same.

That leaves Spano, Carnes, and Green as our QBs heading into 2011. 3, not 8. Of these 3, Spano and Carnes are the most capable throwers, but Spano is coming off two ACL injuries and we'll have to see how he deals with that. Green has a long way to go with all facets of his game, passing especially, and all three are completely unknown commodities.

In other words, it won't take the next Matt Barkley for a true freshman to step in in 2011 and either start or seriously vie for the starting spot. Turner, if he stays with us, is also a project and will have some progress to make in the throwing department. And though he'll start at QB, it's even possible that he may end up at a different position. (I don't know how likely so don't quote me).

We need another solid passer out of the 2011 crop, IMO.

We lose 2 next year = Lee and Washington.

Marsh wasn't recruited as a QB. Bo made it clear at the signing day presser that he was recruited to play DB.

Martinez is a big question mark at QB. They'll know more after Spring whether he'll make it as a QB or if they'll place him elsewhere.

Kellogg is a scout QB. Not sure how he's progressing against the likes of Lee, Green and Washington, but if he can't pass up Washington on the depth chart, then I don't foresee him being in consideration in the future.

Green is obviously in position to challenge for the starting job this season.

Spano is another big question mark due to his rehabbed knee. An ACL injury (especially 2 of them) is a psychological thing to overcome. I imagine he'll be a step slower than he was before.

Carnes will likely redshirt.

So when the class of 2011 comes in, there will be:

Green (scholly)

*Martinez (scholly)

Spano (scholly)

Carnes (scholly)

Turner (scholly)

2nd QB from 2011 (scholly)

* Martinez might or might not be a QB when 2011 rolls around. So we're looking at 5 possibly 6 scholly QB's in 2011.
