Street Novelist
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=4983236 A call to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the article's author, was not immediately returned. In the report, Hunter was quoted as saying: "People see dark faces out there, and the perception is that they're African-American. They're not us. They're impostors. Even people I know come up and say: 'Hey, what color is Vladimir Guerrero? Is he a black player?' I say, 'Come on, he's Dominican. He's not black.' ... "As African-American players, we have a theory that baseball can go get an imitator and pass them off as us. It's like they had to get some kind of dark faces, so they go to the Dominican or Venezuela because you can get them cheaper. It's like, 'Why should I get this kid from the South Side of Chicago and have Scott Boras represent him and pay him $5 million when you can get a Dominican guy for a bag of chips?' ... I'm telling you, it's sad," he said. If a white person said this, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be all over him....probably would be the end of his career. But when a black person says this, not even a slap on the wrist. at the hypocrisy in this country Quote Link to comment

Minnesota_husker
I love Torii, was one of my favorite Twins growing up but he has a tendency to run his mouth a little. He is a good guy, who sometimes his mouth writes checks he cant cash. I dont think he is a bad guy, but i dont get why he says something like this. It is racist and not needed. USE YOUR HEAD TORII Quote Link to comment
redout22
Yeah agreed Torii Hunter is a ballplayer but he runs his mouth waaaaaay to much. He reminds me of the T.O. of baseball. Quote Link to comment
808Husker in KCMO
He kinda has a point. Black players represent 9% of big leaguers while Hispanic players make up 24% of the league. Black players are under-represented and hispanics are over-represented. It stands to reason that economics is part of what is behind this. Quote Link to comment
