bbeerma2
People always cite the increase in population in the south as a main determiner for the continued domination by the southern football powers. One thing I would argue, is that the strong increases in Texas, Arizona, Southern California and such locations cannot continue. There are already issues with providing adequate municipal water systems to the southern states that have arid climates. Eventually, the land cannot conceivably tolerate a continued increase in population in these areas. The northern states can continue to draw on the great lakes aquifers and glacial lake systems that are found in the more northern latitudes. If we talk about 50-100 year decisions in terms of conference alignment and how removing ourselves from places like Texas will kill recruiting, we must consider these types of things before making some statements. In the future, population growth will stagnate in the south and shift north, through scientific necessity. There is a possibility to purify salt-water, but it would take a massive operation to provide for this kind of continued population expansion. I cannot see areas such as Phoenix continue in their suburban expansion as present. Quote Link to comment
RockyMountainOySker
I agree with this but the states you've mentioned in the south have had water issues for a long time. Haven't you seen Chinatown with Jack Nicholson. IMO, the south will figure a way out to get more water to the people in need. This is American after all. Quote Link to comment
bbeerma2
I suppose. I recently heard tell of shipping fresh water to other countries even Quote Link to comment
kchusker_chris
this seems like a little bit of a stretch to me Quote Link to comment
