Husker_Power
Former LSU point guard transferring to Nebraska Bo Spencer, a two-year starter at point guard for LSU, is transferring to Nebraska as a walk-on, coach Doc Sadler confirmed Monday. Spencer must sit out this season. He has one year of eligibility remaining. Sadler said Spencer was not promised a scholarship for the 2011-12 season. Spencer was dismissed from LSU earlier this month for failure to meet academic requirements, according to coach Trent Johnson. The 6-foot-2 Spencer started in 28 of 31 games last season for LSU and averaged 14.5 points and 2.7 assists per game. He started 32 games as a sophomore and averaged 11.3 points. LSU was 11-20 last season and 25-10 in 2008-09. Other walk-ons on Nebraska's roster include in-state players Trevor Menke, Kye Kurkowski and Jordan Tyrance. Menke, a guard from Beatrice, has been practicing with the team this summer. Kurkowski, a 6-foot-10 center from Grant, and Tyrance, a 6-foot-4 guard from Lincoln Southwest, are joining the team today. Marshall Parker, a 6-foot-9 forward, is also transferring from Hendrix (Ark.) College and will walk on. Also, Sadler announced that senior Drake Beranek has been placed on scholarship, giving Nebraska its full allotment of 13 scholarships. Beranek transferred last season from Nebraska-Kearney and sat out last season as a walk-on. This will be his only season of eligibility with the Huskers. "He sacrificed a lot when he left Kearney and came down here," Sadler said. "As I told his parents and told him, I never thought this would happen. But it's available, and he's earned it. "It's not a gift. He probably has earned it more with his attitude and leadership than his play." Incoming transfers Andre Almeida and Kamryon Brown are both in Lincoln for the start of the fall semester, which begins today, Sadler said. LJS Quote Link to comment
