Why haven't Iowa and Nebraska played recently?

I'm seeing a lot of comments around the webz from Iowa Fan regarding the fact that Iowa and Nebraska haven't played each other in a while. DiNardo and the guys on the Big Ten Network preview of Iowa asked Coach Ferentz about his team's excitement about playing Nebraska this year. Ferentz logically started off by saying that they were disappointed that they won't play traditional rival Wisconsin every year anymore, then stated that when he's gone around the state people have been asking him when they're going to play Nebraska again, and he said that's been on their mind for a while.

But they haven't scheduled a game with Nebraska in a while because, "They're pretty good."

So we can put an end to the Iowa Fan notion that Nebraska has been "ducking" Iowa. Straight from your own coach's mouth.

Fact is in today's football world you can't afford to make your schedule any worse than it already is in conference. Ideally you have one good-to-marquee opponent and three pay-to-slays (before we add the extra conference game, that is). If there's trash talking going on, that's one thing. But who here would be thrilled to find Alabama, Florida, Oregon, and LSU on the schedule next year? More importantly, if you're a sane human being who would cringe at the idea, who would be dumb enough to chalk that up to fans 'being afraid' to play them? I'd call that common sense.
