Fred Wilson Sr., local jeweler, WW II hero, dies at 88

Fred A. Wilson Sr., a World War II hero, a Lincoln businessman for 60 years and one of downtown Lincoln's beloved favorites, died Tuesday. He was 88.

Fred Wilson Jewelers stood at 1309 O St. and was known for its proprietor's kindly nature, attentive service and a vast collection of thank-you letters posted where walk-in visitors could see how great it was to do business there. He retired in 2009 to public acclaim and the regret of customers.

Rest in peace, Mr. Wilson. Thank you for all you did for me and my family over the years. Lincoln has lost a local treasure today.
