The past 3 Gatorade players of the year in Nebraska are not wearing our uniform and that's a big problem! These kids go on and don't just play they excel other places. Drew Ott a defensive end from small town Nebraska should not be starting at Iowa making all conference and Harrison Philips from Omaha should not be contributing as a true freshman out at Stanford!

This should never happen. I know our talent pool is smaller than many other states but we do put out a few good players and those players shouldn't be leaving the State.

I agree to a point. Isn't this somewhat on the players choosing not to walk on at nebraska due to increased parity and opportunities for other programs? Hell, Shanle wasn't even offered a schollie by nebraska. Same guy 10 years later there is now more incentive to go get that scholarship at Kansas. The fat one proved you can now potentially win big there.

Here is a post allegedly from Harrison Phillips' Mom. She responded to Scott on Fb.

Thank you, Scott, for your truthful and wise words.......As the parents of Harrison Phillips, we took our son to every Husker football camp since 8th grade and supported and encouraged him when he came home so excited that he could possibly be a future Husker. At the last camp he attended, the summer before his senior year, the coaching staff put him through a day like he had never experienced at any other camp (and he attended quite a few others), only to see another out of state player offered a scholarship at the end of the day. It was after he was not offered a scholarship after four years of Husker camps and positive and encouraging visits from Husker recruiters that we took our trip to Stanford, where one day after returning home from their camp, he received an offer from Coach Shaw. Coach Pelini's offer came the next evening. It was too late--the Stanford education and the excellent coaching staff at Stanford, the competitive PAC-12 schedule, fantastic campus and faculty, and the beautiful weather had won over Harrison's heart! It would have been wonderful to see our son be a Husker and play 45 minutes from our home, but he made the best decision to play for Stanford. It is exciting to see a former PAC-12 coach come to Nebraska--a new and exciting era has begun at Nebraska. Go Cardinal! Go Huskers!
