New Operations Man Vaughn Loves Promoting Huskers, Pro Wrestlers

But Vaughn nailed the interview — so much so that Dan Van De Riet, then the Beavers’ director of football operations, called him back a few days later to tell him just that.

“Just something about that interview,” Van De Riet said. “It just struck me.”
Now Vaughn, not so coincidentally, has joined up with Van De Riet, Mike Riley and the former OSU crew at Nebraska. He was hired as the program’s director of football and recruiting operations after three years at Nevada.
Vaughn’s responsible for supervising most of NU’s in-house recruiting efforts (like the recent official visit weekend that produced four new commitments Sunday). But he’ll also contribute with the staff on the implementation of big-picture philosophies, as the Huskers try to find new ways to promote the school and reach talented high school kids. He’s eager to explore new video and mobile app possibilities now that he has Nebraska’s boundless resources at his disposal.
“I’ve never been able to sit down and have a long-term plan,” said Vaughn, who’ll earn $115,000 in 2015. “What we’re going to do with those things — that stuff’s intriguing.”
Vaughn’s already made his mark with NU fans in social media circles by tweeting out photos of hyped-up pro wrestlers on the days that recruits have made oral commitments to the Huskers.
In a 45-minute chat with reporters last month, the 33-year-old came across as measured, but clever — with selective and well-timed wit.
