Cox Communications and Time Warner will carry six Nebraska baseball games to Husker fans across the state this season.

Lincoln - The Nebraska Athletic Department and Cox Communications Omaha have entered into an agreement for baseball television coverage this season.

"We are excited to have this opportunity to work with Cox Communications on our Husker baseball television package," Associate Athletic Director Chris Anderson said. "Similar to the volleyball games we telecast on cable last fall, this allows the University a unique opportunity to market our program to new audiences utilizing the growing cable industry. This will continue to increase the visibility of our nationally-ranked baseball program and could provide a new revenue stream in the future."

Cox will make available all six Husker baseball games to Cox systems in the opposing teams’ states and will also market the games to other cable systems within the state of Nebraska. Time Warner Cable of Lincoln has announced they will also carry the Cox Communications produced games.

"The University of Nebraska Athletic Department has developed a quality baseball program," said Percy Kirk, vice president and region manager of Cox Communications Omaha. "We look forward to this expanded partnership and are honored to provide such quality programming to our viewers."

Cox Communications will produce six home Husker baseball games, including Nebraska’s game against Wichita State and the Creighton University game in Lincoln. Four of the six televised games are against Big 12 Conference opponents.

Cox Communications has secured Greg Sharpe, a veteran sportscaster, to handle play-by-play duties for all six Husker baseball games. Sharpe is a two-time Kansas Sportscaster of the Year with extensive experience calling sporting events over the past decade. Sharpe has called the play by play for the Husker men’s basketball television package for the past two years.

Paul Meyers will support Sharpe with color commentary. Meyers is the Associate Athletic Director for Development and a former Husker All-American and coach with the baseball program. Meyers began his association with the development office when he was hired in 1994. In his current position, Meyers focuses on major gift giving for the Nebraska Athletic Department.

Damon Benning will serve as the field reporter for all six games. He was an All-State baseball player for Omaha Northwest before beginning his football career at the University of Nebraska. Benning has worked in several broadcast capacities including sideline reporter and guest host positions in both radio and television.

Cox Communications of Omaha will air the Saturday games on Cable Channel 2 and the weekday games on Channel 3, while Time Warner will air the games on Channel 77. All three channels are analog and available to all Cox and Time Warner subscribers, reaching the majority of the state’s cable subscribers. Additional cable stations joining the network will be announced at a later date. Final approval of the contract by both parties is anticipated next week.

they will have 6 games on cox. heard that pederson stripped NET of its rights so that NU could make a little $ on the side. also heard that he didnt care much for kevin kugler. so much for him doing things to benefit the fans.

Whenever Kugler talks about Pederson on 1620 they always have Darth Vader's theme music playing in the background. That probably played into the decision.
