  1. You mean aside from the fact that the only person with a gun pursued and confronted the only person without a gun? That evidence is kinda crucial, and paints a very different picture of the situation. It's really hard not to paint Zimmerman as the aggressor here with the available information. He left his vehicle because the dispatcher asked him which direction Martin went, and Zimmerman was parked in a spot where he could no longer follow by vehicle. Martin at any time could have called the police himself, could have ran home, could have called his dad. Martin did none of these things, he instead keep talking to his friend on his cell, and called Zimmerman a "cracker". Why would a kid scared for his life turn and challenge a larger and older man instead of going home, calling someone to help him or getting his father involved in some way? Where is the evidence that Zimmerman instigated the altercation that lead to Martin being shot. There is none, Zimmerman showed no bruising on his knuckles to indicate he even punched Martin. Zimmerman was also the only one to sustain any injuries prior to the gun shot. Following someone is not a crime, its not aggressive, its not a justification to get into a physical altercation with someone over.
  2. I agree the altercation is completely avoidable. But a person should be given the ability to defend themselves if they feel they are in that grave of danger. It would be like saying if a bear attacks you, you will be held legally responsible for killing the bear. All of the available information and evidence pointed toward Martin being the aggressor in the fight, and slamming Zimmerman's head into a concrete walk way. If those accounts are accurate, Martin is no longer a unarmed kid, he is a man using concrete as a weapon to physically harm another human with the possibility of killing Zimmerman. If the fight got broken up before Zimmerman shot Martin, it is conceivable that Martin could have been charged with attempted murder/manslaughter. I disagree with your second statement. The coverage was caused mainly because of the race of the two individuals, and was inflamed because of the media on both sides, and people like the NAACP, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. That lead to people from the white people delegation becoming pissed that Zimmerman was also Hispanic, but every news cast labeled him as white. http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/race_buzzards_circle_trayvon_GjszYV5diCTZezdmxbrLON
  3. Anyone who had a preconceived notion that a person is guilty before a case had gone to trial is bound to be biased if that person has been found not guilty at the end of it. I personally think its an atrocity that we allow the media to sensationalize these types of cases, that in fact inflame racial division and generally end badly for prosecutors. Some examples are the Duke rape case, the Zimmerman/Martin case, and the OJ Simpson case to name a few. How can we as a country expect to overcome racism if we are told that white on black crime is worse than white on white, black on black or black on white. Regardless of skin color, we are all humans. Violence should only be used as a last resort. It appears that Zimmerman at least cares about some black people. A 2011 incident in which he accused the local police department of corruption in the cover up of a homeless black man who was assaulted by a white police officers son. http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/05/23/zimmerman-sanford-police-covered-up-beating-of-black-homeless-man-by-white-officer/
  4. In the B1G, TMart ranked #1 in QB rating, #2 in TD, yards, YPA, Comp %. That is pretty impressive for a QB who can't throw, and is known as a running QB. Sure he had some INT, and some ill timed turnovers, but given the defense he had, and the pressure he felt to constantly try and take games over, its not surprising he took risks that didn't need to be taken, and sometimes those risked worked great, and sometimes he got picked. But I wouldn't trade him for any QB in the league, and I think he finishes this year in the top 5 QB's in Husker history.
  5. IMO, it depends on the type of crime. I'd probably have a slight preference for female jurors in this case. I'm sure the racial angle will be beaten to death . . . Possibly could go the other way depending on how they play the account of the fight prior to the actual shooting. Woman might take into account (according to Zimmerman) that Martin was going through people's yards, in between houses off the sidewalk and possibly attacked Zimmerman and told him he would kill him that night.
  6. why would anyone shoot an unarmed human, who was walking away? Where is the evidence he was walking away?
  7. why would anyone shoot an unarmed human, who was walking away? yeah you might want to get more than 1 side of the story. Here' what we do know; Zimmerman called police stating that Martin looked suspicious and possibly on drugs, it has been confirmed he was not and was walking from the gas station. Zimmerman concluded the phone call to the police and approached Martin, not the other way around. After approaching Martin with a gun, Zimmerman shot and killed an unarmed adolescent that was walking through the neighborhood. Source? What we know is nothing. We know only what the police tapes say, and what Zimmerman has said. Neither one of those collaborate your statement. According to ZImmerman after the dispatcher told him to wait for police, Zimmerman (who lost sight of Martin) turned back to his truck, an as he was heading back, was confronted and then attacked by Martin. During the ensuing altercation, Zimmerman says Martin made a move toward his handgun and was unsuccessful, and at that point Zimmerman felt his life was in danger and discharged his weapon. Which he later found out was a fatal shot. Source. http://www.wtsp.com/TrayvonMartin/article/260384/406/Zimmerman-walks-through-fatal-fight-in-new-video
  8. Wasn't there a lot more scholarships during Osbourne era, a much larger practice squad, that allowed use to run 4 to 5 groups continuously during a practice? Last i heard we were down to 2 or 3 with current restrictions on team size. That effects a program top to bottom, especially one who leans on our walk on program as much as we do.
  9. I would wager in the next 10 years, that solar power will become cheap enough to become a real answer to our current energy issues. That and battery technology to help improve and modernize our current electrical grid would help reduced wasted energy production. Combine that with continuing advancements into alternative fuels for cars and we could easily reduce fossil fuel use by 50% in 20 years.
  10. I would disagree with that law. If you are always fleeing because you feel threatened then the shady people start coming cause no one is ever standing up to them. The police can't be everywhere and only a fool would rely on the police 24/7 to protect them from every danger. And during his police walk though he said after he was told to leave, he was headed back to his car when Trayvon confronted him and then attacked him, which led to a on the ground wrestling match. At some point Trayvon attempted to grab Zimmerman's gun, and this is when Zimmerman says he got full control of his weapon and fired a single shot into the victims chest. As to stand your ground or not, my feeling is there is a time to run and a time to fight. Sometimes you do not get a choice, and sometimes there is just no where else to run that is safer than standing your ground. The freedom to make a determination about your own well being is pretty important.
  11. I would think that the same way that military members are taught to follow all orders unless an order is in direct violation of law/code, Geneva convention, etc etc. Any employee should be sheltered for releasing information that they feel is against the law/ constitution. But indiscriminate release, or releasing to foreign governments, enemies of the state, etc should be prosecuted and stand trial in front of a jury of their peers. Edited: didn't like the way "no personal thought process" sounded.
  12. Its a interesting case, guilty or not is hard to say. I watched some of his police video where his walked through the thing. Pretty enlightening. It might just come down to what evidence can and cannot be presented
  13. The defense this year as I see it is like a piece of clay. We have a lot of young guys that are untested and have very little experience in games. But we also have some veterans who have played and some who have started. We have a good mix of JUCO players at positions that need depth and experience. Pelini has had 2 years of Big 10 recruiting for this defense, and now its time for him to mold that clay into what is necessary to compete against the multiple offenses of the league. When we left the Big 12, we left the ultra spread, the need to have 6 DBs and 1 LB, and our recruiting had to change to get the talent to play 3 or 4 LB on the field at any given time. We have some exciting Linebackers coming up, we have lots of talent in the back. So with all of that sunshine, I see a defense that may be soft at times, may look great at times, but will continue to get better as the season progresses, and hopefully as the competition heats up, they become a solid unit.
  14. What is the point of your post? Because one tea party group abused the system doesn't mean you just start profiling all of them. Just like how it's wrong to start surveillance on all Muslims because one group of them attacked the WTC. I don't even know what the point of your post is; are you attacking Tea Parties or the IRS or Obama or just me, for no reason? Agreed, it really isn't a problem for the IRS to investigate people who are applying for tax exempt status, but its another thing to chose a group of people who belong to a certain Ideology that may use the tax exempt status illegally. But to assume that all applicants from a political spectrum are going to abuse the status is the problem. I would be just as mad if the next administration if republican would investigate a swath of "left leaning" applicants. All applicants should be treated equally, with as much of a blind eye toward political, religious, sexual orientation, and race differences as possible.
  15. I think it all (should) boil down to what is shared and how it is obtained. Classified information doesn't always mean it should remain a secret to the US public. Its such a touchy subject to go after media people, but sometimes people have to be held accountable for releasing information that has no business being in public at that time. Take it for what its worth, not a lot.
  16. Near where I work, we have a bridge that most tractor trailers can not fit under, but Costco built a hub to restock their retail stores. Well the amount of trucks that have hit the bridge has got to be close to 500 in 4 years. For a time we were getting 3-5 trucks a day stuck or having to back up the road to miss the bridge. They have limits on bridges for a reason, and even small structural damage can be catastrophic to older bridges. Maybe state and local governments should use the gas taxes for the roads rather than all the other crap they spend it on.
  17. Can we get some links to where that graph came from? Because, I would like to see the source of all the other countries information came from. Also the graph is using gun related deaths, and not gun related homicides. In 2011, that number drops to 4 per 100,000 when you take out suicides. And I will admit that's a pretty high number, considering our country has almost as many guns as people, its not surprising that people die by guns more frequently. http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/united-states
  18. The end of global warming is here. http://phys.org/news/2013-05-scientists-co2-sequestration-technique-supergreen.html We get CO2 levels taken down, Hydrogen Fuel, and the Oceans are back to normal PH.
  19. Its is kinda funny to me, that when this thread started, we were such a dangerous country because we have so many guns available. If there is one thing I have learned in life, it is that life is complicated. And if we try to oversimplify the reasons for gun violence or the lack thereof we will always be wrong. The only common factors in homicides are that one person kills, and one person dies.
  20. Regardless if you made the thread title Brah, you have attacked the GOP and stereotyped a large swath of Americans that you hate, and you have defended the thread being about FOX when they still almost 24 hours later have not ran a single article about the Salute-gate you an Junior are trying to perpetrate on the right leaning people of this country. Hating a group based on stereotypes doesn't make you any better than the fringe elements who your stereotypes are based on.
  21. Please expand on this. I'm curious in what ways you think that the bill was rammed through and how people had no idea what they were implementing. Could you provide examples and sources for this? Were you in a coma when this bill was passed? It did not have bipartisan support (thus rammed through) and it was widely known that most if not all congress persons had not read the bill and really didn't understand much of what they were actually voting for or against. I really don't think examples or links of this situation are necessary. If you can't accept this as common knowledge, I don't want to play your game. I actually read through significantly most of this bill and I would bet dollars for donuts , to this day, I read way more of it than anyone in congress has read of it yet. So it passed the Senate 60-39. That's a super-majority to avoid the filibuster. Rammed through? Hardly. If you could show me a link where senate and house members say that they had no idea what they were voting on, I guess I'd accept that. Maybe they didn't want to read through it, but the notion that they didn't have time is laughable. Widely accepted by Fox News, maybe. That's fine if you don't want to play the game of "evidence" to support your accusations, it just makes your argument weak. Do we have such short term memory that we forget the Cornhusker Kick back? Or Nancy Pelosi saying the bill needed to be passed in order for us to know what was in it.
  22. There are riots ongoing in Stockholm, Sweden. If you read enough articles you can figure out what is going on there. Most of the details are usually at the end of the articles. That can't happen here though....right? Comparing things in many of the European nations to us gets into apples and oranges. So many societal differences. Funny, that so many people want to compare Europe and Australia to the US for health care, gun control, etc.
  23. Guns are the cause, I mean unwanted babies were the culprit. Whats next, its the increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that is directly related to temperatures, that make people less violent when earth's temperature goes up.
  24. So now we are discussing what they are inevitably are gonna do. When it was CNN and Politico who reported this.....Who is the crazy conspiracy people again? Hey, the fact that the story was already written is enough. Story shouldn't have even been written. Story shouldn't exist. So again, why are we discussing Fox News and not CNN or Politico? Fox News website still didn't have anything as of midnight CST. Yet CNN still had it as the top current news article. I mean come on give me a break. I get it, a lot of the posters on here hate fox news, and use it as a crutch to attack posters who lean to the right, but this is plan childish....big ole scary Fox News. Please CNN is now the Celebrity News Network, with the topics they cover most times.
  25. This part was/is wrong: ^^^^^As far as I can tell this hasn't happened. Are you confusing F&F with Iran-Contra? That's not the way it works. If you want to claim that the ATF gave a couple thousand guns to Mexican drug lords you need to show that the ATF gave a couple thousand guns to Mexican drug lords. I can't disprove something that has never (to my knowledge) happened. What you are providing links for doesn't seem to support your original claim. That would be the hyperbole and falsehood that I was referring to. Also . . . Uhhhhh . . . hey. It did happen under Bush. I can't imagine why you would be focusing on Obama only . . . I don't suppose you have any evidence that this (IRS) happened during the GWB presidency?
