  1. Couldn’t agree more with this. In CFB athletes>schemes. UCLA managed to create a playbook that got a ton of young talent on the field this year. Bo needs to simplify his playbook and put his athletes in position to make plays.
  2. Warranted perhaps? Would you rather be Nebraska who just lost to UCLA, or #8 Arkansas who lost to a far inferior Louisiana Monroe, or Wisconsin who lost to OSU? I think our situation is far better than what those teams showcased. It's football - you lose. People need to get over it and be constructive, not freak out. Is Wisconsin losing to OSU any different then Nebraska losing to UCLA? Yes. They went to two BCS games in recent years and have a conference title.

I don’t see a random outlier I see a trend. Being the head coach at NU is a tough job and we have some distinct disadvantages. That said I think we should be doing better and I have little reason for optimism.
  4. Hope those rumors about Carl are fake. Otherwise could be slightly embarrassing.
  5. You're wrong? that's my opinion. That whole sentiment got us Callahan in the first place. Things haven't evolved much... Tebow running the option won florida 2 titles basically. Paul Johnson was killing teams at Navy and has chronic over-achievers at GT now due to the option. As everyone else has said, see Oregon. and the zone read is 'option.' and you know what... we had an identity we could recruit to when we ran it. So, a 6-7 record last year was over achieving for GT? My fear is (and you could be correct in saying I'm wrong), once your opponents get familiar with it, it's no longer an advantage. G.T. seems to run an option offense similar to our 90's version. An updated version like Tebow's Florida, WVU, or Oregon might get you the same advantages with more balance.
  6. An argument for an updated option based offense can be made. Nebraska will always be at a disadvantage in recruiting. We will have a hard time winning recruiting battles for elite 11 QB's. There are however tons of great athlete QB's that would rather play option QB in college rather than change positions (Devin Fuller I hope). Secondly, very few teams see the option attack regularly. Preparing for it in one week can be a handful Finally, we are NU and its part of our identity.
  7. "but when people say they haven't seen enough from TM to call him good yet, I'm curious as to exactly what they're waiting for" I would be happy with Dan Persa's passing stats. I'm hopeful TM will grow into that with experience.
  8. Out of curiosity, what would you consider to be a "good year" by a senior? Joe Ganz' year? Zac Taylor's? Because Martinez, as a R-Freshman, had a similar year to their senior years. It's not a 1:1 comparison, but it's not far off. I would be more than pleased if Taylor led this team for four years and even slightly improved on his stats each year. They are different style QB's so it's tough to compare. He doesn't need to have others passing yards or passing TD's to measure up as long as he's moving the chains and scoring points. That said I would like to see his completion percentage and TD/Turnover ratio improve. Ganz 2008 had close to a 70% completion percentage and a much better TD/TO ratio. Again though I don’t expect TM to have those numbers after one season. That was Ganz’s best season and he was a senior.
  9. ^^^This^^^. Add in new O.C. and question marks at receiver. Also I know I will get slammed for this but I haven't seen enough from TM to call him good yet. To me Joe Ganz qualified as good. I'd kill to have Ganz and swift back with our current D. Well gee, I wonder.....how "good" was Ganz as a freshman? Soph? Junior? Valid point. I agree TM should improve with each new year of experience. That said, I personally wouldn't call him good based on last year. Oh I know... Now how many frosh QB records did he break again? I was pleased with TM’s accomplishments last year. That was a good year for a RS Freshmen QB. If he has the same type of year as a senior then I doubt many would characterize that as a good year. Hopefully as you pointed out he will continue to develop and improve with more time in the system.

  12. Cody didn't live up to expectations but he was a solid backup. Was put into tough situations and managed to scrape out wins. Works for me.
