  1. Yep, those 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997 & 1999 NU teams would get crushed like bugs now. We cant recruit the athletes like we did then, more and more players want to be in a pro type of system where they can show their skills. Vick, Young, etc ruined the ability to recruit a fast qb that can throw in a option run oriented offense. I think you're right to a certain extent. I really do believe that we have a group of good players on offense that are capable of winning a championship. They just need coached up. On defense, we are in desperate need of better talent, especially on the D-line
  2. I think we'd rather keep OSU in the Fiesta Bowl, otherwise the Fiesta might take a 2nd Big 12 team. They are the most likely bowl to do that. 4 at large teams LSU winning was good, it makes sure the SEC doesn't get 3 teams in. Alabama is guaranteed to be one, since they are top 4, probably #2. Stanford will probably finish #4 and that would be another guarantee. But if VT passes them, they are no longer guaranteed. Might the Fiesta take Michigan instead? If TCU moves up 2 spots they've got a guaranteed spot. I think they will rely on moving ahead of the Big 10 loser and Georgia, or Houston. 4th spot could be Michigan, if they move up 2 spots. They are looking to move ahead of the same teams TCU is. 4th spot could also be another Big 12 team--OU, KSU, or Baylor, if they move up 3 spots. Only other eligible teams for that 4th spot are Boise St, Houston, or VT if they lose tonight. It's really muddy until the final BCS standings come out because we don't know if Michigan and/or TCU is eligible, and in TCU's case, eligible=guaranteed. The thing about it is that if the championship is an SEC-SEC matchup, they could grab another SEC team (Arkansas) for a BCS bowl which would be just as bad. And to answer JTrain, no doubt in my mind we need to root for Wisconsin because if they lose, they would likely be chosen ahead of us for a bowl game given they beat us head-to-head. If MSU loses, we won the head-to-head so we SHOULD get a higher bowl if they lose.
  3. Yep their whole family are huge Hawkeyes and both of the Stoops brothers played here. Back in 1999 when Hayden Fry stepped down here Bob was primed and ready to fill the coaching spot, but our AD at the time had to get too full of himself and wouldn't bring him on right away while he was available. So Bob did what anyone else would do and basically said "Screw you, I'll take my ball and go to Oklahoma." Iowa settled for Kirk Ferentz and the rest is history. Well that worked out well...
  4. Gotta say, I did not expect such a high score again...
  5. Are you implying that Southern Miss has better players (athletes) then we do?? Really?? How many Lavonte Davids, Fonzo Dennards, Burkheads, Cricks, etc. do they have?? I love how the guy lists the four best players on this team, 3 of which are graduating seniors, and then puts a little etc. on the end of that. LOL. Some of your posts make me laugh. You care to fill in more of those names? What if Southern Miss does recruit consistently more talented players than Nebraska? Or what if their coaches just develop lesser talented players better than we do? Anyone can come on here and name our best players and the say "etc." I hate to inform you that there are a lot of teams out there that don't just rely on 4 guys to carry their team. You gonna sit here and try to tell me that Burkhead didn't carry this offense this year? You gonna try to tell me that when we lost Crick our defensive line didn't fall apart? How would this team have faired without Fonzie and David out there? Yea, that's what i thought. Every team has playmakers, but lots of other teams get consistent play from nearly every position on the field. Not great play, but consistent play. Don't be surprised if Southern Miss comes in here next year and plays a tough game. Explain to me what Crick did for the d-line. It stunk when he was still playing and it stunk after he got hurt. Yes, who the hell is Crick? The guy wasn't missed at all on the defensive line this year. You trolls got to get help. Are you being serious? Yeah, Crick was a good player, but we didn't skip a beat without him. Granted, the results were just as underwhelming as they were with him, but IMO he made almost NO difference on the D-line. In fact, him getting injured may have been a blessing in disguise because we got experience for guys like Chase Rome, Jay Guy, and a couple other guys that will really be valuable going into next year. Logic/Reality doesn't sit well with this guy.... Are you being serious? What is there to disagree with? Left myself open with that.... I was actually agreeing with you, and the logic/reality comment was towards truered guy, the one you were talking too... my bad... Ohhhh I gotcha. It's all good man
  6. I told you guys! Think about if they put in their better QB. How good would they be then? Lee is a better thrower, but LSU is much more dynamic with Jefferson and his threat of running. Their passing game for the most parts are easy throws, just get it to a receiver and let them make a play. I'm not so sure. Early in the season when Lee was starting, I thought that LSU's offense was MUCH better than it is now. If it weren't for special teams plays, this game is pretty close.
  7. f'ing' A RIGHT MAN! We do that sh#t every down. We don't bullrush, speed rush, our DE's don't get a chance to make plays, and our DT's aren't allowed to rush upfield because we might open up a lane! Uh-oh, we might make the QB make plays to beat us instead of giving him all day to find an open man. Asking our secondary to stay in solid coverage for 20 seconds every play is a joke. We don't even let the line go on 3rd downs! It has been and will be the downfall of this defense as long as we continue this kind of play on the defensive line. I am glad that someone else sees it too. I'm glad you agree. I was just talking about this with my old man last weekend, and I think it is the one thing in Pelini's scheme that needs to be changed up big time. Wow looks like we have our new co-DC...imagine that right on huskerboard. Maybe they forced Carl out to make way for you Oh my lord, don't act like that. If you disagree then make a point and argue it instead of making high schooler comments like that

  11. That Honey Badger is freakin' ridiculous!
  12. Burkhead isn't a bad trade-off though...right? I agree. You can't beat a consistent player, especially one who is consistently as good as him.
  13. Yep, not what I expected from this thread, but since it turned toward recruiting, I'll say this: Anybody see that kid from Omaha that caught that TD pass for Oregon last night? Too bad we let him get away...
  14. Usually it works two ways. The guy gets a lump sum like Turner Gill is getting or they deduct the coaches new salary from what he would get from his old contract. For example when we let Frank go he was due 900,000 a year (number used as an example) and Ohio only paid him 600,000. Nebraska only has to pay him 300,000 For each year on his contract that he was to work at NU. I've never heard of a guy getting fired and having a buy out or restriction not to work or forfeit all the money due to him. I'm sure there would be legal issues since you were dismissing him. So who ever is stating this most likely has a lot of bong resin clouding his reasoning. What I don't understand--never have and never will--is why college coaches have buyouts in their contract... In no other profession that I can think of does this happen. If a Walmart employee gets canned for no reason, should Walmart be required to pay them whatever they were making to make up for it? This probably isn't the best analogy because Walmart employees don't have contracts, but still...

  16. For the record, Badgerfan, I will be rooting for Wisconsin to blow MSU out of the water.
  17. You do realize how bad of a football game that would be right? The scenario is highly unlikely. OSU would need to hang a 100 on Boomer for that to happen. And Georgiawould have to embarrass LSU the rest of this one. I realize what you're saying, and you're right that this is the national perspective on the deal, but to me, letting LSU still get into the national title game with a loss is a total double-standard for the SEC. Regardless of what they've done before this point which I respect completely, if any other team from another conference were in the same situation and then lost in the conference championship, they would get booted down a few spots in the rankings. So why would it not happen to LSU? It makes no sense...
  18. I'm interested to see what happens if LSU loses this game. IMO, here's what SHOULD happen: Title game: Bama-Okie State (if OSU wins tonight) Georgia gets BCS bowl (obviously) This slides LSU out of the BCS picture. WOW! Therefore if we go to the Capital One Bowl, we could possibly face LSU. This is the definition of chaos...
  19. That doesn't make any sense. TCU has lost 2 games already. In no way do they deserve a BCS bid. And correct me if I'm wrong: wouldn't they have to be in the top 14?...
  20. If you're not watching the Houston-Southern Miss game right now, you should turn it on. Southern Miss is up 14-0 in the 2nd quarter! Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Houston loses that means a better bowl opportunity because another BCS spot would be opened, probably ensuring that Michigan gets in.
  21. Ya, i remember that play. Oregon does the counter read. So for example, the right RB runs in front of the QB going left. The QB puts ball in his stomach and reads. If he pulls it, him and the other RB run out right on the option where the QB reads the end/LB and keeps or pitches. Nice play b/c I like how it starts with the counter read getting the defense flowing one way, or if they dont the ball is given to the read RB. Hell of a play Definitely my favorite play of the season. So many things they have to defend! And I loved how Urban Meyer was so baffled by it.
  22. Hellz yeah. Get him on for the bowl game so he can start getting to know the players and the system. I think it would help transition to next year.
  23. haha my bad. I've been corrected already, and I do remember now it was Brad Pitt. Honestly not my favorite movie but still worth the watch. Nenetheless, I grant myself one of these >
  24. "Those who talk about surprise parties get the ban hammer." No. The second rule of surprise parties is YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT SURPRISE PARTIES. I can't believe you didn't get that reference. Classic movie, man. I'm only 20, knapp! I don't watch the classics. I've never seen a move made after 2000. Didn't you know that? I'm 21 and I've seen Fight Club. It's Ben Affleck, and you should watch it sometime. It gets a little long but a pretty good movie.
