  1. Okay, I'll admit you guys make some good points. Maybe it's not a good idea. Just food for thought for a slow Tuesday.
  2. I whole-heartedly admit that I cheered full throttle for each opponent we faced in 2007. HECK YES you should cheer against your team if it results in you getting rid of Callahan and Cosgrove.
  3. This isn't true for a guy who hasn't played a snap. If he didn't play for the whole year, then he redshirted and can immediately transfer.
  4. What's so wrong with saying, "If you don't pull your weight, your gone"? Every single one of us faces this every single day when we go to work. Why should these kids get special treatment? I'd have an end-of-the-year review and tell the kids, "You will remain on scholarship for the spring, but by next fall you won't have a scholarship." It gives them plenty of time to transfer or make other plans. Why is that so unethical? This is sports. Sports has always been about the best receiving the rewards and the not-so-good not getting rewards.
  5. The problem that I have with over signing is that the players aren't told that their scholarships can be yanked. My point is that, so long as you give fair advanced warning, there's no problem with yanking the scholarship. We are trying to prepare these kids for life? What better education than to learn that underachieving does NOT result in rewards.
  6. It hurts our program that too many recruits don't end up seeing the field. Micah Kreikenheimer (is that how it's spelled?) is the classic example of why we are hurting. Here's a way to fix the problem with recruits that don't pan out: In the future, tell recruits that they have to remain in the top 85, or else they can lose their scholarship. These recruits all think that they'll be #1, so they will laugh at such a disclaimer. However, when they later fall off the radar, they cannot claim they weren't warned. This gives Bo the ethical high ground to pull a scholarship from a guy. I don't have any problem with this approach.
  7. This would solve the problem of carry Micah Kreikenheimers (I think that's his name) for four years.
  8. I'm not here to start a "fire Bo" thread. Just being realistic on how I perceive Bo's lukewarm desire to the Husker's coach. Nothing more, nothing less.
  9. I don't hate Bo. I surely don't want him fired, as nobody would ever come to NU after Solich AND Pelini got the axe after 9+ win seasons. However, my gut instinct is that Pelini is not happy here. If he bolted for another program, we'd have plenty of people lining up to take the job. Sorry, long since tired of Bo and his drama queen act. Tired of always having to worry about his emotional state.
  10. Robsker, That is the best insight that I have read on any board this year. EXCELLENT post, and right on the money. You seriously answered some of my questions.
  11. 1. Pelini is too green (and too stubborn) as a coach to realize that he doesn't know everything. He needs to stop putting guys in his doghouse and just let them play (PJ, Jamaal Turner, Osborne). 2. No Jamaal Turner for the last month. Two losses. Hmmm . . . . just wondering if he might have helped (You think?) 3. Brady Hoke made Bo look like an amateur. Seriously. 4. My gut instinct is that the defense is worse this year because Bo gave full control to Carl. Carl's a nice guy, but he ain't Bo. 5. Tired of hoping for a few more recruits to make us better. Michigan didn't get any recruits and Hoke is just fine. 6. Pelini's "me against the Nebraska world" mentality is taking its toll. Unless he reverses ship, we'll never completely turn the corner. 7. Beck will be just fine. This is his first year. There have been some missteps, but I am pleased with his direction. 8. The O-line feels like the Kevin Cosgrove defenses: We knew it would never get better until he was gone. 9. How does a fiery coach like Pelini have teams that fail to play with fire? 10. If Les Miles retires within the next 5 years, Pelini will run into the arms of LSU (and I don't think I'll miss him).
  12. This guy has had a great year. I'm not going to pile on for one game. Glad he's on our team.
  13. Anyone ever tell you your hindsight is right at 20/20? Brilliant. This should not have been a hindsight 20/20 decision. Prior to the snap, they should have thought solely about containing. It's a no-brainer. I'm not furious or going to demand somebody's firing, I'm just saying that it was an amateur mistake. The most likely outcome of attempting the block occurred. We should not have even tried.
  14. Who was the genius who decided to go for the block? We were going to field the punt at mid-field, and probably take it to their 35. But, no, some genius said, "Go for the block." In the thousands of football games I have watched, I have seen a team block a punt when it tried to about .00001% of the time. The risk/reward ratio is so wide that it is not worth the risk. There was no way that we should have even attempted to block that punt.
  15. I don't want a patsy. What's the point if we beat Virginia in a bowl. If Bo has three weeks to get ready for someone like Texas, it will be a fun win. I don't expect to end like we did last year against Washington. That was the worst bowl matchup in modern bowl history. I don't entirely blame us for being flat in that game. That's just real life. We need to finish our last two games strong, to build momentum for next year.
  16. We all knew that there was no way we were going to play for the NC this year. However, I am like everybody else. Before the Wisconsin, I was believing the hype. Today showed us that we have a ton of new players and new coaches this year. There was way too much new stuff going on this year for us to make a serious run at anything. If we close out Iowa and beat Texas in the Insight Bowl, that will be a great year at 10-3. If we go this route, we will have beaten Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa, and Texas. That's a phenomenal year for this group. Next year will be our chance to make a run. I'm proud of the Huskers, even though today sucked.
  17. The Insight Bowl pits Big 10 number 4 or 5 versus Big 12 number 4. A very real possibility that we'll end up playing Texas. I wouldn't mind. It would bring passion to an otherwise lackluster bowl game. I am taking this season in stride. I would like to knock off Texas and gear up for next year.
  18. Tape the game and go to the funeral. Do the right thing. You will look incredibly flaky if someone learns that you skipped out on or left the funeral early.
  19. Get over to ESPN and vote on this. They have about 6 questions to answer, including, "Which program is historically more prominent?" Right now, MIchigan is way ahead. Time to change that. Here's the link: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/polls?pCat=46&sCat=2686
  20. If the Fiesta loses the Big 12 champion, then it gets the second and last pick. If we get picked second, we would be staring at a match with Cincinnati. Wow, that really gets the juices flowing.
  21. Wow! Are you sure you are not my alter ego? Don't want to expend anymore energy hoping that "NW beats MSU"... or a bunch of top1-10 teams lose and open the doors for an at-large BCS. Just not worth the brain cells. Dude, that was hilarious . . . and true!
  22. You must have not watched any of our games starting from halftime against Ohio State. I'm not suggesting Taylor is incapable of passing, I'm just suggesting that he is a much better runner than thrower.
  23. So you're saying turn the defense up to 11? Yes: http://www.google.co...vh=168&hovw=299
