  1. I thought more notable was that Eichorst has been there a couple days and "keeps missing" Bo Pelini. Isn't that one of the first people you meet? I don't care how busy either of them are, I find that very odd. Bo should have made the time to meet his new boss and/or Eichorst should have made the time to meet with Bo, the current head of the most important aspect of his new job. Suspect this probably has something more to it. Bo has been too busy updating his resume per some posters request! No time to worry about his former schools new AD! Ain't that right Lando?! I wish!! Patience...patience.
  2. Then it's a good thing nobody is making that argument, huh? Are you kidding me? I know you read closer than that. People are making that argument all over this place. Can you point out where I've made that argument? Because if not, I have no idea why you're talking to me about it. It was a general observation in a related back and forth with you. I never said you made that argument. If I used the term "you" as in "you can't make that argument", it was intended to be read as "people" in general rather than "you" specifically. Besides, who says I'm talking to you? Maybe you're talking to me.

  4. So, he has less than 500 posts. does that mean he's not allowed to express his opinion. :dunno :dunno Just don't clutter up the board with redundant threads that simply resay what has already been said. You are living in a dream world if you think your opinion warrants a thread of its own. Delusions of grandeur. T_O_B And you are living in a dream world if you think your opinion is any more accurate or important than anyone else just because you have more posts than them. And your opinion of his opinion doesnt matter any more than his opinion of that opinion. This is my opinion, and I'm sure you'll have a low opinion of it. Well, that's your opinion.
  5. Which would tell us something if Bo and Tom had both started off with teams that had just won back-to-back national championships. Unfortunately, Bo didn't have that luxury. Okay, fine. Then quit using the "we almost ran Tom out of town at this point in his career and thank God we didn't because look how that turned out for us" argument. As you've illustrated, it's an apples to oranges argument with completely different circumstances. I really don't care if you don't like it, or if you think it's apples and oranges. It illustrates that emotional fans and boosters often don't make logical decisions. Get over your dislike of the argument. The point is, the quest to run TO out of town may well have been irrational and the quest to run Bo out of town may well be very rational. It's not necessarily the case that it's emotional fans being illogical. The argument that they should be viewed the same way doesn't hold water because as you've illustrated, they are apples to oranges situations.

  8. I thought the media asked him some really tough and stupid questions following his statement at the presser. Why he didn't act like a child and verbally berate them and resort to trite, one word responses is beyond me. Oh...because they were just doing their job and he prefers to be a grown up and represent the university in a positive manner? Interesting concept.

  10. You're right. But in my opinion, neither number is impressive so it doesn't much matter how you want to look at it...6-11 or 3-14 against ranked opponents. In my opinion, both are below what Nebraska standards should be. So what are "Nebraska standards"? I'm sure everyone has a different idea but I see a lot of people who want to compare TO at this point in his career to Bo...TO almost getting run out of town and aren't we glad he didn't and we should look at Bo the same way, etc. Let's take a look at these same stats for Osborne's first 4.5 years and see how they stack up. And don't give me that Bo's cupboard was bare and Tom's wasn't. Bo inherited plenty of talent. Looking at only games against ranked opponents at the time of the game... 1973 UCLA - W - 10 NC St - W - 14 Missouri - L - 12 Kansas - W - 18 Colorado - W - 17 Oklahoma - L - 3 Texas - W - 8 1974 Kansas - W - 13 Oklahoma - L - 1 Florida - W - 18 1975 Missouri - W - 12 Oklahoma - L - 7 Arizona St - L 7 1976 Missouri - L - 17 Oklahoma St - W - 13 Oklahoma - L - 8 Texas Tech - W - 9 1977 Alabama - W - 4 So, we see that Bo is 6-11 against ranked opponents. Osborne was 11-7 against ranked opponents through the same point in his career.
  11. Interesting point. Should be easy enough to research. This appears to be true. Here's a little data to back up this back and forth... Bo's Teams - Games vs ranked opponents and their ranking at the time and unranked losses. 2008 Virginia Tech - L - NR Missouri - L - 4 Texas Tech - L - 7 Oklahoma - L - 4 2009 Virginia Tech - L - 13 Missouri - W - 24 Texas Tech - L - NR Iowa State - L - NR Oklahoma - W - 20 Texas - L - 3 2010 Texas - L - NR Okie State - W - 17 Missouri - W - 7 Texas A&M - L - 18 Oklahoma - L - 10 Washington - L - NR 2011 Wisconsin - L - 7 Michigan St. - W - 9 Northwestern - L - NR Penn State - W - 12 Michigan - L - 20 South Carolina - L - 10 2012 UCLA - L - NR Ohio State - L - 12 So, Bo's record against ranked (at the time of the game) opponents is 6-11 with 7 more losses coming to unranked opponents. Now, let's look at where those ranked teams finished in the polls. Because let's face it, an early win against a highly ranked Arkansas really means squat this year so ranking at the time is a little misleading. 2009 Missouri - W - NR Oklahoma - W - NR 2010 Okie State - W - 13 Missouri - W - 18 2011 Michigan St. - W - 11 Penn State - W - NR So in looking at that, 3 of Bo's wins against ranked opponents can probably be chalked up to the fact that the teams were overrated when we played them. So, technically, Bo has beat 3 teams that were ranked when we played them and finished the year ranked. None finished ranked in the top ten so I can see where people say he's never beat a top ten team.
  12. It's not that he's firey or passionate or edgy or has a temper or whatever you want to call it. That can be effective (saban). The problem with Bo is that his outbursts come from insecurity. An insecure hot head is laughed at. A secure hot head is respected. And don't mistake cockiness for confidence. Some of the cockiest people I know are some of the most insecure.
  13. I don't think Texas thought Mack Brown was a "sure thing hire". He had done some good things with North Carolina (basketball school) but he was a prospect in that he hadn't won a national championship yet. I think when people talk about "sure thing hires", they mean coaches that already have the skins on the wall. I think when it comes to coaching candidates, there are 4 groups ranked in order of likely to succeed... First group - The one that is a "sure thing" only has 3 people in it. Alabama's got one of them, Ohio State's got another one and the third is currently coaching the Seahawks. Those guys each have multiple NC's, thereby making them as close to a "sure thing" hire as you can get. Second group - A few guys who have one NC. Not really a sure thing, but having the skin on the wall of a NC is a really good resume for being able to do it again. That's what Saban was when Alabama got him. He now has 2 more. Third group - These are the guys with head coaching experience who have done great things at inferior schools and appear to be ready for the next level. That's what Mack was when Texas got him and Urban was when Florida got him and Saban was when LSU got him. Sometimes it translates up to the next level...sometimes it doesn't. Fourth group - The hot coordinators with no head coaching experience who just might be ready to make the jump. Again, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Worked for OU, but statistically speaking, it's probably much more the exception than the rule no doubt. That, of course, is what we have now.
  14. Which is why we won't be able to bring in top tier coaching talent in any position. The expectations are too high. Not saying that they shouldn't be high, but we are inpatient as a fanbase. Probably the most inpatient one when it comes to college football. Ask John L. Smith who the most impatient fans in college football are when he's looking for a new job after this season's over. We're not the most ANYTHING fans in college football. We're just fans, like everybody else. Exactly! Anyone who thinks Nebraska fans are more impatient or have any higher expectations than any other top-tier program, obviously hasn't spent any time around any other top-tier programs...regardless of what Bo Pelini wants you to believe. I've got news for you and him, ALL premier programs are high pressure gigs with extremely high expectations and impatient fan bases.
  15. Talk about baffling. Although I agree that Eichorst won't make that change this year (unless things get really bad), please tell me what about Bo Pelini is reflective of Nebraska's values and traditions? This should be entertaining. EDIT: I'll give you one to get you started...Bo appears to be running a clean program. He and 100 other head coaches at other programs. What else?
  16. To expand on this point, Osborne fully endorsed the Pederson hire so part of that lies at his feet. He also misfired on the Pelini hire (even if you or others refuse to accept it at this point) so that's on him. Point being, TO's hiring record is much worse than Perlman's. Don't always agree with you, but this is spot on. Something for people to keep in mind when calling for Bo's head this year. I'll admit that I want him gone as soon as possible, but one has to look at all the factors to ensure it's not just the right thing to do, but the right time to do it. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but pretty much worthless if we don't learn from it.
  17. This^^^ Whether your guy has any inside info or not, there is no way the new AD pulls the plug on Bo in his first year unless things REALLY go in the tank. Those dreaming for a new coach this year are really wishful thinkers...very slim chance it happens. That said, Bo's long term job security (anything past this year) got shorter when TO retired. Again, even if none of the rumors are true, it stands to reason that just simply based on the fact that Bo was Tom's guy, he had more security with him than he will with Eichorst, who very well may want his own guy. Pretty simple deductive reasoning and just happens to be in line with a lot of rumors that are flying around out there.
  18. Doubtful Bo gets any sort of extension anytime soon unless he REALLY turns things around. Even then, extended contracts don't mean squat in today's game. Many contracts are terminated early with a buyout and Bo's would be too if the new AD wants him gone. Thankfully, from what I'm hearing, it sounds like TO "retiring" is the first step in getting rid of Bo. So, to answer your question, it sounds like all of Bo's job security rode out of town with TO.
  19. And Bill Snyder has been coaching longer then Bo has been alive...People comparing Bo to coaches that have been in the game for a long time are not all there...Why don't you guys compare him to coaches that have been coaching the same number of years and compare those and see what you think. I'm pretty sure it won't change your mind cause I'm sure you will come up with another excuse on why Bo needs to go. It was a general statement to all...not just you Paul in WI I wasn't trying to make any comparisons between Snyder and our staff. I'm simply saying that he evidently is on to something that we need to learn from and aspire to, because frankly the state of Kansas has the same geographic shortcomings as Nebraska in recruiting talent and fielding good teams. He's a sharp guy and has obviously learned how to overcome some of the obstacles that are currently plaguing our program. We shouldn't be above evaluating his methodology in order to improve our football program. Afterall, that's how other programs caught up to us when we ruled supreme. I agree with you on that...Snyder is a great coach and it wouldn't bother me one bit if Bo got some lessons from him. HA! - Bo burnt that bridge a long time ago with one of his many verbal tantrums. He'd have about as good of a shot of getting Pedy to return his calls.
  20. Bingo. Devaney was a great, great coach who knew full well how to ignore wild, ego-driven fans. There were droves of them demanding TO's head too. TO of course knows that too but now he's gone. Scary. Another Pedeyshine and Nebraska is Minnesota for decades. Times have changed since the Bob-Father.
  21. ...and you know this how. The negativity in your posts make me want to throw up and most of them are just plain silly. Take your nickle and go buy a stick of gum. T_O_B TOB - You need to get out a little more if you don't know that's true about the national perception of Bo. He's a laughing stock. Go read some other team's forums, look at what other media is saying about him, talk to some fans of some other teams. And it's not just teams in the B1G or teams we are playing who might have a reason, it's teams who have no vested interest whatsoever. Most people see him as a joke except for some homer Nebraska fans. Not my opinion...fact. If you don't believe me, go research it yourself.
  22. When he's an abysmal failure in Dallas, like he is everywhere else he goes, can we finally put this myth to bed? He's off to a great start. Fielding arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL with his own hand-picked guys. This Tennessee Titans fan disagrees with you on "worst offensive line in the NFL" that belongs to my Titans. Now that I've had time to think about it and let my emotions cool off, I can make a coherent post. I like Bo. I want Bo to be the guy. I can take losing to a more talented team/team with a great quarterback. However, what I cannot take, and most of you will agree, are the meltdown loses. Say we lose by 7 or 10 or 14, I don't think any of us thought we would go into Columbus and win unless we played 100% perfection. But Bo's teams have the ability to make a respectable loss into a complete meltdown disaster. I thought we had a chance if we did a few things: Contain Miller, which we didn't do after the first quarter. No turnovers, which did not happen. Minimize penalties and do not put us in bad positions, which we did not. Bo's first few recruiting classes were crap and it's showing now. I know the guys are giving their hardest effort, at least I hope, and I want them to succeed, and I try not to rail on the players but it just isn't working. We got some good players on the sideline and in the recruiting wings, so there is hope for the future. We can take loses. Just look at Nebraska from 1972-1993. 1998-2001. It's okay, we don't expect to go undefeated every year, or every 2 years or go 60-3 in five years. But we DO expect to at the very LEAST win the division, compete for the Conference title, which gives us a BCS Bowl game shot and an outside shot at the National Title. Those are my expectations at least. I want Bo to be the guy, but the inability to hire experienced coordinators and the combination of crappy first two recruiting classes are REALLY showing this year and in a bad way. I can take losses. But what I cannot take are the meltdowns on national TV. Those have got to stop. It's just a joke. That and the penalties, mental errors, and Mr. Turnover bug. The offense has made improvements. Taylor showed heart while having a terrible night. Kenny Bell has amazing hands and the running backs are impressive. We have play-makers on offense but the offensive and defensive lines are terrible. We are too slow on defense and have been for two years. I knew we were in trouble when I saw the Southern Miss game, too slow on defense. We don't tackle well and we can't keep guys in front of us. I remember a quote from McBride that was posted on here a while ago that summed it up as "if you don't have a defensive [or offensive line] you can go home." We need: Speed on defense, speed on defense, and more speed on defense. Improve the lines and we are where we need to be. Competing for the Conference title, giving us a shot at a BCS bowl, and an outside chance of a National Title. But it has to start with Bo admitting faults and make changes whatever it maybe. Scheme, personnel, players on the field, take over the defense completely, make drastic changes in the off-season, or just play the best athletes on defense and hope for the best. Do we put Stafford at linebacker? Change up the safeties? Where is Andrew Green at? Where is the zone defense? Zone blitzes? Cortney Osborne? Younger athletic linebackers? The defensive line is a mess and I don't think it can be cured during the season. Where are the JUCOs that can make an immediate impact? Seisay anyone? I don't know what we can do on the defensive line. Martin shows flashes, but no one else really does. Compton can get to the quarterback but he has problems finishing off the play. We need speed on defense and sure tacklers. We continually give up 5 or 6 yards a pop on a run. We get pushed back. We are timid and do too much reading and not enough attacking. I never thought we'd see a Bo Pelini defense look so inept. But when you don't have the horses, you can't be competitive. I figured at worst, we would be in 2003 mode under Bo. Below average offense but a great defense to keep us in EVERY game. That is not the case anymore. We have talent in some spots, but not enough to be where we need to be. And we have to fix that as soon as possible. I just hope Bo is the guy that can get it done because if not we will be rebuilding for even longer. We cannot afford to fire Bo for anything less than consecutive losing seasons or NO ONE will want to come here. That is a fact. Bo is the guy until we have back to back losing seasons. I just hope he can get it figured out so we don't have to go through it again. Unless someone has a crystal ball and knows all the answers.... I agreed with what you said, except for this part. I think it's pretty much impossible for us to have back-to-back losing seasons, simply because of our non-conference schedule and the other similar teams in the conference. IMO, back-to-back seasons with 8 wins or less would constitute a change. I also don't agree that "no one" would come here -- money talks. Yep. Solich getting fired after a 10 win season after having just completely rebuilt his entire staff a year earlier and having one coach (Urban Meyer I think) comment on that being an unrealistic job expectation is nothing even close to reasoning that "no one would want to come here" if we fired Bor for the crap he's trotting out there in year five...whether its 4 wins or 8.
  23. If we have any standards whatsoever, his seat should already be very toasty. The guy does just barely what he's supposed to do minus usually one game he shouldn't lose and does it all in an embarrassing manner that has the rest of the college football laughing at what a jackass he is. That's not what I'm looking for in MY Nebraska program. If that's good enough for some of the rest of you, then I feel sorry for you.
  24. Hey Woody, How long do you think Meyer will stay at Ohio State? Here he has Braxton Miller-really good qb-Braxton keeps playing well, tOSU wins the MNC and Braxton wins the Heismen then Braxton graduates. Does Meyer take a walk like he did when Tebow graduated or does he stay? Who cares if he does leave? OSU has one more national title and one more heisman and we're still sitting around with 8-9 wins a year hoping the Pelini experiment works "next year"...but we can talk sh#t to OSU about their coach who leaves them? Yeah...that would be awesome!! ::eye roll::
