  1. Just an observation, but it seems to me that during the Pelini era--our offense and the play-calling has always been "built" around that one great offensive player----be it Ameer, Martinez, Burkhead, etc. and the whole gameplan is designed for that one guy to perform--and when they do--we win, but when we dont----we lose. We seem to get little out of out back-ups (in close game or when we really need them to step-up) and I dont think its a talent issue as much as it is the strategy in having that one go-to guy. In big games, it;s simple for the D to focus on that one start player and shut them down--and when that happens- we go to sh#t. Just my take,
  2. as a former competitive lifter, I almost never stretched (conventional stretching) before a workout, esp squats---did a lot of warm-ups and range of motion type reps, but no stretching
  3. He did not say to try for a close win, he simply said, that this early in the season, a tight win (7 or less) would be perceived to be more impressive than a blow-out....we are talking perception here. You blow a team out---and the nation, the fans, etc, think and say.....well, the other team (MSU) was not that good to begin with,,,they loss to Oregon, who lose to AZ...etc,etc. I think he has a very valid point,,,,,and it was specific to the timing in the year.
  4. I was having lunch this week with a friend, who is not a Nebraska fan, but follows NCAA football very closely and he said something like "Nebraska does not want to have a blow-out win against MSU, they wont a close win. I of course argued that the bigger the margin of victory, the better and he said, "Well if you beat them in a close game, it looks like you beat a great team, a top-ten team, but if you blow them out, say 17 or more points,,,than it looks like you beat a over-rated team...that should not have been ranked that high and therefore, the victory (in the eyes of voters, etc) is not as great. Took me awhile to process that, but I think he is correct.
  5. I will share what has been my gut prediction/feeling all week long. If we win...we win big, like a reverse of the score last year. 41-17, something like that. This game reminds me of the NU vs Colorado match up of 1992. Both teams were ranked even in the AP Polls, but Colorado appeared to have the upper hand, They came into the game in the top 20 in ALL defensive categories and had a 25 game conference winning streak going. They had the hot hand at the time. Nebraska, on the other hand had a streak of 0-8 against top 20 teams--they had been beaten soundly in bowl games by Florida teams...and the word was that TO just could not turn the corner and win the big one. A young QB named Tommie (Freshman at the time) and a stud RB named Calvin ran roughshod over the Buffalos. John Parella, had 8 tackles and 3 sacks for the Huskers. It was a nationally televised game....and it was cold and raining that day. Nebraska 52 Colorado 7 Deja Vu
  6. OFFENSE: Start fast and keep a good pace going. MSU D can be fatigued and slow down in the second half TA: use your legs---you are probably the second best back we have---the more you can hit the hole and run the read option, the more you open up AA. How about a QB draw now and then? short swing passes to AA long ball to our receivers O---limit the dumb penalties When you are up 13 points in the second half,,,step on their damn throat and dont let them back in DEFENSE: Get to the QB. make him pay LB---time to step up gentleman. Watch for fake punts, FG's etc VV----its time baby, time to let the world know that you will be the dominant player in Football in the next two years
  7. I do think it may play into things....just a bit.......very slight disappointment for the Spartans and a slight "bump" for the Huskers....just from a mental standpoint. Glad it happened when it did. will take any and every edge we can get.
  8. YES, even if its just a couple here and there,it gives defenses something extra to prepare for. They need to run more QB draws, but TM needs to hit the hole and go---so many times when its a passing situation, he seems to start running,,,but very tentatively..as if he is still looking for a receiver..once the decision is made to run....hit the gas
  9. I am wondering what effect that a game like last night would have on recruits. One one hand, maybe they say....wow, this team sucks.....they had to comeback to beat a non -ranked team at home.....or.......wow, what an amazing comeback, the team never quit, the atmosphere was electric,,,I cant wait to play here. Opinions?
  10. Gentleman,,,,and Ladies,,,,,,hell of a game, enjoyed the discussion immensely,,,,,singing off from Charleston, SC for the night
