  1. A 5+ year rebuilding plan is all well and good if you show improvement year over year. The reason for so many freshmen and sophomores is because a lot of players have transferred out well before eligibility has been used. Miles has had too many assistant coaches leave the university to other teams in lateral moves. In 5 years, there is still zero sense of an offense. My biggest gripe with Miles are the offensive lulls. Don't have to convince me. Happen far too often. Often lack an identity. Felt like it used to be consistently getting it to the rim. I just view Miles's tenure here as 2 separate terms. The first term was the first 3 years that had a transition year, transfer quick fix that turned into NCAA bid, and disappointing follow up year. The second term is the last 2 years built around mostly freshman and sophomores where your leading returning scorer left in the middle of summer. So to me, he is somewhat in year 3. But next year is a do or die year. Have to be in NCAA or make a very strong run in NIT. Without an 8-1 run from February 8-March 9 in 2014, Nebraska is likely looking at a losing season. They were 11-10 overall at the start of it and their offense was still crap most of the games. Like my earlier post said, 1 good month in 5 years. That transition hasn't truly happened. If Morrow doesn't get hurt this year I think this team has at least 2 more wins. Maybe more with added momentum and confidence. But it happened. Just like the only NCAA appearance in 18 years happened. I'm not trying to be a Miles apologist. I think the basketball program needs higher expectations from the AD and fans. I just think the timing of everything (and NCAA appearance) probably calls for 1 more year for Miles to prove it. I mean ... that's possible. And it's what many have tried to claim for the last month. But we've had him for the last two games. And they .... haven't gone well. So it's nice to speculate but I think that's kind of trying to find whatever excuse you can. When we played Dayton earlier in the year, we were totally healthy and they were missing three guys. They still won.

  4. I think that's where people are really on the fence about keeping him for another year. He brought in the talent and some players do seem to be getting better. However, as a team we seem to be regressing. Most people seem to recognize our lack of an offense as this teams biggest problem. It seems our assistant coaches all have pretty solid coaching backgrounds but tbh, I don't know enough about their respective roles on the team and how well each recruits and yada, yada, yada. My question is, is righting this ship just a matter of hiring the right offensive minded assistant coach and if so, who should be replaced? It makes me think this might be a big part of the solution - I mean just look how much better we looked offensively when we still had Craig Smith. That's what most people have been hoping since Smith left. Problem is, how many assistants has Miles hired and it still hasn't gotten any better?
  5. If Fred Hoiberg gets canned by the Bulls, the answer is yes. If the AD is willing to spend money on a coach that knows how to win in a big boy division, the answer is yes. If neither of the above options are in the realm of possibility, the answer is no. That's the biggest short-fall of that plan: forcing Eichorst to make another hire. He hasn't shown himself to be that great at that process. If Hoiberg would fall in our lap that would be great. I don't know if the timing would let that happen. I wish I would have posted an article from a couple weeks ago. Seems like it was Shatel but I can't remember for sure. He pointed out that Eichorst has been shaky at best in his hiring process. And he also pointed out that the process the Huskers have used to hire the last 3 or 4 men's basketball coaches - try to find the up-and-coming small college coach - hasn't worked out very well. He suggested it was time to try a new approach. Namely, throw money at a bigger name, as you suggested.
  6. Maybe I'm not remembering this correctly but it seems to me that early in the season - when Watson was playing really well - HE was the point guard. He brought the ball up and got the offense started. Apparently somewhere along the line we made Tai the PG. Even when Watson is in the game he'll pass it to Webster to bring it up the floor and get the offense started. That seems odd to me. You're taking probably your second-best player and moving him out of the role that he is best at. Not sure what that's about.
  7. Interesting thing to consider: If the problem really is Miles, would it be better to cut him loose and try to let someone else take advantage of the talent we have? As opposed to keeping him around and just hoping things get better.

  9. Defensive Special Teamer (Gunner): Insane - Have you ever seen these idiots play football? They run as fast as they possibly can down the field in order to run into an oncoming wedge/defender head on! But, busting up a wedge to allow another player to make the tackle on the returner is very important. This poster probably has some weird and wild ideas, but still get the job done. Eric Martin is just the most recent example of this position, but Brandon Rigoni may be the best. Speedy - Once the ball is in the air, the defensive special teamers need to get to the ball as fast as possible to either make the tackle or down a punt close to the opposing goal-line. There's nothing that frustrates a coach more than giving the other team 20 free yards! We need someone who is a speed poster and has the body control and ability to down the ball inside the 10! Young - Coaches love to use true freshmen on special teams. Normally they don't want their skill players getting hurt on a kick/punt coverage or returning. I think this position should be filled by a "rookie" of HuskerBoard - maybe someone who has only been here for 3 months or less...longer if we can't think of anyone. Please nominate the person you feel best exemplifies these traits on HuskerBoard. Not Eligible: Enhance89, GSG5545, El Diaco, 1995 Redux, Moiraine, MattyIce, Hedley Lamarr, BigRedBuster, teachercd, The Dude, QMany, In the Deed the Glory, Guy Chamberlin, Decked, TAKODA, The Maudfather, NM11046, dudeguyy, Landlord of Memorial Stadium, Red Five, Warrior10, lo country, Atbone95, ZRod, B.B. 10. Long Snapper: Versatile - You don't realize how much he is actually on the field. He's on the field when your team is doing well - scoring touchdowns or attempting field goals - and when they aren't doing as well - punting. Some of his snaps are long and some are short but always accurate. Has to be someone that contributes in a lot of ways. Unsung Hero - When he's doing a great job, you sometimes don't even realize he's there. A guy who contributes effectively and often but might not always get the recognition he deserves. Upwardly mobile - Might not get a lot of pub now but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a future. Every NFL team need a long snapper. Might cash in on a nice career by finding a niche and excelling at the next level. Please nominate the person you feel best exemplifies these traits on HuskerBoard. 11. Punt Returner: Fair Catch ability - If the PR knows he's going to get drilled if he tries a runback, he needs to wave the arm, concentrate on the ball, and make the fair catch. This poster should always think about the best way to approach a question and to give the best answer as to not bring on extra attack from others (and a spear tackle from a gunner)! Makes the first guy miss - The most important move for the PR is making that quick sidestep to the left or right to get the first man in to commit to a poor tackle (like Niles Paul's return against Colorado this year). Once this is accomplished, the PR can follow his blocks and use his cutting ability to score the TD. To me, this guy is really a sneaky member! He'll give you enough of a comment to reel you into arguing with him, and then, BAM! You've just missed the point completely, and the poster looks like a fantasy genius with his reply to your opposing viewpoint! Shifty - Can change directions on a dime, makes people miss. Look no further than Johnny Rodgers' electrifying return in the Game of the Century for the ideal of this trait. Rodgers dipped, dived and dashed his way through the heart of the Sooner coverage team en route to maybe the most important TD in Nebraska history. Lightning-quick speed and reaction time, young, smart, able to make an opening for himself where one doesn't exist. Please nominate the person you feel best exemplifies these traits on HuskerBoard. Not Eligible: Enhance89, GSG5545, El Diaco, 1995 Redux, Moiraine, MattyIce, Hedley Lamarr, BigRedBuster, teachercd, The Dude, QMany, In the Deed the Glory, Guy Chamberlin, Decked, TAKODA, The Maudfather, NM11046, dudeguyy, Landlord of Memorial Stadium, Red Five, Warrior10, lo country, Atbone95, ZRod, B.B. 12. Kick Returner: RB wanna-be - When no opening is created, a Kick Returner normally tries to plow through the opposing special team members head on to try to gain some extra yards. Therefore, the ideal HuskerBoard KR has Running Back capabilities. You might want to consult the description of RB (not afraid to take hits, consistent, competitive, reliable) in order to best make a nomination/vote. High top speed – Josh Davis was the prototypical KR. He could run straight from his own goal line and reach a very high speed by the time he got to the 20. By this time, the defense has hit the wedge and he could either find the seam to take it to the house or blast through the best hole he could find to get some yardage. A poster who really gets on a roll with their posts and can find that bit of extra info that someone opened up for him would be a great KR. Dangerous - He may not be on the field a lot, but when he is, look out! A threat to take it all the way Please nominate the person you feel best exemplifies these traits on HuskerBoard.
