  2. Now that I am finishing up following my second full season of the EPL, this World Cup will be fun for me to watch since I am a lot more familiar with the internationals playing. With the lack of talent the US has I would hope we get at least 3 points from Ghana and anything more then that is a bonus for me. Gotta go with Brazil to win. Belgium is my darkhorse
  3. They have a lot of good stuff on YouTube as well.
  4. Some maps of who owns what. http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/fedlands.html Nevada Compared to Nebraska.
  5. Since I follow Everton there has been a lot of discussion on their boards about this because we have one of their future stars, Deulofeu on loan this year and were hoping to get him for one more. Some of the chat is Barca will appeal the ruling thus being allowed to have the summer transfer window during the appeal, getting the guys in they need, then if they lose the appeal at least they got in what they need for the year and are better prepared for the full season. Who knows. What I do know is I hope we get Deulofeu for another year. We need him if we are playing Europa next season or possibly even CL.
  6. No surprise really and it won't change anytime soon either. If you compare us with neighboring states we as a state lack income from natural resources that help reduce the tax burden. Our closest comparison to what we lack would be Iowa and as you can see from the chart they are only a few spots better then us. If you don't have coal, oil or natural gas then your "natural resource" is the people who live there.
  7. Concerning the discussion pre-Katrina threadjack, I agree with the sentiment that there wasn't anything that could have been done to prevent the flooding. From what I have read, every reservoir could have been empty and the Mo still would have flooded. The problem is, they weren't and this is why there is a lawsuit. This is nothing more then a power struggle over who gets a say on the future water release, Ag interests, property interests, habitat and recreation interests. It's not about what happened, it's about who gets protected later.
  8. You are correct, zero righties may be too many.
  9. why would they lose them outright? it seems those customers would just use postal banking to fill the gaps in the service that their usual banks do not provide for them. from my understanding, postal banking would not replace their regular banks, just provide them the services that they would otherwise have to seek predatory banks for. short term loans and the like. Why would they stay? There would be no reason to stay with private banks when they can get lower rates and fees from a government run system that private banks could not be competitive with.
  10. what happens when banks do bad business? They go out of business, well that is unless it looks bad politically then they are deemed "too big to fail" and get bailed out with taxpayer money.
  11. I find it funny (we'll just call it funny...) a person who, in this very thread, posted a statistic and didn't back it up with links when asked to, is requesting links to be posted in order to respond. Imagine I'm posting a Picard facepalm here. So to that point, look it up yourself, you've got the internets. AGI (you might want to include that term in your search) has shown right around 50%, or a bit more, of women choosing to get an abortion were using birth control. So that completely falsifies the implied meaning behind "95% of abortions are done as birth control." Because as I've already said, the intention and meaning behind that phrase is that a future abortion is being used as "birth control," so women are not being careful about avoiding pregnancy. 50%? Works for me. With your gracious help Lefties thinks bad -2012 gun murders~10,000 -US deaths in total Iraq and Afghanistan~5000+2500=7500 -2012 US executions-43 Righties thinks bad Abortions in US in 2012~600,000 Number of righties concerned about being called a hypocrite by even bigger hypocrite lefties~0 Thanks EbylHusker
  12. i always wonder why banks are not nationalized. the gov't sets the interest rates, insures individual bankers, and has all the liability when banks fail. it seems like a natural institution to nationalize. Even though I threw out the socialism card I sure hope you aren't using credit unions as good example for nationalizing banks. Credit unions are still private businesses run locally and not buy government bureaucrats. If a credit union does bad business, people pull their money and it goes under (see the 80's). If a Nationalized bank does bad business it turns into another USPS.
  13. that is not even remotely close to what i posted. what i said is that there is a gap in their service that the fill with predatory banks (i.e. payday advances, dollar loan centers, etc.). it would be nice if they had other options than predatory banks to fill the gaps in their banking. But in order fill those gaps you are at the same time taking away 24 million customers away from regular banks resulting in lost business and lost jobs at those banks. There isn't an industry on the planet that could lose 24 million customers and not cut jobs.
  14. It is a group of ADs and conference commissioners. Interestingly Creighton's AD is on the committee. Heres the rest: Joe Alleva, director of athletics, Louisiana State University; Scott Barnes, director of athletics, Utah State University; Doug Fullerton, commissioner, Big Sky Conference; Mark Hollis, director of athletics, Michigan State University; Judy MacLeod, executive associate commissioner, Conference USA; Ron Wellman, director of athletics, Wake Forest University; Jamie Zaninovich, commissioner, West Coast Conference. What it would do is kill any chance of NU-CU meeting in the first round assuming the seedings matched up. ZERO CHANCE. The moon has better chance a falling out of the sky and landing in Holmes lake. First all CU will be 2 or 3 seed, neb will not be a 14/15 seed more like 11 seed. Second they won't have them playing in the first round, the committee will save that for a 2nd or 3rd matchup. That's why I said "assuming". Your last statement was what I was getting at.

  16. That post game locker room speech was from someone who wasn't satisfied with what they have accomplished, it was from someone who wants to do some serious damage the rest of the way. Love it.
  17. SIT DOWN NORM!!!! ah those were the days. Glad to see those days coming back.
  18. did you read it? what private sector jobs are being threatened? maybe those of predatory banking? how many middles class wages are they paying? and i guess we should not even consider the net effect of those banks. but those would still have a place. really, what private sector jobs are threatened by this? seems like postal banking would address those that have no access to banking or fall in the gap of not having access to a full fledged bank, but have good enough credit and means that they should not suffer the exorbitant interest rates of alternative banks. but i guess you saw that this article was posted on salon, so that was enough for you. "Another 24 million are “underbanked,” meaning they have a bank account but still use alternative services like check cashing stores, pawnbrokers or payday lenders." It's pretty obvious who didn't read the article. "Won't someone stick up for the poor predatory lenders and payday advance services!" If postal banking can offer the same service to people who need it or have never had the resources to learn to make the correct financial decisions (and this is huge, many people with money problems just don't know how to manage money at all) and offer those services at a very discounted rate, then I'm all for it. It's not like private sector bank jobs are somehow more sacred than a government postal worker job. The difference is that the profits from banks all go to the 1%, not the middle class. And payday advance-type services cannot be good for the economy, sucking additional money out of a poverty-sticken lower class who doesn't know better. Thus, "predatory lending." A postal banking system would have no profits and, from the crazy salary that postal workers make, what would have been a profit for a predatory lender or for a 1% banking magnate is now redistributed to a middle class worker, while at the same time aiding a low-class worker who now has access to banking and much cheaper payday-advance type services. So yeah, I'd be totally fine with that. Better yet, stress, at all levels of education from kindergarten through college, the right ways to manage money and the importance of having your finances under control and everyone would be better off. I couldn't agree more!!!! I would add it needs to start at home as well. I was fortunate enough to have parents who were great examples to me as well. Got to ask you how familiar you are with credit unions? You mention that all the bank profits go to the 1%. Credit unions don't have a 1%. They have managers and staff and after expenses are paid for, profits go back to the customers via lower rates and fees. I bring it up because while we still have accounts at a bank we recently joined a credit union and have been very happy with them. In fact we moved our auto loan over and it will save us about $1000 over the life of the loan. If you don't like the 1%ers making loads of money off of you, I would suggest looking into a credit union. Yes, yes, I know, it almost sounds like socialism.

"Another 24 million are “underbanked,” meaning they have a bank account but still use alternative services like check cashing stores, pawnbrokers or payday lenders." It's pretty obvious who didn't read the article. i think i did address the 24 million underbanked. but i am unsure how certain i am of the private sector job loss you are concerned with. but i guess we better protect the predatory banks to save jobs, even though there is a large population that only utilize those banks because they have no other options. how many jobs do those banks provide? would many be lost? like i said, they would still have a place. what is the net effect on the economy of jobs lost vs. preventing unnecessary bankruptcy? seems like a net gain without losing much, if anything. is preventing unnecessary bankruptcy really worth threatening the bottom line of predatory banks? i guess not, for some. So every bank is predatory according to what you just posted. From the mega NYC based bank to the small town family owned bank. Those 24 million are still customers of banks and you don't think there would be any effect if 24 million customers were gone from that industry. Interesting. Changing the font size still doesn't change that fact.

  21. I already forgot two previous HC's names without internet search (touch of Alzheimer's disease) but Danny Nee name stuck. Believe it or not, Danny is still alive and kicking........currently, head men's basketball coach at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, NCAA division III. ADDEM: I finally looked up NU Coaching Ledger. Only three recognized names, Tim Miles (duh), Danny and Moe Iba (barely). That was a good place for him to end up since he swore like a sailor.
  22. tschu first said "Things I agree with the Tea Party on: cutting postal worker wages Things I disagree with the Tea Party on: every single other thing." followed by "I'm sure there are a few things that I agree with the Tea Party on." We better stop now or you may be a full fledged Tea Party member by the end of the month. I probably would have had more respect for your original post if it actually had anything to do with the any of the 10 topics discussed in the article. Instead you are the one who sidetracked it into a they get paid too much, why did I go to college, life isn't fair, I want mine, bla bla bla discussion. There is nothing mentioned in there about reducing wages or benefits. So don't lecture me about sidetracking the discussion! I better add an just so you don't think I am mad at you. At least I didn't bring up abortion. Since neither one of us has actually addressed the original article, I'll go first. The first thought I had after reading it was "What happens to those private sector jobs if all of this was enacted?" Those evil banks, they steal all their customers money through interest and fines but at the same time they are paying a lot of middle class wages. So save the postal workers jobs at the cost of private sector jobs? Actually yea, I could see anyone who reads Salon agreeing with that. Have a great rest of your weekend tschu.
  23. Actually no, anyone who responds to the "pro-abortion" wording is the one who is totally ate up. I was just waiting to see who would reply. Works every time, thanks.
  24. I didn't call you an idiot, that's against board rules. If you took it to mean that, well, that's your problem. I don't give two sh#ts about how you feel regarding abortion. I'm merely pointing out your twisting of the statistics to fit an agenda, which I find reprehensible and counterproductive in any topic. Now, whether the twisting was done intentionally or unintentionally (as in, just parroting what you hear) is another question. Any time you want to actually prove how I twisted statistics, I'll be more then ready to respond.
