  1. That's why Obama was elected. To get us out of Iraq and put that money towards America. Oh wait, never mind, more of the same.
  2. Every time I see that pic of Cassidy, I keep imagining his head in one of the squares of the Brady Bunch intro. Yea, I'm old.
  3. If true, it makes me think they already have the next coach picked out.
  4. Hannity, Maddow, whoever it is,whatever side they are for, I don't have a problem with anyone going after them calling them out on stuff. But what gets me are those who tirelessly and blindly defend these people as some kind of saints of the truth. That tells me that they are probably as full of it as the people they are defending.
  5. If the minimum wage law is lowered there will be even more money coming out of the taxpayers pockets. $15,000 isn't much of an annual salary. Lower the minimum wage and that goes down further. Basically a single person will have to have more than 1 job to make ends meet. Therefore, it would be interesting to see how many net jobs lowering minimum wage laws would create . . . if you create an extra job but a low level employee has to work 2 jobs to make ends meet then there is no benefit to unemployment numbers. The minimum wage laws are not the problem. I am not sure minimum wage jobs are meant for someone to live off of but rather a stepping stone to a better job. You get a low paying job aquire skills and then move up the ladder as it were. If you expect a person to live off minimum wage you will not be very happy. But many businesses want to move to a more minimum wage worker and management and nothing in between. And because now your workers are making next to nothing, the levels of management pay are lower, unless you are in a corporate office, then you get more money pretty much regardless of how the company does. I'm so far beyond sick of this 'best profit' BS. There is such a difference between making a good fair profit, and being a greedy SOB. And things are clearly focused on the greedy SOB side of things now. If its borderline legal, and can make a few people more money, then they do it. Regardless of if its the right, or ethical thing to do. Businesses cut benefits, cut perks, less vacation, less sick days, cut pay, do away with raises, require more hours, and worse hours, all in the name of making more money for the greedy SOB at the top. No one hires 'willy nilly' The ONLY reason for an argument against $7.25 an hour is greedy leadership. Hate to break it to you, but businesses don't run without the ground floor employes, they deserve to be paid fairly for what they do for an operation. Anyone who can honestly say that $58(before taxes) for 8 hours of work is out of line needs to take a very long, hard look in the mirror. What things are really looking like is the .1% would like to go back to the aristocracy and serfs set up. What exactly are these career occupations that pay minimum wage? If they only pay minimum wage I wouldn't consider it anything other then a stepping stone job. You can argue that businesses will cut everything only on the employees side of benefits to keep their profits but that can be a double edged sword as well. By doing that, you may drive your most talented and productive workers to other businesses who offer more. Those who do stay may feel disgruntled and production could decrease causing more profit loss then it what would have originally taken place by taking their benefits. A good business owner knows it's a balancing act of maintaining good profits and keeping employees happy and productive for the business.
  6. I think I made my contribution to the story quite well and that is this thing is getting completely blown out of proportion in the grand scheme of things. A cop pepper sprays some protesters? I'm supposed to be up in arms about that? Seriously? The cop was wrong. He should be punished. If he is not, then whoever is his boss should be but who really cares? Even with the more current headlines of protesters getting the boot from their little camps, who cares? The sad thing is the real 99% doesn't even know what these people are protesting about anymore because all they hear is their sob stories about not being able to have tents in the park or being told to leave at night and come back in the morning, getting pepper sprayed for not moving. These people have completely made this protest about themselves and not about reform on Wall Street or Washington and that's why the real 99% don't care anymore. I mean come on, what's the biggest occupy Lincoln story? The guy had a fire in his tipi and had to take it down. Way to change the country there dude. You yourself just proved the point even more by saying its about how they are protest and not what they are protesting about. How many people get murdered every day? How many people get raped? How many die from smoking? How many die from alcohol? How many die while texting through a red light? Where are those protests? or are those just things we accept in everyday life now? Why am I supposed to care that some college kids got pepper sprayed in the face? If a cop tells you to move, why don't you move and come back the next day, even if they cop was wrong to tell you to move? Why make it about yourself? Answer, because they want to make about themselves. I find it very ironic how some people get so enthralled with something like some protesters being treated bad but people are dying, not injured, dying every day around them from things that could be prevented and they don't even blink. I am very sincere about this when I say that after reading how passionate and upset people seem to get over watching some protesters get treated like this all I can can say is I wish I lived that sheltered of a life.
  7. I believe hockey will eventually become a varsity sport at Nebraska, but I think it's going to be some time before that happens. First, it's not going to happen with TO as the AD. I think behind the scenes there was something to the UNO cutting football with the promise that Nebraska wouldn't start hockey, but I don't think that meant Nebraska would always be without it. Get all UNO sports in Division I and give them some time to establish all the sports and make the entire department able to support itself as much as possible. Once that happens, then it would be a lot more likely to see Nebraska establish their own. Even though they having been playing for quite a while, the last thing UNO would want to see right now is Nebraska starting Hockey. In another 5-10 years? Probably not as big of a deal. Getting Big 10 hockey established is another big step for Nebraska. They will have 6 teams in the league but what I think we need to watch for is any other schools like Iowa or Purdue starting teams or maybe when ND gets a brain and joins the BIG in all sports, then I could see Nebraska making the move. After football and basketball, I would think hockey could easily be the third most watched sport on the Big Ten Network and would add a lot of value to it. The groundwork is definitely being laid with the new arena cable of hosting hockey and the other rinks being built as practice facilities but I think it will be the next AD that will actually do it, not Tom.
  8. I hear Dan Hawkins is available. I can already hear it..."The worst day as a Bruin fan is still better the the best day as a Trojan fan!". Seriously, if Mike Leach doesn't get either the Kansas job or one of these PAC-12 openings, I will be surprised.

    Nice job PAC-12

How is this the Pac-12's fault? USC can't play in postseason games as a result of their NCAA probation. It's their fault that the of the rest of the teams in the south division suck. You would think a conference with the quality of teams that the PAC-12 has, the second option in a division would have 8 or 9 wins (see SEC or BIG). This is the worst case scenario that TO was always worried about when the Big 12 started playing championship games. If the good team, Oregon or Stanford wins there is nothing positive to gain from beating a 6-6 team(if that happens). On the other hand if the 6-6 team pulls the upset, you end up having a 7-6 team going to a BCS game. Wati til USC is off probation and start racking up South Division titles. They will be OU of the Pac 12 always winning it. Oregon will probably be the only consistent team in the North and once Luck is gone from Stanford they will fall back to mediocrity. I would agree with that, I think once they get off probation they could be as good as they were with Carroll, well that is if Kiffin doesn't do something like that himself. Going to be a lot of program turnover in the south division with UCLA, Arizona and ASU all firing coaches. If CU doesn't turn it around next season, I am guessing they will be looking for a new coach as well.
  10. What I am trying to figure out is what is Russia's motive to get involved with Syria other then selling some arms? To get a foothold in the Mediterranean or the Middle East? Oil? I didn't think they were that significant of an exporter. Doing a favor for Iran? The US always gets involved with stuff for "democracy" or "human rights" but we know most of the reason is economic. I just can't figure why Russia wants to be in the middle of this.
  11. I've always hated zombie shows but actually like this one a lot. I think it has to do the survivalist aspect of the show, that always gets me watching. I agree the first season was better but I still watch. AMC has put on some good shows lately. I do like the new Hell on Wheels show as well.
  12. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7286429/memphis-tigers-fire-coach-larry-porter-2-10-season Memphis coach just got canned after two years. If it can happen there, I'd guess it could happen at Kansas.
  13. If Nebraska would have joined the in the late 90's I don't think we would have even noticed the transition but lets face it, the Big 12 turned us into a less physical team while trying to keep up with the track meet that the it has become. It will be interesting to watch recruiting the next couple of years and to see how much bigger we get. As much as we all love Lavonte, we will probably never go after a LB that small again. TE's and backs will probably get bigger as well. Team depth will be more important as well and getting that depth on the field, something I think we needed more of this year. Honestly, I have no problem with 20-7 football. To me that is what football is all about, time of possession and controlling the game. I'd take that any day over 66-42 games. If I want that, I will watch the NBA.
  14. The thing with Mike Stoops is that he is young enough that if he would come here, get us back to the D we had in a year or two, would he be satisfied staying here or move on to something bigger and better? Someone like Ron Zook, you would think he could finish a career being a coordinator. We never knew how good we had it with guys like coach McBride who was more then happy with the position and spent all those years perfecting his craft instead of bolting for some crappy head coaching position. I miss those days.
  15. Did 10 out of 12 teams going bowling ever happen when we were in the Big 12? If Tech could upset Baylor they could get 9 out of 10 this year, otherwise 8 out of 10. Really the key to this happening is having two very sucky teams in each division that lose almost every game so the rest of the bottom dwellers can squeak their way in. It worked well this year for sure. It's impressive that 10 teams made it but four of those teams were 6-6. If anything impressed me with the BIG this year was even though we didn't have a national title contender we finished the regular season with three 10 win teams and two 9 win teams.
  16. I think that is the best thing Turner has going for him for getting another year, it's Kansas. Kind of like Nebraska and basketball.
  17. Get Ekeler back from Indiana. Nobody is going to achieve success at that place. He can save his career by coming back.
  18. KU just finished an 0-10 run after starting the year 2-0. Turner is definitely on the hot seat but he may get one more year to try to turn things around. Assuming Turner gets the boot do we want him back? Is there a spot for him? I wonder if he even wants to come back. Like a lot of coaches, maybe take a year off and think about it. Personally, I'd love to see him back in some form, if not on the coaching staff them maybe an administrative assistant or something higher up in the athletic department.

    Nice job PAC-12

Mizzou would have gone instead of us in that case, they were tied with us at 6-2 in the north.

    Nice job PAC-12

Well, Colorado did their part by beating Utah. UCLA is now the the PAC-12 south champ no matter what the outcome of the USC game is. If Southern Cal wins the south champ will be 6-6. The funny thing is because they now play in the championship game, they may lose bowl eligibility because losing that game could put them at 6-7, lol. UCLA would then need to get a waiver from the NCAA to play in a bowl at 6-7. http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/ucla/post/_/id/8941/pac-12-south-champs-not-ensured-a-bowl
  21. There are a lot of questions I have about Syria when it comes to the US getting involved in an armed conflict that I don't have the answers. Does the US want to get into another tussle with Russia right now with a country that is supplied with Russian arms? Does Syria have an organized and armed opposition similar to Libya that is big enough and could do all the dirty work on the ground if the US supplied the air support? Does Obama want to start another conflict this close to an election where the conflict itself would probably not be supported by voters? Do other major western powers such as the UK and France support the opposition in Syria as much as they did in Libya? At least so far it doesn't seem that you hear as much about it right now like you did with Libya, other then the condemnation of violence. If Russia wants to be the leader in the Syrian conflict and keep other nations out of it, maybe the US should let Russia. Then when more violence and deaths occur, start blaming Russia for not doing more. It will be interesting to watch what happens next.
  22. It may come down some, but I doubt in the long run. With climate change, many places in the world will become less productive. Nebraska sits squarely on Ogallala aquifer, which make Nebraska land even more valuable in the long run when there is uncertainty in changing weather patterns. So climate change will make many places in the world less productive but not Nebraska? . . . are you being deliberately obtuse or did you really miss what he was saying? I want to know what places will be less productive and what places won't. If he knows this much that certain places will be less productive, then I figured he would know what the future is for Nebraska. If climate change is going to change productive areas of the world, then surely it's not going to simply leave Nebraska alone or do we live in some kind of climate change anomaly where it wouldn't change our output? The Ogallala Aquifer wouldn't do us much good for agriculture if climate change dries it up? But if you want to, you can explain what he is saying for me, thanks.
  23. I'd give it to those guys on both sides of the trenches. They set the mood early and never let up. When you win the time of possession 36-22, the guys on the lines are doing something right. Plus we can't give it to Rex and David every week. OK, maybe we can.
  24. You know, I see vids like that and it would almost be worth going to those just to video stuff, almost.
