  1. Before I comment, I will first say that I have never, and will never talk to a recruit or try to recruit anyone for any school. That being said, this is total B.S. What is the last name of the president of the NCAA? Mao or Stalin? I will donate $100 (if five others will also donate), to give the president of the NCAA a one-way ticket to North Korea, where he/she can happily live out the rest of his/her life monetoring what everyone in the country says, and who they can talk to. He can happily fine and arrest people if they say anything wrong to anyone. Come on, this is America, last time I checked, according to our constitution, we had a thing called free speech in this country. So let me get this correct, I can burn an American flag, but I cannot talk to a 18 year old if he plays high school football? I had better stop before I say something stupid and get myself into trouble.
  2. Clyde would be a very nice pickup. Ever since Osborne left, Nebraska can never have too many O-lineman.
  3. Nice! Prototype Nebraska receiver 6'4 and 4.4 speed
  4. "Strike first, strike hard, show no mercy" "Remember when the Germans bombed pearl harbor?"...... from animal house "There is no such thing as a moral victory" "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen"
  5. Baker would be a nice one to pull out of Florida.
  6. A few years ago the Notre Dame QB, (I think his name was Ron Paulus), anyway I got sooo sick of ESPN debating whether he would win 2 or 3 Heismans while playing in college, and how ND would win at least 2 national championship while he was at ND, and how he was projected to be better than Marino in the pro's while this kid was a H.S. senior. Funny how Corso and company seem to have very selective memories.
  7. Looks like Caly is recruiting the best available talent this year. That may be why recruiting is a little slow this year, but the results are awesome. This strategy works for me! Welcome aboard
  8. Since it is the off-season, here is a topic I have been pondering What are everyone's thoughts on paying players to come play football and basketball for college programs? Between ticket sales, TV contracts, and merchandising, Tommie Frazier or Eric Crouch both brought in over $1 million in revenue to Nebraska; by the latest estimates, Reggie Bush was worth well over $5 million to USC. Because recruits are bringing in Big $$ to college programs, what about paying recruits a one time payment to come play football or basketball for the college? To make it fair, (since there are 25 football recruits each year), set a bonus cap at $25 million for football and $25 million for basketball, per college -- the amount doesn't matter, you may lower it if you think this number is too high. Anyway if Nebraska or Texas or FSU really wants a player, they could offer the player up to $5 or $10 million to come play for the program, that means another player may only be offered $100,000 or so to come play to keep under the $25 million cap. This signing bonus would be payed out over the four years the athlete plays at the college. If he leaves early or never plays, the athlete loses that part of a signing bonus. For example if a player signs to go to Nebraska for $1 million. If he only plays 2 years before going pro, he only receives $500,000. If he starts doing drugs, or slacks off in his practices, or gets into trouble with the law, or quits and goes home, and never plays a single down for Nebraska, he receives $0. If a player is injured and his career is ended prematurely, to be fair, he would receive his entire contract. What are your thoughts? I believe this would be a beneficial move for three reasons: 1) Each college would be able to get the recruits they want the most. 2) Athletes would be compensated for the money they bring into the progam, rather than going to inflate an athletic director's salary even more. 3) Athletes would have a much better incentive to work hard and not get into trouble off the field, and the competition for playing time would increase, resulting in better athletes and better football.
  9. Actually the fact that the difference is 76K is not crazy, it is logical. Because Nebraska is a non-profit institution, they must spend all of their revenues otherwise they may lose their non-profit status and then have to pay taxes on all of their revenues. As football and basketball revenues go up, so do coaches salaries because they need to spend the money to remain not-for-profit. (I wish every company had this problem).
  10. But four years is a long time in athletics. Four years of working out, playing full speed ball and four years of studying to make the grade. Reality is some prospects keep growing and developing over four years, why others never do develop for a plethera of reasons. Reality is four years is eternity in the athletic world. In many ways this is as difficult as trying to figure out which of the 5,000 freshmen enrolling at Nebraska this fall will finish college at NU with the most credentials and best job opportunities based on high school GPA's and ACT scores.
  11. Up in Brookings, South Dakota, Daktronics had the bid to put in the Nebraska football screen, until around February when they were undercut by a Japanese firm, Mitsubsi or Sanyo or Sony or someone like that. If Daktronics had got the bid, they can have the screen installed within 60 days after an accepted, so it would have been competed by late May. Since a Japanese firm is putting it in, the pieces are all coming from Tokyo, so who knows how long they will take to get to Lincoln. Almost every other Pro and college football scoreboard in the United States over the past 6 years has been installed by Daktronics. But since this will be the largest college scoreboard in the U.S. the Japanese firm wanted the bid (along with the New York Yankees scoreboard) for name recognition purposes. They bid lower than the cost to make the scoreboard (by several million dollars) because they will make it up the difference on other projects these bragging rights create worldwide. So, although Nebraska is getting a great deal costwise on the scoreboard, I still would have liked to see the money go to South Dakota'a economy rather than Japan's economy. But heck, we buy everything else from Asia, so why not our scoreboards too. Anyway, probably more informatin than you wanted. But the scoreboard may take longer to complete than originally planned.
  12. Tough to see this one get away. But I would much rather have Wisconsin pick him up than the Media Darlings of Michigan, ND or Ohio State.
  13. Well if he is a 5'9 corner, good luck to him going against Nebraska's 6'5 receivers.
  14. Bernstine would be a sweet pick-up.
  15. So what is so special about Michigan and Notre Dame? Seems like over the past 10 years every time we get into a recruiting battle with Mich or ND for a QB or a RB we always get the short end of the stick. Whether loosing Arnaz Battle to ND or Anthony Thomas to Michigan, or this year Clausen to ND and possibly Mallet to Mich, it gets frustrating. What really irks me is then when the press says "Yes every year Michigan produces one of the nation's top NFL QB's. Well Hello, its not hard to produce a top QB when the kid is one of the top QB's going into college. Anyway, rant off.
  16. I predict in another 10 years half the coaches in the Big 12 North Conference will be former Nebraska players.
  17. That explains why he was the team's leading tackler. Can you say Barry Bonds Junior? At least this guy doesn't lie about his substance use.
  18. A lot of people are not giving Nebraska a chance against USC. I think the game is winnable. USC has a lot of holes to fill and we are playing them early in the season. Look at Nebraska the last couple of years, they were complete different teams early in the season compared to late in the season. It takes time for teams to "jell". If we played USC late in the season, I think it would be a very tough game, but early in the season the game is winnable. Nebraska spent all of last year jelling, and USC is young and needs the season to jell after their big 3 or 4 or 5 have left for bigger leagues.
  19. I don't know about today. But eight years ago when I went to Nebraska, the wheelchair seats were at the front corners of the north endzone and the south endzone. As you come up the ramp leading to just above the endzone of the field, at the top of the ramp there was an area designated for wheelchairs. I thought they looked like good seats because no students would be standing up directly in front of you.
  20. Anyone have a list of recruits Nebraska is planning to invite to the spring game?
  21. For me the two most important positions at defense for D1 schools are the defensive tackles and the cornerbacks. The defensive tackles are the two anchors against the run. As Nebraska knows all too well, for a run orientated team, all the I-back needs is 4 yards (and a cloud of dust) each play, and the offense is in complete control of the game. The offense can control the time of possession, tempo of the game, and keep the other teams offense off the field. It is that simple, if the I-back gets 4 yards per carry, you win the game, period. If the defensive tackles are getting pushed around on the line of scrimmage, it will be long, painful afternoon as the other team controls the ball, the clock and the game. But if the two DT's control the line of scrimmage, the defensive ends and linebackers can shut down any team's running game. A corner back who can play man-to-man against D1 receivers are invaulable. If a corner cannot cover a receiver, and requires double teaming, if the defense decides to Blitz, the defense is one-man short. Any serious quarterback, when faced with a defense that is one man short, will (with ease) pick apart that defense all day long. An aggresive (Blitzing) defensive co-ordinator, armed with a cornerback who cannot play man-to-man, facing a solid QB and receiving corpe, is beyond painful to watch. By contrast, if the corners can cover the recievers, there is nothing more exilerating than to watch an aggresive defense destroy an offense (i.e. the 95 Huskers). I firmly believe every year the Huskers must recruit two dominating DT's and two dominating CB's if Nebraska wants to be competitive. After the the DT and CB postitions are filled, the other key to a dominating defense is a OLB or Safety with exceptional speed. The Terrell Farley type player. With player with sick size and speed, then no matter which position the coach blitzes from, the TF-type player has the speed to get to and fill the now-empty position from which the blitz came. Or if the QB is in the shotgun, and the coach blitzes the TF-type player, he will get to the QB at approximately the same time the ball does. These type of players create short careers for both opposing offensive coordinators and opposing QB's. Well, since it is the off-season, what are your thoughts as an armchair defensive coordinator?
