  1. Looks like location played into this for both schools. Newell couldn't make it to the Black Magic Showcase and a lot of the analysts are still predicting him to NU. Lamin is from NC, and we're are the closest "best" offer he had. Location, Location, Location I guess. We also picked up another DT from Alabama this week, so we are done at DT recruiting this cycle, which mean you probably already knew, but we are no longer pursuing Newell at all, so he's all NU's. Both Lamin and Newell should have great collegiate careers.
  2. It's good to get out of the box and get y'all's perspective on issues like cheating in college athletics. It goes on everywhere, for just about every sport, but with different levels of severity. Teams like So Cal, PSU and OSU lose games, championships, post season eligibility and this is recently, b/c the cheating was blatant enough. Teams like Auburn do it and get away free and clear, but karma kicks their teeth in the next couple of seasons. Bama is just good at it, there's a process, and they are the best, nobody is close to their level and they will never catch them again. Even Mississippi State cheated, had boosters giving recruits from Memphis money to specifically commit to MSU, and I think MSU is still bowl eligible. Oregon just was busted recently for their payment(s) to handler(s). Then you got hundreds of confusing secondary violations, like texting a recruit on the wrong week, and I think everyone has something like that about every year.
  3. Lamin has shot up our board. Ark was the early leader for him, then he went to UF and they led for a week following his visit. Then he came to USC a few weeks ago and we've been his leaders since then (even though he's made a return visit to Ark.) Even though we are his named leader, the 247 Crystal Ball majority projection and the closest school in the running to his family's home in Fayetteville, NC, I still don't think he's locked up yet, because his parents haven' visited. His mom did go with him to Ark and liked what she saw/heard. If we can get her on campus with him again I think it will go a long ways. That's kinda how we "flipped" Poona Ford back to us from Tenn. We led for Ford early, then he was all about Tenn, but when he and his dad visited us a couple weeks ago he cooled on Tenn. Overall, I think our coaches do a good job of communicating to parents of recruits that we are a place that can help their son and we are going to take care of them. Also, it appears we just missed out on one of our DT/SDE prospects, Wideman, who just committed to FSU this week, so I can imagine we'll be focusing even more energy on Lamin.
  4. Newell is not coming to our Black Magic Showcase anymore (it is this weekend.) He hinted that he had a grandma's birthday party to go to a couple weeks ago, but made it official he's not coming as of today. So it looks like to me USC is not his destination. He'll be a good player, congrats
  5. For once, for once we actually might get a recruit because we are the close to home school. I'm not sure I know how that feels. I see what you mean, a little over 2 hours drive isn't bad. Do any of y'all know if the upcoming SECNetwork will be available to your cable providers out in NE/KS?
  6. I think it's rare when USC and Nebraska go after the same recruits, or really end up as the Top 2 choices for that recruit, however it looks like that's the case for DT/TE Peyton Newell. http://247sports.com/Player/Peyton-Newell-19862 I can see all of the crystal ball predictions have picked NU. Do y'all still feel really good about landing this recruit and how high up is he on NU's board, for his position? Is NU looking at him as a DL or a TE? If 1=low and 10=high, what do you see as the likelihood of Peyton going to NU? I've seen a lot of "pro-USC" comments from him in the past couple months, but I didn't know if that was just media spin. I believe Peyton is coming to our Showcase Camp in late July and he's looking to make a decision by the end of the summer.
  7. Now we're building some bridges! It's all just for fun.
  8. 3 and out, you don't need conditioning. But he does have it, and every word out of your mouth is pure bullsh#t. He's a junior, been busting his ass and playing snaps for 3 years. Take your bullsh#t back to the Columbia asbestos factory. If you goatee nickleback m-f'rs spent half as much time improving your football tradition as you did trolling Georgia fans, you might have a program that you can be proud of. As it stands now, you have nothing to be proud of, just heckling nearby programs on the internet. Never been there, and sure as hell not acting like you have. Go stand on the corner with a bucket and collect donations for Lattimore's bionic knee. Start another rumor on Rivals about how awesome Clowney is going to be at tail back. Throw another kingfish in the frying pan. Wow, I guess the truth stung you a bit. What I said was not fictional, Kwame DOES NOT have the conditioning to play a whole game at NT. He was the 2nd string NT behind Jenkins, played less than a third of the total snaps, and I watched him play. He's going to be great in the 1st quarter, but he will tire, he's got a big frame and isn't used to playing that many snaps. I don't think he's on some miracle conditioning plan the past couple weeks that would change that. UGA is ranked 76th against the rush, and Nebraska is ranked 8th in rushing offense. The NT is one of the most critical components for stopping the run in a 3-4. Playing NT is more than just size, which Kwame has, but it's about agility/conditioning as well and filling gaps/closing the pocket. Besides Murray, Jenkins was the player you could least afford to lose for this game.
  9. Geathers doesn't have the conditioning to play the whole game at nose. The backup, Thornton, is too small to be a traditional NT in a 3-4. UGA can put in 2 DT's and run some 4-3, but those guys were used in less than a quarter of the snaps this year.
  10. pics or GTFO! haha, j/k. Rig, don't act like you don't inject yourself into discussions about other teams on SECrant. I've been posting here since last year, check my joined date. Which one of the pics above did you like best? Don't you have a Michigan fan site to troll? Here's one for you... http://umgoblue.com/...ootball-f3.aspx I've even got a login made up for you: username: gamecock1978 password: pelagic1 Yeah, I've already got GameCockInYourEar over there. Funny enough, CockInYourEar wouldn't fly with their admins.
  11. What did he say that will get them fired up? That Georgia's D is good because it is comparable to the rest of the stout defense's in the B1G?... Ouch, what an insult. He called them a "typical Big1G defense." Statistically, that might be accurate, they'd be 5th in Total Defense in the Big1G. However, if there was any team that responded to "words" well this season, it was UGA. Sheldon Richardson from mizzou called them out and said they play "old man football." Jarvis Jones then proceeded to eat their lunch that game. Then their safety, Shawn Williams, called the whole defense out as, "playing soft," and they had their best defensive game against Florida. This is a team with a ton of talent, that has had motivation problems for part of the season. They just lost their best shot at a MNC in 32 years, they have a bunch of players going pro and it's not even a BCS game, so their projected effort was questionable. The word, "typical" is rarely if ever used as a compliment. So why give these guys any bulletin board material to get them fired up?

  13. Wow, he just shouldn't have said that. If there was any question that the UGA players weren't fired up for this game, that's now gone.
  14. Nebraska losing one player on it's defensive front killed our defense against Wiscy. I don't think the importance of a dominant NT should be underestimated. ^This. UGA runs the 3-4 most of the time, and they've been blessed to have two huge NT's to do it. Now they are down to 1, and he can't go the whole game. They'll switch sum to the 4-3, but then they are going to have to pull Geathers to do that and play 2 DT's without as much playing time. It's worth saying again, the absence of a star NT is devastating to 3-4 defense that already struggled against the run and is going up against a "favor the run" team. Look how UGA did against USC and Kentucky, who have mobile QB's. The starting QB's avg'd over 5 yards a carry and most other rushers avg'd over 4 yards a carry, including Kent's backup QB.
  15. CFB stats showing 37 total tackles with 5 being TFL. 15 solo and 22 assists. Unsure about the draft part, but hard to tell is there is a real "drop off" in production or stats are lower as he is not a starter. I still can't help but think losing a starter has got to impact them negatively to a degree. The sad thing is Geathers is bigger. Would be nice if we had the depth to not have to send a DE inside as a DT. Well apparently they both play so losing one means the 3rd guy has to come in and maybe there's a drop off threre. I believe Geathers played some at end..........so there is a little bit of depth infringement there.......... Geathers played primarily as a backup NT, he may have had a few snaps from an end position, but not many. Geathers and Jenkins rotated, b/c neither had the conditioning to run the defense all 4 quarters.
  16. oops, I started another thread about it before I saw this one. Besides Aaron Murray, this is the next player that they needed the most to win this game. Jarvis Jones would be 3rd. They are razor thin a NT and only have 1 other guy with quality snaps this season. He's really big and conditioning will be an issue. You guys need to RUN THE BALL B/W THE TACKLES, and you will wear them out by the 2nd half. EDIT: merged by rawhide
  17. UGA runs the 3-4 defense. What's the most critical part of a successful 3-4? You're right, the NT. Teams that run the 3-4 well always have a All Conference/America level NT. UGA WILL NOT have one for this game. John Jenkins is academically ineligible for the game. Their backup, Kwame Geathers (6"6', 350 lbs) is good, but he's not use to playing a whole game. His new backup will be Mike Thornton (6"1', 287 lbs) isn't a real NT for a 3-4, as he doesn't have the size/agility ratio needed. He was pretty much locked up to be a 1st Round pick in the draft. This begs the question, who else on UGA's roster has their head somewhere else besides this game? Furthermore, UGA's weakest aspect on their team is run defense, they just lost the person most critical to stopping that. I think this absence could result in you guys getting an additional 80 yards rushing, which now IMO, tips the game in your favor. The spread is still UGA giving 10-10.5, so it's time to take that bet. I predict in the 2nd half that you guys are going to start running b/w the tackles and grinding them for 4-6 yards a carry consistently. My advice would be to be a run favored team in this matchup and you'll wear their DL out. http://uga.rivals.com/barrier_noentry.asp?ReturnTo=&sid=&script=content.asp&cid=1452921&fid=&tid=&mid=&rid=
  18. I think that a lot of the UGA players who are potential high draft picks will take it easy. The curfew thing is going to hurt them, seeing as they play at noon on New Year's day. Nebraska is a good running team, UGA is a bad running defense team. If you guys just don't turn it over, you'll probably out grind them.
  19. Mike Bobo looks like Billy Bob Thorton from Sling Blade.
  20. Erin Murray looks like the mom from Southpark. If that's how he trains, it's no wonder he can't win the big games.
  21. That's how Erin Murray says "Merry Chrissstmasss."
  22. Erin Murray looks like spray on tan guy...with purse.
  23. You should have seen that coming. Vegas should have too. Many of us did. Nebraska's division race was extremely tight with Michigan so we didn't clinch the division until the final game of the season with a win over Iowa, thus Nebraska had a week to prepare for that game. Wisconsin meanwhile thanks to Penn State and Ohio State being ineligable knew they were playing in that game and were likely playing Nebraska a month in advance. You give one team a month to prepare and the other team a week to prepare and bad things are almost guaranteed to happen for the team with less time. Honestly I never saw that coming. They lost several games, their players were still mixed up in that fight incident and Ball hadn't really broken out this year. It never crossed my mind that Bret would gameplan a month in advance for that game.
  24. haha, I was waiting on one of you pups to find this thread! Did we get lucky in 2011 too? How about 2012? We were good as an Independent, y'all remember that era, it was the 80's, it was the last time you were relevant as well. Cola is one of the hottest places on the earth, I'll concede that.
