  1. Wasn't quibbling in the least. I pointed out that a 4.39 or lower 40 and vertical jump of 40+ inches is elite status that very few athletes, even after spending 3-5 years in a college strength and conditioning program can achieve. And when someone says athletes like that are easy to find is simply not true. And measurables are not irrelevant. They are bench marks to which scouts can determine if a player can perform at the necessary level. Now measurables aren't perfect and there definitely are exceptions to the rule, but they are not irrelevant.
  2. LOL...you are leaning headlong into crazy if you think you can find "plenty" of kids that run a 4.3 40 and have a 40 inch vertical. Look at the combine numbers and tell me if the players fitting that criteria, after spending 3, 4 or 5 years in college strength and conditioning program, can run 4.3 and jump 40.
  3. THANK YOU! Urban Meyer is a good coach. But he is walking into a perfect situation. Luke Fickell took all the heat while Braxton Miller took his lumps as a true freshman. Now that Miller is a sophomore and poised to take the next step Meyer comes in as a cheap opportunist.
  4. I'd put Michigan's Toussaint higher than 25th. The Wolverines were able to do what they do because they could actually run the ball.
  5. Mike Mayock of the NFL Network projects Jared Crick as a DE in a 3-4.
  6. We run a lot of formations but very few plays.
  7. But to echo the thoughts about Mendoza, it is perplexing how such a great athlete didn't see the field. He must not have known, or been able to figure out, the playbook. Which raises another question, how is it that we seem to get an inordinate amount of "dumb" players?
  8. Unless those defensive backs are just as fast or have the angle.
  9. I love your sig. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is hilarious! Now .
  10. Any links available? Mendoza has a 45.5 vertical? Holy moly, why not have him on the field and just out jump the DB for the ball, especially in the endzone on a fade? Crick's 26 reps on the bench is somewhat respectable. It's double Marcel Jones' output.
  11. Actually it is now 12. They got a rush of commits last week and another today. All are in staters as the norm. Seven of them are ranked in the Rivals Top 100. This is more like the Horns we know. Now once again the question is, will they be able to coach thesse kids up and have these kids started to hit their plateau? They supposedly are looking at 20 kids. That leaves 8 spots and it ain't even summer. Normal Texas recruiting. It must be such a terrible burden for Texas to bear having such a deep and talented pool of kids in state to draw from. I mean seriously, I commend Mack Brown because he has to work so incrdibly hard to get kids interested.
  12. Well considering that Nebraska is actively recruiting kids for the '13 class which is next Feb anyway 2014 isn't quite as far away as it first appears. Now if we were like Texas and USC taking committments from kids in the 7th or 8th grade I could see it being excessive. I have no opinion on the nerd aspect though.
  13. I remember from the scrawl on NFL network that NU had their pro day either yesterday or today. Anyone have any information on how the players participating did?
  14. I certainly doubt Cassidy will be drafted, but I could see him getting at least a free agent look.
  15. Sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm, negativity serves no one, it only serves as conversation fodder to get reactions, It was a flip comment that is better described as hyperbole. And isn't conversation fodder to "get reactions" the primary function of internet message boards to begin with?
  16. If someone "misreads" Bo's statements how exactly is that his fault? When a message/statement can legitimately be interpreted in multiple ways, its the reciever's fault if he/she doesn't grasp the intended meaning? Yes. Because if you're not understanding then you should ask follow-up questions. Let me give you a personal example: While I was in school, almost 20 years ago now, I was doing an internship at a company and while walking down the hallway I met my program chair who was speaking to another person at the company that he knew. He had come to check up on what I was doing and ask my supervisor about my performance since I was at about the halfway point of the internship. I told my program chair that the classes and training in this program were a fantastic prep for what I would be doing in this particular industry and I also commented that I could even take over as the manager because I already knew so many of the real world policies and procedures. I was complementing my program chair and the program. However, the person whom my program chair was speaking to took what I said as an insult to the current manager's competence. I only found this out a day later when I stepped into my program chair's office to discuss some homework. It was then that I found out that the person he was talking to was greatly offended. In other words, he took what I said, and filtered it through his own anger at God only knows what and decided to form an erroneous opinion of me based on his own stupidity and preconceived notions. To the point about Bo, certain people are like the person my program chair was talking to when I encountered them both. They only hear what they want to hear and will try and use any excuse, regardless of how flimsy it is, to take absurd offense and create problems where none exist. Bo isn't perfect but some people just want to take a tiny grain of sand and make it into an entire beach.
  17. I think Chase Rome should be moved to WR and Eric Martin to OC. Those are about the only position changes that haven't been made thus far.
  18. If someone "misreads" Bo's statements how exactly is that his fault?
  19. Hmm....I guess I really need to stop overestimating the intellectual process of putting things in perspective with a lot members on this board and put this everytime I am sarcastic. WOW, dude that was a knock at the guys over at the recruiting forum and myself(if you ever have checked it out you'll see that I am a mainstay over there). And for the Dude in another thread. Twat? Yep!!! The sarcasm came through loud and clear. I responded in kind hence the trail of giggling emoticons.
  20. Some of our fans are just like Jason Peter. If Nebraska isn't winning like they did from 94-97 then the team failed. The 90's run was something that probably no team will ever accomplish. Although Alabama is currently the closest.
  21. I played DT in high school, not RB. And the entire point of my posts was to demonstrate that too often last season our DL was completely ineffective because they couldn't separate. Well that, combined with Bo's 2 gap, slow rush, contain, style of DL play. When I watch teams from the SEC play defense I see DLs that, at the snap, fire off the ball and attack. But NU's DL plays patty cake. It's embarrassing, it's pathetic and it makes our defense look slow.
