  1. lol, such a walking f'n contradiction. On one hand, no sports to protect liability from student athletes getting covid and potentially having severe symptoms... But lets cram 30k 18-22 year olds and make a mini city but potentially expose them severe symptoms, all for the sake of protecting that tuitiion, room and board revenue streams There was a fantastic article I believe in the atlantic a couple months back that detailed our unversities are like the only institution in the world thats been able to not change or improve their product really at all in 100 years yet tuition has soared, in some cases by 40000%..... So many cracks in society that are being exposed right now
  2. Does that then mean the guidelines they did announce publicly were not vetted with the presidents and chancellors prior? Thought the whole reason of going conference only and 10 games was to space out the season, allow for game reschedules if flare ups occurred. None of us know the exact timeframe of how this went down but when you look at different possible explanations, the vast majority of them revolve around the concept of shaky communication and lack of unity. Perhaps what happened is a mix of what you're saying and a mix of just bad leadership. I can see a scenario of schools pres/chancellors saying in mid august this isnt getting better, we need to pause and cant risk liability... If this is truly the case though, I find it hard to believe the same pres/chancellors are completely fine with warren taking the brunt here and being the fall guy. doesnt seem like a good quality in leadership to me
  3. I dunno, why would he do a dumb press hype schedule release and lead an effort to establish guidelines on how to run a season with covid... only to halt everything and not even attempt said plan? If he was truly a messenger of the universities then he probably shoulda put a halt on all of the marketing type events that did nothing but get the hopes up of fans who are sorely in need of something positive and normal in this strange year of 2020. I'm not saying this decision was 100% on warren... but if he truly had no power at all in working with university leaders then at the very least he certainly should have had the power to stop the Big10 from the above PR misses i mentioned above. And honestly, he can already kiss the the NFL commish job and his dream of running huskerboard down the drain. No one is touching this guy to be the face a bigger league when he looks like the most inept out of the current power 5 commishs.
  4. Because you said it yourself, he's nothing more than a messenger with clearly no repercussions from doing a crappy job.. what does he have to fear in your world making millions simply to deliver a message for others?
  5. You mean going on record after Warren dropped a passive aggressive line that Nebraska could leave the big10 if it pursued games elsewhere? You mean going on record after the same leadership literally made a public push with Moos to explore other options? and you mean these same chancellors and presidents who have come out with 5 different interpretations of what the “vote” actually was? Seems like a real bang up job and world class example of sound leadership putting a process in place that all follows!! But hey, I guess that’s what we get when a commissioner is relegated to nothing more than a messenger!
  6. Lol, what silence are you talking about? 1/2 the league was pissed immediately. 1/3 of the school presidents publicly said they didn’t even know there was a vote. Another 1/3 said, “we’ll there was a discussion on pausing but I wouldn’t call it a vote”. of course warren didn’t make this decision in a vacuum solo but the clear lack of a process and buy in from the conference of this is appalling. If you’re saying Warren had literally zero responsibility to pool all of the presidents/school leaders together to have an honest discussion and decide this, as a group, then tell me where I can apply to be the next big10 commish cause some of you are convinced it’s nothing more than a puppet position with zero influence yet gets paid millions where Did that dumb sock poppet that brought us mike Riley ever go to? Let’s get him as commish as some of you seem to convinced that role is nothing more than a fluff job with zero power and clearly zero repercussions from doing a piss poor job
  7. No, huh? well stick with your messenger theory. If that actually held any weight, which it doesn’t, then the league should probably reevaluate how it spends its money. surely they don’t need to hand out millions for just a “messenger”. Could think of a couple high school, maybe college kids we could pay to simply deliver a message if that’s all a power 5 commissioner does these days lolol
  8. I think “messenger” is quite the understatement, no? warren and his direct reports is the lead representative for the conference when it comes to negotiating TV contracts which equals revenue. warren and his team are supposed to be the focal contact point for all universities and athletic teams in the conference. warren is literally the face of the league regarding any kind of PR activities, such as this. and again, I think people are shooting the messenger because of how botched this was... you don’t see the uproar and internal fighting with the Pac 12. The pac12 also didn’t do some dumb press announcement of the season only to walk it back 4 days later. you bring up corporate America... oftentimes a ceo or exec is pushed out due to the company not delivering results or not sticking tot he trajectory. Is one person to blame for that? No- more often than not it’s a mix between poor small decisions that finally add up, lack of execution and stronger external factors that lead to their demise. Regardless they get paid the big bucks for a reason and that’s to be the face of the company to lead them when times are good but take ownership when they’re not. A “messenger” would be us gunning for a lower level employee that didn’t have any power or input on this at all. your messenger in this example is the commissioner of the most popular conference football wise in the country who gets paid millions of dollars to make critical decisions and be the face of the league... not quite following your logic
  9. If we dont have a season in the big10.. what does this mean for recruiting? Do we now just have insanely ample time to recruit hard or is there going to be some kind of restriction given no season? Trying to find a silver lining here at the thought of watching SEC football every weekend while our team is parked on the couch with all of us.... gonna be just swell if we have a double whammy of no games plus rolled back recruiting rules with having no official sport this fall and all
  10. Also, if we can start in october i think that legitimately opens the door for the other conferences to delay the playoffs a few weeks, if needed, to ensure a legit title is crowned. I feel like October gives a chance for the other leagues (SEC, Big 12, ACC) to be ok with big 10 playing out their schedule to ensure a legitimate playoff takes place and not one that is just alabama, clemson and then 4 SEC teams competing against Oklahoma for the final 2 spots. thanksgiving, no shot in hell that scenario exists
  11. Well, seeing how we havent really placed any draft talent in the league consistently since Ameer graduated, this might actually be good for us!
  12. who is saying this is a decision based off the election? To me, this is clearly just a fight to minimize the catastrophic effect of this pandemic and what it will mean for the university and other sports teams by losing out on your bell weather revenue streams, when equal institutions are powering forward. All bout $$$ at the end of the day... Big10 didnt want the risk due to liability.. Liability if guilty= a lot of lost money They also want to protect their #1 rev generating activity as a Power 5 school. Football= Money coming in Money is king baby, cash rules everything around me
  13. lol, this is prolly why theyre floating out thanksgiving , cover them tracks!
  14. I think the only reason Thanksgiving is even being discussed is a 100% "save face" move by warren and the greater league. He's pretty much been boxed into a corner now, specially after his stance of this not being revisited. I can't think of any logical reasons why this is a "good idea" when all it really does it put players at risk and sounds like a scenario where they won't even have a playoff to play for... I really hope there's science behind it but it just reeks of a pride protection stance. Not gonna lie, I'm kind of enjoying the tomato on the face moment for this league right now. Even if the ultimate decision was the right one, they literally chose THE WORST path to get there. After decades proclaiming how "unified" the Big10 is and how its the most stable league in the country they cant seem to get a simple PR announcement straight. Everyone needs a little reality check every now and then and hope this brings down the smugness of this conference a bit
  15. I do! And typically they delve off into loosely connected tangents... specially for this seeing how the reason there night not be football is because of COVID. So, i wish you best of luck in your ambitions. But seems like you're being a bit redundant and also eliminating the potential for a "discussion" board if all you're looking for is news updates without takes from others lol
  16. lol u do realize that technically both of these polls are always unofficial now with the committee, right?
  17. Games are a blast, but pure #s wise nowhere close to a game at nebraska. Much smaller venue. no idea what the official capacity is but significantly smaller than devaney Also worth consider Stanford's national brand is much larger than the school size itself. Wanna say undergrad population is only like 6k and on campus/affordable housing nearby isnt exactly the easiest to come by where the campus is located so student base is spread out a bit relative to other power 5 universities
  18. Football isnt going anywhere in Berkeley after that controversial AF stadium investment, new facilities and tearing down of those historic trees that caught a lot of local attention. Similar to your Stanford breakdown, the only event I see football going away is when most if not all other sports cease to exist as well. If cal were to make that decision, I honestly think it would result in them being removed from the Pac 12 altogether and getting replaced with another institution
  19. 100%... The friday football night game and constantly relegated to 730 pm saturday, maybe 430-5 at best (unless ABC national game) they really get the bad end of the attention spectrum. They're doing their schools a disservice by not better positioning themselves natioanlly I think part of this is due to their gamble on the Pac12 network being successful which hasnt really been the case
  20. This is some selective picks on your part, no? When considering the national stage, the Pac12 actually has a much better resume than the Big10 in football in this century. Outside of bamas run, USC prolly still holds the #2 status for most successful/productive dynastic run on the sport this century, LA itself is considered to be the most productive area of elite football talent concentrated in one specific area that small. You can still take back your comment pac12 football wont exist... or u can keep going down a path of denial up to you
  21. Right, and all of those states have institutions in the PAC12 right?? lolol
  22. I dunno if I would call a fanbase with other interests year round as fickle. Just because a program isnt in its own world under the microscope 365 days a year doesnt mean they dont have a loyal following. Frankly, if I was say a USC fan, I too prolly wouldnt be as big of a college football fan year round when I have the lakers winning titles, dodgers always competing, and many many many many other entertain options that dont exist in most other college towns.
  23. bro just stop... You're in your own head cooking up fake stories if u really think football is nothing more than afterthought or barely hanging on lololol
