  1. I think Newby is that good. You are not the #2 RB in California if you aren't. I am still a little nervous about Taylor and the knee injury. Until he gets to campus and gets with our trainers, and they give him the all clear, I would rather redshirt him
  2. Didn't say you did, it was more a a rhetorical point about how messed up I think things are. I see. I always thought they should do away with pre-season rankings. All rankings should come out after the 4th or 5th game so we can see what teams are really made of.
  3. The simple point that they overglorify the entire SEC as this unstoppable juggernaut. Bottom-feeders or not, our Northwestern beat 2 SEC teams on the field. End of story. SEC is the best. That's not the argument. They are not nearly as far ahead as ESPN and the talking heads want you to think. That is the actual point. ESPN does glorify the SEC and I will take nothing away from Northwestern's wins but neither Mississippi State nor Vanderbilt beat a team in the FBS that finished with a winning record. They were thought of highly enough to almost crack the top ten in the BCS before for their loses and only drop out of the top 25 after three consecutive loses... Never said they were a bad team
  4. So. I hear there is a Spring Game approaching. How's that?
  5. For those interested in which schools made his Top 10: Alabama, Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio St, Oregon, Rutgers, Stanford, Vanderbilt Very interesting Top 10, seems a little inconsistent. I wonder how he picked them? Not academics (that's BC, Rutgers, Stanford, Vanderbilt only), strong running teams (that's Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio St, Stanford only), SEC (that's Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Vanderbilt only), or proximity to home (that's Rutgers and BC only). My bet = blindfold + darts + map. SEC, close to home, Hot destinations today would be my guess
  6. My Els comment just being an opinion? Jared Afalava, Zaire Anderson, Thomas Brown, Michael Rose, Josh Banderas, Marcus Newby and Courteny Love all say hi, and they obviously were a 2nd choice to Nebraska. Els shouldn't be coaching special teams, as I firmly believe he has enough responsibilities with being head recruiter and LB coach. Thanks to every coach doing extra work, our special teams should be much better than last year. What does listing a bunch of LBs that have never played have to do with his coaching ability or recruiting ability? From the recruiting side, he has done what I would say a very good job of handling that responsibility. If a head coach gets credit for winning and blamed for losing, then we need to give credit where credit is due. No, these kids haven't played but if they were signed anywhere else, that teams RC would be given credit. He's done a good job. He isn't a terrible RC. He is very organized and detail oriented. Doesn't make him a good recruiter though. I suppose you're correct. I don't know much about his ability to close. But the last couple of years does show he knows who to go after and which coach to send. That was the direction of my comment, I guess.
  7. There is more reason to why it was said like that. Hedley's always bashing and being negative on EVERY thread he posts in. I will apologize to all the board members for my STFU comment. It just gets very old when someone comes into the threads, sh#t on the positive, and takes it to an attack on Bo. This is nothing new. If our defense can be at least average, and our offense can limit the turnovers, we will be set to a good year. With our talent, that I believe that can take us to the next level, we will have an enjoyable road down the stretch. Especially if recruiting keeps going uphill the way it has been. Bo is figuring things out, and for one not to expect us to be rocky for a while, isn't being true to the situation. Bo is learning, and is still learning. Same with all the assistants under him. Mistakes are going to happen, but the real question is, do we have the talent to bounce back from them? I believe we do. Whether Headley is negative all the time or not is irrelevant, really. I am glad he posts these opinions because it gives us something to discuss. If we all had the same opinion on every topic in this board, it would be the worst place to discuss this stuff. The easiest way to not get into these pissing contests is to not respond if you know it's not going to go anywhere. If you make your point and there is nothing left to say, just leave it and another thread will take it's place. There is no reason to get worked up over this stuff. It's DIVISION 1 FOOTBAL!! It's not that important in the grand scope.

  9. Every coach is in their position to win championships. But in reality, if anyone expected one by now, is completely delusional. You have to build a sound program before you can take that next step. Bo finally has his coaching staff he likes, and that is the first step. Recruiting is the second step, and it starts to flow from there. The inconsistency come from the lack of talent, and immaturity of the players. That mostly steers from converting players (because of the lack of talent/recruiting), and players being young. Bo did all he could in the WI game, and players were in position to make stops. Thats where the lack of talent steps in. Coaches can put you in position, but its up the player to make the play. I don't know about that. A lot of people outside of Husker nation were picking us to win conference titles in '10 and '11. It's hard to call "experts" and people outside the program delusional Husker fans. Maybe the teams just underachieved. It's kind of difficult to understand what you're getting at. In one post you claim Pelini has proven he can put a team together that has the potential to go "a long way", then in another you claim people who expect a conference title (yes, just a conference title, not a national title) are completely delusional. Which is it? How can we claim to have the potential to go a long way if we can't even win a conference championship? You have to crawl before you walk. This is the first time Bo has put together a coaching staff he likes? Interesting theory. I think Wisconsin was more talented than us overall, but not enough to completely beat us down like that. Most of it had to do with the players being ill-prepared. A common trend with Bo Pelini-coached football teams. No matter the talent level, or the experience level, it's been more or less the same result for 5 years. Those excuses are running thin. Funny that you brought this up right after we were just voted most delusional fans by ESPN.
  10. This (at least the Hedley part). There is no need for you to be disrespectful. Don't like my posts, use your ignore feature. There is no need for you to act like a child and troll my posts on a regular basis. Its seriously getting VERY old and unpleasing. You begin a response with STFU as you rant at another board member and you're talking to me about being disrespectful and a child? Please. This
  11. Can't wait to see the Twins and Tigers play in snow pants today. High of 33 at Target Field

  12. How often do trains wreck? Not that damned often. By all means, lets roll some dice on ruining the ground water for a farming state so a few people can make a ton of money. Just happened in Minnesota. With oil as the cargo. I'm not sure how often pipelines leak, but there are likely a lot more train wrecks and derailments than you realize. Many railroad routes run along side rivers, oceans and lakes, fwiw. Most trains don't carry hazardous materials, though. Or at least not high levels of hazardous materials. With all due respect to the train company, the ground was too frozen for the oil to penetrate through so the clean up is going to be relatively easy. But if this would have happened in the summer.........
  13. Accept what? I have yet to say ANYTHING about a young defense. WTF are you even saying? Accepting something, would not be me saying that we have the potential to go a long way. Accepting it would be like you and Hedley, saying, we suck and we will never get passed this stage. This defense is GOING to make mistakes, because they are YOUNG and INEXPERIENCED. This not true? The only difference between our lack of talent mistakes and our young and inexperienced mistakes, is the talent should overcome them much easier. We never said we suck and will never get past it. Let me rephrase. IF we have another season like the last one where our defense is as bad as it was, I will not accept the excuse of a young defense. He has had 6 years to develop the players that he has brought in. I know it was tough for him in the beginning to recruit but that's on him. That is what he gets paid for.
  14. Results with a below average defense. Again, you just nitpick sh#t so you have something to complain about. The potential is there. You can't see it, your loss. I get the feeling that you want us to accept the young defense excuse. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to hear it. Just like there is nothing wrong with accepting it. It's just a difference of opinion. You and several others are willing to accept it and Headley, myself and several others are not. Personally, I don't think it is a fireable offense to have a young D and struggle. I just do not want to listen to the excuse. And neither do a lot of people.

  16. Lol its not the fact that its difficult to learn, its the lack of talent that he has had since '09, on the defensive line. When your a first time HC, at NEBRASKA, you have to SHOW that your capable of winning games, to help your recruiting situation. Saban and Miles are putting kids to the NFL early, because of their capability to recruit. They both have a long resume of accomplishments, as they have been coaching for YEARS. Giving why they can recruit at a higher level. Like I said, Bo has to fight for kids to come here. Mostly because its Nebraska, and we have not accomplished anything in 15 years. We are closer now, than we have been since '97. That is why our recruiting has gotten better. Even Bo said it is difficult to learn. But none the less I hope you are right about being closer. I just don't want to hear the excuses anymore. I don't want to see Bo fired or anything, I just don't want to hear the excuse from anyone

ESPN does glorify the SEC and I will take nothing away from Northwestern's wins but neither Mississippi State nor Vanderbilt beat a team in the FBS that finished with a winning record. So the SEC's middle to bottom teams are not world-beaters as the whole conference is made out to be? Shocking. Isnt that the point we're all trying to agree on? Probably. I think they have 2 great teams, 4 strong teams and then a bunch of teams closer to the bottom than the top
  18. Be careful with that Viagra. Call your doctor if it's been longer than 4 hours.

  20. Just getting us ready for the "we made mistakes out there and shouldn't have given up 70 pts, BUT we are a young defense and will improve" No excuses allowed this season. Our defense is young because we pooped the bed for years in recruiting. A defensive genius should be able to put a group of young talented guys and make them at the very least average. He said himself he didn't forget how to coach defense. Just how to recruit it Seriously STFU with all your negativity. We didn't recruit well BECAUSE BO WAS A FIRST TIME HC AT NEBRASKA. Coming in to clean up a pile of trash. GET OVER IT. He has proven he can put a team together that has the potential to go a long way, and his recruiting has gotten 100 times better. Bo didn't forget how to recruit, its just that he needed to show kids what he was capable of, from a HC position. If he would have taken a HC job at LSU, he would have had a top 25 recruiting class. Its not easy to recruit here. It just gets easier when you have a resume that speaks for itself. I have to agree with the "no excuses this year." There are several top notch programs that are basically replacing their whole defense. LSU being one of them. Young or not, Bo has had plenty of time to get players to understand the defense. If it is so difficult to learn, maybe he needs to ask Nick Saban and Les Miles how to make it simple because based on comments around this board, they recruit kids who are not smarter than our kids and they seem to have CONSISTENT good defenses.
  21. I had a lot of respect for Jason Peter. Until he started thinking himself as the everlasting know-it-all of Nebraska football.
