  1. Thats one way to stop it but to be honest Foreman doesn't understand that the scheme he ran in college is different than we have now. The safety was supposed to stop that play. He didn't and when they tried to put someone else there they were worse. #3 was in the right spot several times just didn't make the play. I'm not a coach I don't see things the way they do but the guys breaking down the film that understand the assignments of the this defense pointed out the information I stated above. I just recycle it. I was a lot like Jay and thought the ends were the guys screwing up most of the time. THAT'S the problem and my point. Our scheme has the DE doing something else when he should be helping with this play and containing the end. It gets back to what I described before with their first move to pinch down on the line. It makes no sense to me especially when they keep beating us to the outside. And, I think it's pretty safe to say that all the guys on Sharp and Benning in the Morning right now fully understand the differences in schemes. BTW...I think this is the best radio show I have ever heard about Nebraska football. GREAT show today.
  2. You brought up the Wisky game and that is a prime example of what I'm talking about. So often, our DEs first move after the snap is to pinch down on the line instead of making the first move up field to get into the back field. I can't even imagine how many times I saw that this year and last. At first, I thought it was just Meredeth. But, I see other DEs do it also. I have always been taught that the first responsibility of a DE is to get up field and contain that end. But, that isn't what ours do a lot of the time. So, unless they are a freak of an athlete, this move makes them late for any run to the outside for which they are supposed to contain or at least string out to the side line. SO....let's get back to the Wisky game and that friggen jet sweep play that killed us over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. That DE SHOULD have seen the WR coming in motion and realized he needs to get up field. That NEVER happened. The DE should have been in the back field either breaking up the play or stringing that guy out to the side lines so that the safety isn't out there all by himself trying to make the play. I think it was Jay Foreman on the radio this morning talking about this play. I agree with him. He was saying that after that play killed you twice, someone needed to start jumping that play and committing to it and making them beat you some other way. BUT....our DEs never did that. Heck...nobody did.
  3. There are some things that happen in recruiting that I will never understand. Some people say he was too small. Well.....then I take that as meaning the staff is pretty sure they are getting a bigger fish at the position. Hope I'm right.
  4. The DE position is one that totally baffles me in this system. I honestly don't understand how they are being coached.
  5. This is where I am at on the DTs. I think so much of our team is in place to have a really good season next year. The JUCO DTs would have sealed the deal. We didn't get them. So, we need to rely on the ones that are in the program right now. NOW...saying that, I think we have some really good talent in the program that have the ability to step up and be dominating. My worries are in the depth. If we go into fall camp and have a couple season ending injuries, then this can become a real problem real fast. If let's say Valentine and Rome go down.....OUCH.
  6. One of the most frustrating things with fans and recruiting. The new toy is always the best and the one we should be playing with.
  7. Wow.....didn't know my post would cause such odd discussion.
  8. I'm not not saying that. It was more a commentary on how contrary that is to the general concept of natural selection. How does that conflict with natural selection? By forming a group where members can specialize that makes for a stronger whole. "Fittest" does not just mean 'most physically fit' Intelligence and wisdom are equal parts of the adaptation that is needed to survive. What makes you feel better? A - receiving a gift that you really wanted? or B - Giving a gift that lights up the person you gave the gift to? For me, its option B in a runaway. Why do you care?
  9. If we miss out on a lot of these guys, I would think we would do a combination of what you asked. I think we would take some players like Drake Martinez (who is listed as having an offer on Scout) that is a freak of an athlete and see if he fits in somewhere. Hey, maybe he can be that slot receiver the staff is looking for. He obviously has the speed for it. I would see them finding a few players they feel deserve a shot to see what happens. They wouldn't fill the class with those guys though.
  10. This staff needs to take Curry, Valentine, Peat, Williams, Guy and Randle and put together a really good D line and prove to the rest of the world that they can coach D linemen. I have absolutely no clue why this wasn't proven with Suh and Crick. But, for some reason, good D linemen think they need to go somewhere else.
  11. WTF??? Racism doesn't have anything to do with it. Look at the shape of the face, smile, eyes... Right when I saw the first picture, I thought it looked like someone I had seen before. I finally figured it out.
  12. Forgot about Walker. I also originally forgot about Dixon: So, it could be: Collins Newby Vandenburg Cochran Dixon or Badet Walker Willis (I agree, I'm more optimistic than some here) Another guy I forgot about is Drake Martinez. Do we still take him even though we have 3 safeties?
  13. Am I the only one who sees the resemblance I'm talking their faces. Not pinning high expectations on the kid. Newby
  14. Here is an updated list of who we have and what I see us taking. So, if the list of who we will still get is accurate, who is left on our board that can fill those spots? 2-3 DT Collins, Bradley???, Someone we haven't heard of???? 1-2 RB Newby 1 TE Vandenburg 1-2 OL Hinnant, Cochran 1 CB Joseph, Any hopes of Willis? How does Dixon fit into this?
  15. Are volleyball rules different than other sports? If she played in 2012, how can she play for us in 2013?
  16. Can we put to bed the theory that this kid was just delaying his "announcement"?
  17. Such a lame excuse, Miami has a million things to spend the entertainment $$$ on. Hmm... last I checked, so to does Florida and Florida St but they seemingly sell out. Here's the truth, Miami appeals only to thugs and wanna be thugs and that equates to well... probably 10K fans on average that can actually "afford" to doe to buy the ticket. Any rational minded person, be it a Canes fan or not, can't deny that Miami's glory years were based on recruitment of kids that were in many cases academically challenged, not because they weren't smart, because they came from the inner city where life is hard. Did they expand their knowledge and actually contribute to society, in some cases yes. Regardless, the off the field antics, the drugs, the prostitution, on field fights, (announcers that lose their job for applauding and giving their approval regarding on field behavior) and the list goes on. My mother has her nursing degree from Miami and refuses to watch Canes games because in her words, they (the players of the 80's and 90's) were an embarrassment to her. Furthermore, anyone remember a certain Miami player, ESPN analyst that was once quoted as saying "You can't do anything to me, all I have to do is catch another touch down and all is forgotten". He played for the cowboys, speaks openly about his years at the U and running with the thugs to go out and rob some clerk.... There lies the image associated with the Canes program and in it lies the distaste/disdain that so many have for that once competitive uni. Are you saying Miami appeals to fans who are cocky, belligerent, disrespectful, and unknowledgeable? Where in the world would you ever come up with examples to prove this?
  18. Didn't know that had been decided. You really think the NCAA is going to give Miami a 4 bowl game ban? no way Your team has gone three years with a record barely over .500. I'm saying it's not a forgone conclusion they will qualify.
  19. This guy has to be a joke. No way does someone come onto another board and say the things he says and actually be serious about it.
  20. LOL...we may miss the wishbone if we ever actually ran the wishbone.
