  1. What I understand is that you like to call OU chickenchits and say they were scared of us when they actually had legit reasons for their decisions. What team was OU supposed to dump off their schedule to make ours happen, they were in a different Division. All for a Game of the Century and us beating Bud Wilkinson? We straight up ran because of some lousy officiating at an A&M game and the fact we couldn't beat Texas..........including in 96 so poor Tom is getting bullied.....whatever. OK...obviously you have absolutely no clue as to the facts of how the Big 12 was formed and the facts as to the run up to us moving to the BigTen. No use arguing with someone who doesn't choose to look at the facts.
  2. If you don't understand that there were major issues with the Big XII that caused us to leave other than competitiveness, then you have simply either chosen to ignore them or weren't anywhere around when it happened.
  3. Look, we can argue about that till the cows come home. The fact is, even if it were a great rivalry decades ago, it hasn't been a rivalry since the Big 12 was formed. It's time to move on and I have absolutely no desire to tie our horse to one program in the non conference every year no matter who it is.
  4. This is the type of issue as to why I'm conservative. The government can take a good idea and screw up a wet dream.
  5. Imagine life where money is not involved with politics. I will always dream of that day but it will never happen.
  6. If that makes you feel better, sort of the way we ran away from the Big XII to a weak conference because we were chicken and were dominated by both participants in said Red River Shootout. Makes more sense to me now. Really??? It is a FACT that we wanted to play them every year and they said "no". AND, it is a FACT that we were absolutely dominating them at the time and Texas wasn't that good. AND, at the time when we decided to jump ship, the Big 10 was much better than they are this year. These two situations are completely different.
  7. They chickened out because we wanted to keep the game every year but they didn't want to have to play us and Texas every year. At the time (mid 90s) we were the most dominant program in the country and they stunk. Texas wasn't a dominant program either so they stuck with Texas and ran away from playing us every year. And, I understand that Texas was a bigger rival. But, to say OU fans back then didn't think Nebraska was a rival is laughable. The younger crowd of OU fans that don't remember the glory days between the two programs are the ones that are saying...."ehhh...you were never a real rival". Anyway, the gist of my point is, it's not a rival any more and we need to move on. We are in a conference that has potential to be very good and compete with any other conference in the nation. We have some teams in this conference that are setting up to be very good rivals with us. That is where our focus needs to be and not in the past.
  8. Something struck me with your post. You claim the defense was playing well at UCLA and our offense was matching them score for score. Those two statements don't go well together. If the defense is playing well, the offense doesn't have to match them score for score.
  9. Look, I used to crave the OU game even more than that left over turkey I ate before and during the game. I can be called an old timer. When I was in school, nothing beat OU week in Lincoln. But, it's not a rivalry anymore. Anyone who thinks it is is hanging on the past. They are not our rivals. Also, OU chickened out on us when the Big 12 was formed. They had the opportunity to play us every year and ran away from us.
  10. Why would you want to pin that one good non conference game down to one team every year? I love it that we play different teams from around the country. We have played some fun series and have more coming up that are not possible if we tie ourselves to one opponent every year.
  11. Not really that interested. It's in the past and I've moved on.
  12. Give our money back and the power to do it locally. I'm fine with dropping the program.
  13. What I need to make clear to these guys is that they need to plan these things for the friggen Idaho State week. Not OSU week.
  14. Seriously???? Name a challenging candidate that has had specific legislation written up at this point.

  16. Benning is great on there. He gives a much more intellectual view point and analysis than Peter did.
  17. Had to go to one last year but luckily it was held at the local elks banquet hall and attached was a bar with the game on! Banquet starts at 5:00. Game starts at 7:00. With luck, I can be home by the second quarter. With all the commercials, I can be caught up to live TV by half time........................................Hopefully. It doesn't help that the one we went to last year I won an $800 rifle.
  18. Nothing other than as some have said, the schools are putting in rules as to what you can do for packing a lunch also. We have sent lunches with our kids on days that what is on the schedule to be served is just unacceptable. But, (as I have said in this thread) we are actually breaking the rules for this because no food is allowed in the lockers. So great....by sending a good lunch with my kids, I am teaching them to break the rules.
  19. No, the local pheasants forever banquet has been scheduled for a long time. My 12 year old son went through a hunting program through them and gets something special if he goes to the banquet. I told him we will have to miss the game and watch it after we get home. I gave him the choice and he was disappointed with missing the game but still wants to go. Every once in a while I have to remind myself that there will always be more Husker games, my son will only be young once. I am almost positive a sports fan with little kids invented the DVR.
  20. I was REALLY wishing I was going to open this thread and it was going to tell me it was switched to 2:30. I usually really prefer night games but I have something I have to go to Saturday night. Hopefully there is a TV close.
  21. I think people need to realize that 850 calories is a pretty good meal calorie wise. You really don't need to be eating 1000 calories at a sitting or you're going to be feeling pretty full and lethargic, especially if it's high in fat and carbohydrates. Then you have students who aren't focusing in school because they are tired, kind of a catch 22. Like I said before, these kids should ideal be getting another small meal towards the end of school. Whether that's provided by the school or home is debatable. As for the quality of the food, that's purely on the school. You can server good tasty food and still be within the guidelines. I have done a ton of research on this locally since my kids started complaining and I started this thread. Here are my thoughts on your post. Calories don't fill you up. BUT, if you are restricted on calories and then feed high calorie foods, you reach the calorie count before the person eating them is full. I'll give you an example. I can go to some restaurants and order a grilled chicken salad that is large and will fill me up with probably half the calories of one cheese burger from Burger King with no fries or pop to go with it. I am going to be full on the salad, I'm not going to be full on just the cheese burger. Now, so you can point to the rules that state the kids can have all the veggies they want. Well, that is true if they are available and good to eat. I believe lettuce on the salad bar is just about the only fresh vegetable that is routinely served in our lunch room. Everything else is from a can that is purchased through a service that I believe is mandated by the government. THIS food is not good. This service has no competition and so they have no motivation to produce GOOD tasting food. They are more concerned about keeping everything in the nutritional guide lines that the friggen federal government put in place. So, in essence, you have everyone so concerned about the nutritional make up of the food and nobody even cares if it is good and edible or not unless it's a local cook but that local cook is stuck with feeding crap that is provided to her/him. It is a typical government program that every rule that is put in place has good intentions but nobody sits back and asks....."does this make sense and is it working?" Someone said...."eat your lunch and you won't be hungry". Prepare good food and they will eat the lunch.
  22. They can if we help them by shooting ourselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. If we can slow Miller down and make them work for every point, we can win. I was taking that into account. If we have no turnovers, they can't keep us under 30.
  23. The coaches have said this was the best walk on group they have ever had. This guy is a huge part of that comment. I am impressed.
