  1. It is great to land this kid. Maybe we will become RB U again (I Back U). Just wish we could land someone of that caliber on the D
  2. The Picker, a guy who predicts games in the Tulsa World, calls Stoops "Mid Game Bob" now. He was big game Bob when he won the nat'l championship and his 1st few big games. He won the NC with JOHN BLAKE's players - the same John Blake that was at NU for a season or two and then got into recruiting problems at UNC. Blake could recruit but he couldn't coach at the HC level. So Stoops has settled into the 'comfy' zone. OU fans at work complain about him like we complain about Bo - both were D guys but the O excels while the D gets blownout - ie T&M blew out OU in the bowl game - Go figure
  3. Agreed and NU would have to end the regular season at least 11-1 if not 12-0
  4. Of course they did! They have millions vested in Texas. Same with the SEC. They have to protect their 'golden calves'! well put. And it is all of the TV revenue that fuels the SEC dominance. I wonder how much of it goes under the table to recruits and their families.
  5. I'd say with our O (with improved ball handling - reduce fumbles and penalties) we could be top 10 if we have a very good D. If we end up wt a D like this year, then maybe 15th as we should win at least one more game next year. But if the inexperience of the D becomes a big issue and we are worse next year on D then we finish outside of top 25.
  6. Very true. Frasier was a leader and general on the field. Biggest Heisman oversight was giving the Heisman to george and not Frasier. Alot of voters probably wished for a redo after the NCG.
  7. Bingo on the bold line above. Restoring the order begins with the line play. It would be interesting to see how our greatest years running matched awards/honors won by our linemen.
  8. Not calling for a new coach but do you think OSU hiring Urban Myer set them back 5 years or whn Oregon hired Kelly or ND hiring their current coach? Sometimes the right coach at the right time can light a fire under a program.
  9. This link shows Alabama repeating next year. Ohio State - 2nd. NU early preseason rank is 22nd. Is this realistic in your opinion? Based on how we ended 2012 - probably so. No media love on NU until we start winning something of significance. The jury is out as to when that will happen. I'd like to think we could get back into the CCG and win it, but after the OSU blowout this pastyear and Myer given one more year as OSU coach - doubtful. http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/college-footballs-early-top-25-2013 This link picks us 20th. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8778225/alabama-crimson-tide-headline-college-football-way-too-early-2013-top-25
  10. What a list. We haven't talked about Redwine, Cory Ross either. So many great backs. I'd love to see us be known as I-Back U again.
  11. GREAT LIST! A couple of guys I didn't think of - forgot about - Flowers, Knox
  12. One more point to all of the above, NU had argueably the all time greatest football team in 1995. None of the current UA teams would hold a candle to them.
  13. The salute to Tom - his last game at NU TM's run against Wisky, Bell's block - remineded me of Husker receivers of old Rex's comeback Comeback wins - yes that was entertainment - I need a pacemaker
  14. I don't like seeing Bowden ahead of Tom & at this point Saban - hard to argue against 4 NC however. They did leave off some good coaches from the list Switzer, McKay, Leathy. I'd add them and drop off Miles, Bo S from Michgan - no NC, Jimmy Johnson - who ran a thug house. One could argue that what happened at PSU - Paterno should be dropped from the list.
  15. We haven't even touched on I.M. Hipp either. Who remembers his years?
  16. I'm amazed by the traditional powers ranked ahead of us: Louisville, Utah State, NW, Oregon State, San Jose State, Northern Ill, and Vanderbil This is disturbing to me that in year 5 of the Bo reign, we have a 9-4 Vanderbilt team ranked ahead of us. I get it that they play in the all powerful SEC. But even with our tough schedule (20th ranked), the AP writers still think more of a Vanderbilt team than a Husker team with a 10-4 record. 13 Louisville 11-2 781 22 14 LSU 10-3 756 9 15 Oklahoma 10-3 615 12 16 Utah State 11-2 456 18 17 Northwestern 10-3 443 21 18 Boise State 11-2 419 20 19 Texas 9-4 358 NR 20 Oregon State 9-4 303 15 21 San Jose State 11-2 243 24 22 Northern Illinois 12-2 227 16 23 Vanderbilt 9-4 180 NR
  17. 7-5 may even do it if we have a lot more blow out loses and no cc game. But this topic is about QBs - so Bo's D performance next year will go a long way to define TM's success
  18. What do you think is the greatest RB era in NU history? I think it is the Craig, Rosier, Rathman era of 82-85. All 3 were NFL pros and of course Rosier - the Heisman man and our best all time back IMO. You can throw in QBs Gill and Taylor that added to the running total Can the Philips, Benning, Green era match it? Is there another 4 year period that could be better? You can throw in QBs Frazier and Frost that added to the running total.
  19. good info. that 2007 was enought to taint everthing.
  20. That is a high compliment. I'd say Scott, Tommy and Zac are the toughest for different reasons: Scott wasn't afraid to run over people, Tommy ran so much, he took a lot of hits - but NO sacks in 1995. And Zac, kind of like TM, having to run for his life behind the line. I had forgotten how much he scrambled until someone mentioned it. He wasn't a speed runner like TM or Eric by any means but he worked hard on on turning a negative into a positive. I think I'm talking myself into placing him at # 9 ahead of Gerry and Vince F. Can't but him ahead of the 1961-62 QB just because he started the great era of Husker football under the BobFather - I was a very young boy then. I guess I was not overly impressed by Vince and Gerry. I do remember watching Humm and Tagge during my HS years - this is when I became a fan.
  21. yes, and he had to also overcome a cosgrove D - not as bad as Cosgrove's 2007 D - Keller had to try to overcome it
  22. That kind of leadership and "leading with his mouth" reminds me quite a bit of Martinez. I think there isn't a snowball's chance in hell we win the National Championship in 2013, but there are definite parallels between Frost's time here at Nebraska and Martinez'. Very true. They both faced a lot of high expectations to begin with, then a lot of negative talk to overcome. They both played/are playing with a chip on their shoulder. I think TM has made that chip a help mate instead of a burden. I think it will be a part of his motivation to go out on top next year. I don't think a NCC will happen but a CC is within range.
  23. Zac Taylor was a very valuable and under appreciated QB. He is penalized for being a part of the BC era which everyone wants to forget - for good reason. But without him, BC would have been -500 in all 4 years. Zac was a coach on the field. Very smart and I think he overcame some of Billy's play calling with his leadership and 'football smarts'. He was conference offensive player of the year. The CC game didint go well but he always seem to be a class act and led by example. I might place him at 9-10th. At a very min, I'd place him at # 11 and Gantz at # 12 - both had to deal with SW/BC play calling. Both were leaders on and off the field.
  24. Of those listed, which QB was the 'greatest Leader' - not performer? Personally, I think Scott Frost in 1997 showed great leadership and grit. NU fans were booing him in 96 and then again in the early stages of 97. But after he willed the team to a big victory against Washington, his grit to overcome Mo in the the flea kicker game was amazing. Not too many option QBs could lead the team down the field wt a minute to play and pull out the tie and then the win in OT. Then he lead with his mouth after the Tenn game against Manning. I wonder how many coaches changed their minds and voted Tom his 3rd NC after hearing Scott challenge them with these words after the Oragne Bowl victory: "I don't see how anyone with a clear conscience can look at themselves in the mirror and not vote for Nebraska as No. 1," Frost said. "Nobody else is saying this, so I'm going to say it. The AP has pretty much given Michigan the title — it's up to the coaches. The coaches have got to vote for Nebraska. "How could you not give this team, 13-0 and the winner of the Bowl Alliance, a share of the national title? They can't do it. The title has been split before and it should be split again."
