  1. No kidding, looks like Greg Davis. Well, there goes my appetite. And if Husker fans start doing the Gator chomp on 4th down, we'll have officially become Iowa West.
  2. Iowa fans are truly obnoxious--their jealous and bitterness towards all things Nebraska is legendary. But how can you have a "rivalry" with a .500 program that can't beat Iowa State most years and loses to directional schools at home? It would be like hating de-clawed kittens. I miss Oklahoma/Nebraska. Glad we're in the Big Ten, but no rivalry will ever top that one.
  3. I completely agree with you that it's only Game 3 of a new coaching era, that they've lost to two solid teams, and that it's way, way too early to jump ship. I'm still solidly behind Coach Riley. But come on, man. Nebraska's fan base isn't at all unique when it comes to reacting angrily to a loss, particularly the gut-wrenching emotion of the way we've lost the first two games. Go to any message board of any team in the country following a tough loss, and you'll see the same thing (and probably worse). Need proof? Check out the Texas boards following any of their losses this year, the USC board after yesterday, the Tennessee board last weekend, the Florida board after any game in which they win by less than 5 TDs. Or maybe a better exercise: find a single football message board where the team's fans reacted to a loss with nothing but smiles and quiet dignity. Social media and anonymous message boards are great for discussion between reasonable folks, but they also are always going to be "THE" outlets for the very worst elements of any fan base. The true indicator of a fan base is how the people act in person--at the stadium, in the arena, etc. And in that regard, Nebraska continually receives the kind of accolades from practically every visitor to Lincoln that you just won't see at places like Madison or Boulder or Austin.
  4. I'm now surprised at how often the vomit can rise in my throat in a single afternoon.
  5. I was surprised to lose to BYU. As ugly as this game is, losing to Miami on the road with this team does not come as a surprise.
  6. Talent. Today would have looked a lot different with Abdullah, Bell, and Gregory on the field regardless of whether Riley or Bo was doing the coaching. With a new system and the loss of key players, I figured this game for an ugly loss all summer--so great to be right. Now if only I could be right about them going 7-1 in Big Ten play... Sigh.
  7. Hate the all whites. And oddly enough, this game hasn't made me dislike them any less.
  8. I love this quote from Riley. I think it just says so much about the kind of coach and person he is. I couldn't agree more with this take. Spot on.
  9. This. We'll never see a red-faced Coach Riley spraying our starting QB with spit as he comes off the field. On the other hand, he's also not comatose on the sideline like Kirk Ferentz and calmly making out his grocery list on his note pad while his team falls to pieces all around him. Coach Riley has fire, but he's also an adult. I'm glad he's on our sideline representing DONU, and nothing that happened on Saturday changed that opinion. With all that said, he's very clearly got his work cut out for him this season.
  10. Hell no. It's one game. Look at how other storied programs have done in a new coach's inaugural year. If Nick Saban and Alabama can lose to La-Monroe and recover, I think we'll be alright. There were just way, way too many missed opportunities today. How many times did our o-line and RBs fail to execute on 3rd down? 2 missed field goals? Giving up a Hail Mary TD at the end, like some cheesy ending straight out of a bad Hollywood B-movie? No, this was one well-earned loss. And BYU deserved to win the game. Sure, the National Championship is out after today, but I don't think anyone here had their hotel accommodations lined up in advance for that game anyway. Everything else is still in front of us for a decent season. That said, we're going to find out what kind of coach Mike Riley is very quickly. The holes and lack of overall depth on this team could easily cost us 5-6 losses if the coaching isn't strong.
  11. Colorado still has a football program? Huh. Who knew?
  12. It gave them momentum and better starting field position than they would have had otherwise. 28+6 (we're talking both FGS here) = 34 27 +7 = 34 No. Wait...so 34-34 and overtime wouldn't be better than a Hail Mary gut punch loss?
  13. It gave them momentum and better starting field position than they would have had otherwise.
  14. Disgusting loss. Credit to BYU--they out-coached and out-played our guys. In Memorial Stadium. If there's a more putrid way to start the season, I'm not sure what it would be.
  15. A 3 and out? I'd almost forgotten that those were allowed!
  16. It's a nightmare! I feel like I've been kicked in the stomach. Knew there'd be an period of adjustment, but this is just godawful football.
  17. How much of this disaster is on Banker, and how much on the talent level and adjustment to a new scheme?
  18. Have they even come close to stopping BYU? I'm not talking for a series--that might be asking too much. I'm talking about stopping them on a single pass play. Good Lord.
  19. Actually, Kaz is an a$$hole all by himself and Bo had little to do with it. He was an a$$hat before he came here and just kept growing. Even if Bo was retained Kaz was out. Continually trying to start fist fights with players the last couple years had him under the microscope (finally). This. Ask any knowledgeable Hawkeye fan (I know--an oxymoron) what his behavior was like in Iowa City. When you listen to the emphasis that Mike Riley placed in "treating people the right way", it was clear from the outset that Kaz was not going to be retained. His antics with players cross the line, and it's not simply a case of old school motivation that teaches in the process of the rant (like, arguably, a Bo Schembechler approach). No, with Kaz, it boils down to a grown man having a full-fledged temper tantrum, and then taking out his fury on college kids with some of the most vile, demeaning language I've ever heard. I'm not at all sorry to see him go.
  20. Players deserve better. Horsebleep calls by Beck on 3rd and 4th
  21. Defense, if it's not too much to ask...well, you already know the rest. Thanks in advance.
  22. This game is so winnable it's not even funny. Frustrating to watch the same old stuff over and over again.
  23. I heard this one rumor about Bo visiting a McDonald's just outside of Lincoln. According to my source, Bo attempted to order an Arch Deluxe and became irate when told that the sandwich had been off the menu for at least a dozen years. Then, as he stomped out of the restaurant, I have it on good authority that Bo did not follow McDonald's directive to "please put litter in its place", heartlessly tossing a straw wrapper on the floor as he left. Take it for what it's worth.
