  1. How was that one "fumble" not already down by forward progress? the guy had multiple defenders driving him away for like 4 seconds before the ball came out. I think we go out and find the absolute worst possible refs for our home games. And a vendetta against Southern Miss is required as well. Ridiculous.
  2. I know you guys had your "wake up call" last week and most think that will mean a blowout of us. But we had a much more serious wake up call last week. Our guys are hungry for a win. I expect a good game at least through the 3rd.
  3. It was a lot worse worse than it looks.
  4. Thanks for the summary. Are things bleak in Hattiesburg after the loss or are the fans still optimistic? I think it's going to take at least a year or 2 to recover from last season for you guys. Things are certainly optimistic in the Burg right now. Even after the loss to Texas (who, IMO, I think is a very good team) some very good things came out of the defeat. The fire and motivation that usually defines Southern Miss football was evident once again. However, I think you are right that it will take some time to recover from eLLLLLLLLLLLLoss's affect. Our guys played their hearts out Saturday night but could not overcome the avalanche of mistakes (3 fumbles lost on first 3 possessions; 1 more fumble in the 4th quarter and then 2 more INT's in the 4th). Monken will be preaching ball security to the team this week. I think we will come out much more confident this week. As for our fanbase, we lost a good many regular fans attending games. So if we don't win at least one of the next 3 away games, then I can see our attendance dipping to as low as 20k. This is coupled with the fact that we have the worst home schedule we maybe have ever had. The people that do know something about the program and football in general know that we are on our way back up. This game will be a route ---nothing to see here. I hope your players have the exact same mindset.
  5. Oh great, another former B12 offensive coordinator. Just like Wyo's HC Dave Christensen. But it sounds like Southern Miss doesn't have it's hurry-up offense together yet, like Wyoming did. A lot of it has to do with the Southern Miss QB not being nearly as good as Smith. He's pretty good.
  6. I sure hope your guys are looking ahead to UCLA.

  8. There are lots of guys on this team that can make plays. Our receiving corps is absolutely stacked with talent but is unfortunately plagued with inexperience. Rickey Bradley (RS SR.) caught 7 passes for something like 175 yards last week. Granted it was against Texas State (there defense was sneaky good) but it is a sign of things to come. Our QB Allan Bridgford (transfer from Cal) looked very good last week. He's only been with the team a month which means he will only get better. Our OL play was nothing short of terrible last week. This unit is the most inexperienced on the team which is never good. I do believe, however, that they will be much better this week. From what I've read, NU's defense isn't really anything to write home about. Our defense is by far our strength and will be tested in this game. We have some big and experienced linebackers (Allen Howze 6'3" 235 Sr; Dylan Reda 6'3" 240 S) that I think will give NU some fits in the first half. If we get our running game going in this game and Bridgford has a little time to throw the ball, this game could be much closer then most people think it will be.
  9. But if Bo had done in the last 5 years what Bielema has done in Wisconsin's last 5, we'd probably be find ourselves fighting like hell to keep the same from happening to us. I would think it would be much harder to steal a head coach from Nebraska rather than Wisconsin.
  10. Wisconsin also lost their head coach to a mid-level SEC team. Much rather be Nebraska.
  11. Why isn't Southern Miss an option? Ol' Pappy Buttermilk did pretty solid job runnin' the foobawl program ova at lil ol' Suthun Miss..
  12. +1 Kentucky lost to Louisville & Western Kentucky. Arkansas lost to ULM & Rutgers Ol Miss lost to Texas Auburn lost to Clemson LSU lost to Clemson Miss St lost to Northwestern Mizzou lost to Syracuse Florida lost to Louisville This just shows me that their conference is far from elite over the other conferences. Just because they happen to always have two of the most dominant teams nationally doesn't mean that the rest of the conference is as hard to deal with. Texas aTm showed that. One year removed from the Big XII they stepped right in and competed for the division. Not to mention that Kentucky and Vanderbilt didn't beat ANY TEAM with end of season record above .500. I am not sure about the other teams, but those 2 for sure. Mississippi State only beat 1 more team over .500 than USM did last year.. Middle Tennessee State.
  13. What are you guys thoughts on this? Stoops commented on how a lot of the "SEC dominance" was just propaganda. He continued to say that the SEC was strong and the top and terribly weak at the bottom and was not the strongest top to bottom. I've heard a few say that the Big 12 is stronger top to bottom; which I would agree with. As a Southern Miss fan in MS, I hear my share of SEC propaganda from the lesser schools in our state who think they own the place.
  14. How are you guys doing with the recovery? Getting things put back together? Well, for the most part. Some even say that we benefitted from the damage. Insurance completely covered brand new field turf in the stadium and a brand new (and nicer) scoreboard. I'm really starting to wish the tornado had destroyed our basketball arena. (sarcasm) Today began the implementation of the "Southern Miss Beautification Project" which is basically restoration and improvement of the landscape that was ravaged by the storm. Add that along with the completely new dorms and all the new buildings going up, good things are happening at Southern Miss. We're slowly making our way out the rut we've been in. Now if only this conference realignment crap would sort itself out putting us in a good situation athletically. BTW the turf and the scoreboard were damaged and rendered useless by the tornado. We aren't just getting this stuff for free because people feel sorry for us. Do you think mississippi gets more tornadoes than nebraska? don't think there's been a tornado in Lincoln, in quite sometime There are a good many every year. But I'm no weather expert.

  17. They had a very hard schedule, and I believe lost quite a bit of their starters, and combine that with a new coach. USC would my vote for under performing under-performing of the year. No. We had a hard opening schedule as three of the first 5 games. You can't tell me that Western Kentucky beating you down 42-17 is because of hard schedule. Western Kentucky. And this game was at the beginning of the season. I agree with randy. Wasn't even close that we were the most dissapointing team in recent history. By that I mean the last 30 or 40 years. But I do have one correction randy. It wasn't the most dissapointing team ever fielded in major college football. It was the most dissapointing, pathetic, and ignorant college football COACHING STAFF ever hired and performed in major college football. Amazing what can happen in a year.
  18. Not to mention we're in more of a bind financially because of a large tornado ripping through our campus.
  19. Wow. Where to start? First of all, I didn't think we played you tough at all besides the majority of the first half. Eloss took out our starting quarterback and put in the golden ponyboy Anthony Alford. EJ wasn't interested in winning. He was interested in riding off into the sunset of retirement after a few winning seasons at lil ol' Suthun Miss... After the Nebraska game, he was quoted saying, "We weren't going to win that game. So I used a sort of a practice." What. The actual. F***. We had the talent to win the conference and beat one or two of Nebraska, Boise State, or Louisville. Unfortunately, this would have required great coaching. All we had last year was a pile of crap who were getting paid to ruin our program. Johnson was also caught talking about how our players weren't at the SEC "pad level" that he was used to. That the slow, unathletic, uncoordinated, and completely untalented players from lil ol' Suthun' Miss didn't deserve to have such an esteemed coach from the holy of all holy conferences, the $EC. Johnson NEVER respected his players. He would always refer to them by their last names in press conferences as if they were just his little wooden puppets that would do all the work for him and carry him into retirement. He never, not once, had a connection with his players. From banning the play of music on the practice field, locker room, and weight room to hiring a Strength and Conditioning coach that had been out of the game for over 20 years.(This guy was half the problem. Didn't believe in stretching but was a firm believer in playing SOCCER every day before practice.) From hiring a defensive coordinator who had failed just about everywhere he had been to hiring one of his old drinking buddies (who had a very serious alcohol problem which led to our quarterbacks coach to coach the entire offense. Disaster.). Like I said, he hired a bunch of his old friends to ride off into the sunset with him into retirement, because "Everybody can win at Southern Miss. It's just a fact." (Yes, he actually said that.) He never respected his players, therefore his players never respected him. Simple as that. It was bad enough to where the players had to call a meeting with our AD about their troubles, with no coaches allowed. About as ignorant and snide as it gets. And if you know anything about the South, you know that people around here don't appreciate that. I could literally write a book on this. Made me so mad to see my University taken advantage of in such a way. Auburn better hope they have enough talent to outplay EJ's coaching because if they don't it will get bad. I hope that answered your question. Sure, all that may be true. But South'n Miss had a brutal schedule last year. Especially your early sched. I seriously doubt Fedora could have won over half your first seven games. That said, it looks like the Golden Eagles had pretty much turned into Golden Showers by October. Losing to Rice by four scores? Ouch, man. Ouch. Good luck with your season! Well, except for your second game of course. Fair assessment. Our early season schedule WAS brutal. But we didn't even compete. We had as much talent if not more than in 2011 when we went 12-2 and finished top 20. Fedora would have 8 or 9 games and would have competed for a conference championship with the players we had. We had the players to win ALL those games. That would have required fantastic coaching however. And we didn't exactly have that.
  20. I'm glad Monken is bringing Bridgford on because honestly we don't have any experience at QB. Don't get me wrong. We are very deep talent wise at the QB position but our quarterbacks got zero development last year. EJ was only interested in playing Alford because AA was the only guy worthy of Johnson's coaching. Bridgford was a 4 star out of high school and has had 4 years of experience under a system that is pretty similar to what Monk is bringing down here. His stats are no where near impressive. However, the interesting thing is our OC was the passing game coordinator for Cal when Bridgford was there. He's the only QB with any significant experience in leading a team at the D1 level. Not saying he will be given the job. In fact, I think he'll make our other QBs better to where they WILL be able to lead us. Ricky Lloyd is the guy who I believe is our most talented and most capable quarterback. He is the record holder for career passing yards all-time in California HS football. His problem is making the right reads/knowing when to check in and out of plays and formations. Like I said, I believe having Bridgford will help our QBs in the long run. Monk is known for his ability to develop quarterbacks so we have reason to feel okay about the most important position for this fall. The question mark is the OL this year...
  21. Trying to make it possible. Would absolutely LOVE to. Love Nebraskans. Love Memorial even more. Trying to work it out. If you do come up to Lincoln, you need to try some local spots to eat: - Runza - Watering Hole (best wings in town) - Lazlo's - Misty's Been told by a lot of my buddy's that Misty's is legendary but is insane on game days. That would be something if I could get up to Lincoln and drop by Misty's!
