  1. At least part of the problem is you're not asking a coach to come in here and turn things around. He should be able to come in and win 10 games his first year and not look back from there. We'd be happy with four close losses in the reg season to good teams if the team showed heart and didn't get pushed all over the field. Also, as long as those four losses didn't come with a hefty side of snide contempt for the fans and media. I don't disagree. I also don't think there's many potential coaches excited about that in the job description at Nebraska when they can make the same coin elsewhere.

  3. I have no idea if it's an imaginary yardstick or not. It's often referenced about our blowouts on national tv. I'm sure the national media wouldn't bother rehashing 2003 if we fire another 9 win coach.......after all, it's an imaginary yardstick.
  4. I agree with what Jay Foreman wrote today. He doesn't think the problem is coaching, nor do I. http://nebraska.247sports.com/Article/Jay-Foreman-breaks-down-Nebraskas-loss-to-Minnesota-157368
  5. It's also possible Petersen is well aware of what happened to Dan Hawkins coaching career after leaving Boise State.
  6. You were not first embarrassed during the Callahan years?
  7. And the previous coach hired away from Boise State didn't do half bad. Ok, that might be a joke.
  8. We are not Iowa Because they decisively beat Minnesota. So let's offer Ferentz
  9. 9 wins with a completely superior schedule in every way to what we will have in 2014. Be better than 9 wins, or we've regressed. That simple. Completely agree......contract for any new head football coach should come with a pink slip on the back page of the contract for any season 8 wins or less. Including his first season. You would have fired Nick Saban for going 7-6 in his first year at Bama? And he lost to Louisiana-Monroe too. should have been fired I guess This is not an Alabama discussion......but if Pelini had gone 7-6 his first season here, it would have been an improvement over Callahan's final season........this is a discussion about replacing a coach who has not won fewer than 9 games in any season he's coached here.
  10. The Steelers don't get rid of head coaches. Nebraska didn't use to.

  12. I am of this train of thought as well. We may think the national perception is on our blowouts. But if we fire yet another successful coach, we might see there something to what EZ-E wrote above.
  13. Pelini won "now".....immediately elevating the program. So, at this point, he won "then". And marginally at that. And he hasn't improved. He's regressed. And he's lashing out and burning bridges whilst doing so. He's still winning. If you want to call it marginal that's fine. He's been consistent at 9 and 10 wins. If you want to call that regression, that's fine also. I don't really have any comments about the lashing out or burning bridges as it's not something I'm in the know or care about.
  14. Pelini won "now".....immediately elevating the program.
  15. They won't. I posted that because there are very few names that haven't been thrown out here on one thread or another.
  16. I understand the concept of what you're saying, but if Bo is fired, it's not for what he did in 2008-2010. It's for 2011-2013. Similarly, if a new coach is hired, his progress wouldn't be measured in comparison to where Bo had the program in 2009. It would be measured with where he had the program in 2013. What about what EZ-E wrote above didn't happen as recently as last season? And this season is only half completed.
  17. I totally agree and posted something similar about expectations in another thread (the ESPN thread on here if I remember). My expectation would not be they equal Pelini. If you get rid of a guy, it better exceed what he did. Immediately.
  18. I support Pelini remaining as head coach. There's a lot to be said for coaching stability. DONU is a prime example. The threads about potential future coaches for us have been less than inspiring with the names put forth, and I think very few of those names are likely to happen anyway.
