  1. Hey everyone, A fellow Husker is in need of some help. I don't normally post requests like this, but this really struck a chord with me, and after reading I'm sure you'll understand why. His name is Justin Diehm, he's 28 with 2 young boys, a life-long Husker fan, and was paralyzed in a swimming accident on July 23. To compound things, he's now facing a divorce, and a very tough road ahead without the support of a partner. I've made a small donation to the family, and figured some from the HB community may also want to help a fellow person in need, who happens to bleed our school colors. He's currently at the Madonna clinic in Lincoln working hard everyday on rehab, and needless to say, the medical bills are beginning to stack up and will for quite some time. Ways we can help: A ) Donate online -- any amount is great: Click here to donate using Credit Card, bank account, or paypal (acct not required). B ) Contribute by mail -- card, gift, check -- send to address below. C ) Post supportive comments in this thread -- I'll pass along. D ) Visit him -- if you know a former Husker, have them contact me and I'll try to arrange it. Crouch & Rodgers have visited, and I'm sure he'd be happy to talk football with anyone else for a mental break from rehab. Here's his site for more info: http://www.caringbri...sit/justindiehm We all hear about the Husker Spirit - well here's an opportunity to truly exemplify the power of Red. Many people experience tough times in our lives - and it's the support from family & community that lifts you beyond what you're facing. And Justin could certainly use all the support we can offer right about now. Thanks for reading, & let me know if anyone has any questions. Chad ------------------------- Mailing Address: College Sports, Inc. c/o Justin's Fund PO Box 1463 Bellevue, NE 68005 *Note "Justin's Fund" on the envelope or Memo & include your email for a confirmation of receipt. *FYI: I'm not keeping a penny from these donations. I'm just gathering the money to pass along to his grandmother who is managing the donations. I didn't want to post her name & address for privacy reasons, so will use my company account and transfer 100% of the donations to her. ----------------- *Please note Justin did not request I do this, nor did anyone from his family. I did receive consent from his Mom to post this info, so feel free to share with others who may be inclined to help.
  2. A fun poll to guess why the board looks wacked out: A. Huskerboard is now available in 3D! Put on your headgear & checkout the action coming right at you... B. Hacked by KU fans C. We're upgrading the board software and having some problems integrating the previous skin. The colors may be off for a while and the scoreboard MIA; but will be back to normal before long and Huskerboard will be better than ever. D. Come up with your own ideas... Thanks for your patience.
  3. Also remember every view helps keep the lights on - so please open early & often! You can access using the Videos button at the top, or within the side-bar on the top right. You don't even have to watch the whole thing - just make sure it loads.
  4. Ok I've reproduced what you guys are talking about - it is strange. I notice it only happens when you have the side-bar open, so if you close that & navigate you shouldnt experience the problem. Did this seem to begin recently, or has it been happening for a couple months?
  5. Thanks for the feedback guys. I know it may seem as if the board admins don't care about downtime/slow performance, but we truly do and have been taking efforts to improve it. The fact is an environment like this with constant activity, uploading etc. is very unpredictable and not easy to keep up with. After the outages during the A&M game, we made some major adjustments to free up resources - which definitely improved things preventing a major crash, but as you noticed did not completely resolve the issue. I have since purchased even more memory to attempt to combat your insatiable demand for Huskerboard We hope this helps, and appreciate your patience & loyalty as we grow together. On a related note - we will soon be offering a "HuskerBoard Donors" program, to hopefully off-set the costs associated with running a high activity site. The program will give members special discounts on Husker gear & tickets, so it will be mutually fulfilling. So if you enjoy the board, and want to see it stay free but also want the performance improved, please join the Donors Program! GBR
  6. Thoughts & prayers for the family. Let the mod team know if huskerboard can do anything to help.
  7. Sad to hear. Prayers for him & his family.
  8. Thanks for sharing Dunder, and sorry to hear about your friend. He sounds like a great person. I sent a little donation his way. Thoughts & prayers for Carl & family.
  9. **Informational article posted per the request of Chelsea Travers with Care Meridian** Athletics are a fun and healthy way to stay active that millions of people take part in each day. However, some of these activities can take a toll on the physical body of the individual. Contact sports like football, boxing, soccer, and hockey can cause damage that can change a person’s entire life and sometimes can even be irreversible. An example of this type of sports injury is traumatic brain injuries. A TBI can permanently alter someone’s life and can even require long-term rehabilitation and care from special facilities like CareMeridian and these injuries are often too common when taking part in sports. According to the Brain Injury Resource Center, an estimated 300,000 sports related brain injuries occur each year. Most of these injuries are not classified as severe. Many of these mild TBI’s or concussions may appear unthreatening, but in fact they can often cause significant damage if not treated properly. The hidden danger of a concussion comes from the fact that it is usually passed off as nothing more than pain and soreness inflicted from the sporting activity, which is why they can easily be a repeatable injury. Consequently, concussions are often regarded as very hazardous and should be given thorough and constant attention. Concussions are head injuries that are caused by blows to the head that usually cause the brain to move violently within the skull. For a sport like football this type of injury is common and unfortunately, at times ignored. Many athletes shake off the pain that’s caused from the head injury, because the immediate effects are often unnoticed. Yet, without treatment, a simple injury can cause a lifetime of suffering. The NFL has a concussion rate of 61% and this type of injury not only sidelines the player impacted, but can end their career. Some NFL players, like quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Steve Young, retired from the game rather than take on the risk that comes from the injury, but others are not so lucky. Many retired football players and athletes battle memory loss and constant migraine headaches that result from head injuries. Participating in athletic competition (football, soccer, basketball, etc…) is inherent in many different peoples’ lifestyles, but comes with risk of injury. Mild TBI is among the most common forms of sports related injuries, which also include fractures, tears, bursitis, sprains and more. As an enjoyable means of human interaction and competitive lift, sports will always be an integral ingredient of modern day society. Ultimately, it’s important to be aware of mild traumatic brain injuries (symptoms, treatment, etc…) and the frequency of occurrence on the field of play.
  10. Very cool story, thanks for sharing with the board. Enjoy and be proud - it's those moments that will propel you into great things. Who else can use a story like that during an interview as a talking point about the culmination of all your hard work, as a team etc etc. Interviewers love off the topic stories you can tie into your character somehow. And it sounds like you have the work ethic & skills to back it up. You are set my man. I feel bad for your competition, a la Suh's last night at the awards ceremony - they never had a chance.
  11. There are several options on TicketHippo (who supports the board), but it may be out of your range. The "party deck / standing room" tickets are cheap so I imagine the view isnt very good. Big 12 tickets Hope that helps. Good luck.
  12. Ok we've run into a snag. There are numerous upgrades that our server has to receive to accommodate the new board software - so first we have to get our server admin to make these upgrades.. will keep you posted.
  13. Yes it will. And no problem guys - thanks to all of our members.
  14. Hey Army Husker, Im not clear on what you're referring to - can you please be more specific - where do you see a huskerboard promo? Are you sure you aren't looking at the 5% discount for the "tickethippo" ad? Thanks for the support.
  15. There will be a long overdue board upgrade this Wed, Oct 14th. This will cause about 1-2 hrs of downtime. Just like the cable guy they wont give an exact time - only that it will occur sometime during the day on Wednesday. Thanks for your support & patience over the last few months with the board inconsistency. This upgrade will enhance usability, increase load-times, and also reduce the chance of board down-time during heavy traffic days. Thanks to those who have purchased from our sponsors listed at the top of the site - it's because of you we're able to afford this upgrade, and maintain a zero cost site. GBR

  18. Hey Hokieluv, thanks for the good words. What are your thoughts on David Wilson? Everything I hear scares me. I know Williams is talented but my hunch is DW takes over by early season. Best of luck to you guys this year.
  19. Clarifying the free shirt deal - to qualify you just need to order the equivalent of a $10 pass. So you can simply order a single dinner/band pass for $10, 2 lunch passes @ $6 ea etc. (1 shirt per person). A pretty good deal considering these shirts are normally $15+, so you're essentially getting a $25 value for only $10.
  20. Hey guys, I hope many of you will attend this event to support other Omahans in need. My Dad is helping to organize a fundraiser for the Salvation Army nightwatch program he volunteers for, and also the Omaha Firefighters Memorial. These are 2 very important causes for our local community, and he asked if I would share the word with our Huskerboard community. It's on Aug 21 at the Omaha Firefighters Hall. View more details & order online today here: http://www.omahafirefightersmemorial.com/ He has arranged for Trev Alberts & Tommie Frazier to be at the event for a "meet & greet", and there will also be Husker memorabilia at the silent auction, so I know this will be of interest to a lot of you. To help the cause, Im willing to give a free t-shirt to the first 25 Huskerboard members who purchase a pass (at least 1 dinner/band pass for $10) to this event. After you order online through the link below, just email your name to admin@huskerboard.com so I can confirm, and I'll have your free shirt at the door the day of the event. (I can't guarantee the exact shirts or sizes - 1st come 1st serve - but they will come from http://huskerts.com) They are also very much in need of donations to help the auction generate some money. I'm sure there are plenty of season ticket holders who have at least one game they can't make this season - that would be an easy and excellent donation for this great cause. Or any type of memorabilia or gift certificate would also be greatly appreciated. Please email your offer to me so I can make sure there is a need for that item. If an item is accepted, I will give each donor another free t-shirt. 22. Sorry for the lack of update guys. All of your donations were received and provided to the family, with great appreciation. Here are some comments from my friends: "Chad, They were overwhelmed by the generosity before Christmas and we were able to give them $520 more dollars in gift certificates for gas and groceries last week. The mother's status really won't change for the better but we are at least making her life easier. She wanted everyone to know how much it meant to her that she was able to enjoy Christmas without worrying about how to get by. The boy is working on getting into college and we think he has a good chance since he is in the top 20% or so of his class. Tell everyone thank you so much and that what they did really changed lives." Some more comments: "The student is doing pretty darn well in class; especially considering the number of stressors going on in his life. He's trying to get into Texas A & M. I think he stands a pretty good chance...good SAT scores and top 15% of the class. " A big thanks again guys. I cant tell you how proud I am personally to have been able to come through like that, knowing how important this is. A great representation not only of Husker fans, but human spirit.
