  1. For those wondering, there is a "no buy-out" clause in the contract. Which means if Callahan "bolts" for the NFL, he gets squat. I don't think a coach that plans on taking the first NFL job that comes along would agree to a contract like that.
  2. Yep, you're right, Callahan is a fantastic recruiter. Beck has a boat load of talent, but had some growing up to do. If he has done that, I think he will have a solid career at NC State. Getting commitments from 3 top 5 HS quarterbacks (Beck, Freeman, Gabbert), the #1 JUCO QB (Lee) and a highly underrated (although he had a bunch of offers - Witt) I would say qualifies him as an excellent recruiter. Add to this 2 top 5 running backs (Lucky, Gray) as well as the #2 "fullback" (Castille) as well as Brandon Jackson (2nd round NFL pick). Not to mention Cody Glenn, who when not injured has proven to be a fantastic RB. While we're at it lets talk about the OL too (a position that had become a joke at NU) His first year he gets a top 3 tackle (Murtha) who looks to be finally hitting his potential. The next year gets a few gems in DJ Jones and Keith Williams (both who are already on the 2 deep) as well as one of the top JUCO tackles (Nicks). Then he finds two bohemoths out of Arizona in Burkes and Jones. Then, as we well know, this year is looking pretty good with Steinkuhler, Givens, Hoch, and perhaps Robinson. Yep, all in all I'd say "master recruiter" is a pretty good title for Callahan.
  3. FWIW, Coming out of hs (1 year separation) Lucky was ranked higher and ran the 40 faster than C.J. Gable. 2005 Marlon Lucky was #2 in CA (Forty: 4.44 secs) rivals Lucky 2006 C.J. Gable was #3 in CA (Forty: 4.6 secs) rivals Gable So Lucky is faster, ranked higher, in addition to being bigger and more powerful. Watch games or look at highlights instead of 40-times. You mean like the game on Saturday? You know, the one where Marlon rushed for 233 yards? Yeah, he looked plenty fast.
  4. Expecting to win 10 games is one thing, believing the coach should be fired because he doesn't reach that expectation is another. I would agree, that if we only win 8-9 games and the losses are unequivocated blow-outs (see 2003) changes (perhaps not Callahan, but big changes) need to be made. However, I just don't see that happening. Progress is being made, hell we had the highest offensive output since Eric Crouch was our QB, I'd say thing are heading in the right direction.
  5. We're full? At his position, sort of. I believe we are still holding a spot for Kuli, but he could play either DE or DT. We are done with straight DE's.
  6. Must be going crazy, has always been a 2 star, on Rivals anyway.
  7. Kugler made the joke, "So the reason you can't enroll early is because you will be baking a cake?" Blaine laughed and said, "Yeah, pretty much."
  8. That's because there is only one class in Nebraska high school baseball.
  9. Other than Glenn who has had that problem? Octavian. Octavian had the injury "bug" before he got to Nebraska. I suppose OU should look at their training program too, seeing as Adrian Peterson had injuries pretty much his entire soph/junior seasons. What about Texas? Their top 2 receivers have both went down with injuries this spring. This is not something that happens only in Lincoln. Glenn's injury, by all accounts, is the kind of injury that just lingers and may never go away. I've heard people say they injured their ankle in high school and still wake up with pain in their 30's and 40's. Injuries happen, it's an unfortunate part of all sports, especially football, but we shouldn't get our panties in a wad and think it's only happening to us. It just seems that way because we follow our own team much more than other teams. What I find even more amazing then the injuries we have sustained, is the big one we never really did, Zac Taylor. Outside of the last part of the KSU game in 2005, Zac didn't miss a snap. All this while being hit on nearly EVERY play. We would have been completely screwed if he would have went down, but he didn't, injuries are funny that way.
  10. You mean like Philip Dillard? Or Seth Jensen? Or Zac Lee? Or Sam Keller? Or Jaivorio Burkes? Or William Yancy Or Sean Fisher? Yep, you're right they always out recruit us.
  11. For the love of all that is holy, STOP WORRYING ABOUT BRYCE. I swear, Rivals teasers are as reliable as the National Enquirer they are in the business of selling subscriptions, not delivering accurate teaser lines.
  12. I'm really liking the Jonas Gray "Out of left field" prediction Gabbert is really in this kids ear That would be HUGE!
  13. Wow, taking Grixby before Okafor, even from a purely athletic standpoint? I'm going to have to respectfully disagree.
  14. Well, I hate to say I told you so, but.....
  15. Still has one class to complete (which he should have no problem with). Looks like he will be here sometime in July.
  16. He committed to Kansas.
  17. Last year to the day we received our 4th committment from Shawn Sullivan. Niles Paul 1/2/06 Demetrious Davis 6/2/06 Jared Crick 6/8/06 Shawn Sullivan 6/11/06 We then received 2 more (Blue and Witt) at the end of June. We didn't get another one until August 5th, so I think it's safe to say we are off to a good start this year. Patience is a virtue and something you have to have in the whole recruiting game.
  18. IT's ONLY JUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FEBRUARY IS 8 MONTHS AWAY!!!!!!!!!! WOULD YOU LIKE US TO STOP TAKING VERBALS FROM ALL POSITIONS EXCEPT LINEBACKER?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  19. Yep, it really sucks for Jimmy, hopefully when the coaches evaluate his film they see enough to get him an offer. Bryce is N, that still hasn't and will not change.
  20. For the love of God stop worrying about Bryce. He is going to be wearing Scarlet and Cream come 08, you can take that to the bank. Jimmy got hurt, he couldn't go to the camp. Jimmy's mom was the one driving, she obviously wasn't going to drive up if her kid wasn't going. Bryce and his parents decided not to make the trip because A) he already has verballed B ) he could get injured just like Jimmy C) The price of gas plus point A makes the trip all the less neccissary. Bryce is N, worry about more important things.
  21. Wow, wait a minute buddy. I think you better watch out trying to compare a kid that, while maybe lazy and unmotivated, hasn't done anything to deserve being lumped in with the likes of Lawrence Phillips. If what is being said about him is true (which I have no idea is or isn't) he sounds more like David Horne than anyone else. Tons of talent, but no motivation. Luckily he is still in high school and has time to fix his attitute and turn his life around. He certainly sounds like he has all the physical tools. Seriously though man, comparing a kid to someone who is now in prision is pretty sad. Phillips is a straight up criminal, Vondrae hasn't done anything to deserve being lumped into that category.
  22. Like I said, you can all worry all you want, Bryce is N! He loves Nebraska, it is true that before he committed Texas was one of the schools he was very interested in, but he is solidly committed now, trust me. You can all believe whatever the hell you want to believe and check all the "recruiting experts" blogs and whatnot but Bryce is as committed as humanly possible. Unless something unforseeable would happen (ie coaching change, family problems, etc) he is coming to Nebraska, you can take that to the bank.
  23. It's because Robinson is ranked as a guard and Steinkuhler is ranked as a tackle.
