  1. And if he had won he would be in the first year of his term still. Also, wasn't he doing AD work for Creighton when he was brought back to NU? I don't remember the details of that. Either way it was clear that Osborne would be around for Pelini, and that Pelini is willing to ask TO questions when he has them. That's reassuring.
  2. I'm a little late to the game, but I read this far so I may as well give my suggestion. BONES as in
  3. I'm happy! Pelini said all the right things, and you could tell that he actually believed what he was saying. Sincerity goes a long way with me.
  4. It could also be that Gill passed. I don't know how likely that is, but it is possible that he wants to finish what he's started and doesn't feel ready to take on the Nebraska program given where he is now.
  5. I'm behind anyone that TO hires. I'm no expert on coaching and my personal preference is to give Gill a shot at the job, but I'm fine with Pelini as well. I like the guy even more since he told the LSU players that the NU position was his "dream job" BEFORE their game and they went out and played hard to give him a great send off. It's obvious that no matter where Pelini goes he inspires his players and we desperately need that.
  6. I don't think that TO wanted another "hired gun", somebody who would bolt for another job in college or the NFL when things start going really well. He mentioned consistency being important, especially going forward. Let's face it, the NU head coach hasn't really set any records for highest pay, so there has to be something else to keep them in Lincoln. I also don't see how BP would be Frank Solich revisited, but I suppose there will be naysayers no matter who is picked. That's not a provocative question, it's idiotic. Four years ago Arkansas was crazy about Houston Nutt, would that have made him a great pick for us? Gill is my first choice for the job but I will respect TO's decision. Exactly who are you accusing of being racist here? TO (who by all accounts loves Gill like a son)? Pearlman? The whole state of Nebraska?
  7. This thread is (mostly) great (take the bickering and TO bashing elsewhere, I don't care who started it just stop)! Love reading all the stories from those who have had the privilege.
  8. I'm behind whoever TO decides is the best fit. I wasn't behind Callahan because he was never the right fit. No matter what happens the new guy will have my support from the get go. XMK2CATX1, stay safe.
  9. On top of all that, he turned us down before, why would he want to come now? He also turned down $2.4 mil per year to stay at Arkansas, and it's been said that TO wants to keep the salary for our coach closer to $1 mil than $2 mil.
  10. Continuity in staff has been mentioned as an issue going forward, and I agree that can be a big problem in terms of recruiting. On the other hand with the expected return of the walk-on program and in-state recruiting I think we'll see an influx of talent that Callahan was ignoring. These will be people that WANT to be Huskers and won't complain about the cold weather or the lack of whatever in Lincoln. The walk-on program has given the team a lot of its heart and soul in the past and I think that will be a big help. This time we have TO looking for the right guy, and he'll no doubt find him. So I expect continuity will not be much of an issue once we start rolling again.
  11. No question, TO should've stayed on another 10 years. He'd just be retiring now.
  12. I've never been a fan of Callahan, it didn't matter whether he won or lost he was never a good fit. From the beginning my skepticism was met with "winning changes everything", but even when the team won games it didn't make me think that Callahan was the right guy. All the comments he made, all the stories about how he treated the players that first year, and the fact that they took the 11th ranked defense in the country and made it into the 99th ranked defense just reinforced my opinion of him. I'm relieved that the Callahan tenure is over and finally excited and optimistic for the future. I have faith that even though Tom Osborne is partially responsible for this mess that he is also the right man to choose the coach that will start the healing process. And that process has less to do with wins and losses than it has to do with the identity of Nebraska football. So I guess I'm a "Callahan hater", but I can't help feeling sorry for the guy, even as he walks away with his $3 mil.
  13. This whole "new coaching staff" incident is so ridiculous. Obviously from T.O.'s perspective the current coaching staff IS new.
  14. Every time I've looked (mostly for Husker games, but some other Big 12 matchups as well) the football games are the same on all FSN channels nationwide. Though once out here in LA they cut away from a tied up Husker game last year to go to a soccer pregame show.
  15. If Callahan "resigns" then Osborne will not have been wrong. Not saying that will happen, just pointing out.
  16. The only thing I can think of is that they want to try and spin it as though he's stepping down of his own volition rather than being fired so they can tell that to the recruits. If he's fired it may look to some recruits like we fire coaches so often (even mid season) that there wouldn't be any continuity during their years here. Can I be his second? I think I have a samurai sword around here somewhere...I know there's one at your place Hack
  17. Congrats to T.O.! A very fitting honor for a legendary coach and a great man!
  18. Yeah, ditto, both our cars have Husker plate holders out here in La La Land. I would never take them off!!
  19. I don't think that's true, I think most fans have been putting up with him from the start. I know I've never liked the guy, and when people said "winning cures everything", I knew that wouldn't be true. All the stories about how he treated former players, players wanting to quit the team, and his idiotic public statements told me all I needed to know. I'll always pull for the Huskers, but if I don't like the coach I won't pretend that I do.
  20. I'm not a Callahan supporter, but with Pederson gone I hope that things will calm down for a while. T.O. is running the athletic department now and it's time to let him evaluate and do his thing.
  21. I don't think we'll see many more games on TV this year. The CU game is pretty much a foregone conclusion (don't think they can cancel that one), but I don't even think the others will be on PPV. If I'm right it will be something of a blessing, because I too have to watch.
  22. But our new coach could, if they are decent.
  23. Dude, it's an internet forum. Take it or leave it, the guy is just sharing his info, if you don't believe it just move on.
