  1. We owe Pelini a lot less than he owes us. We gave him far more than his ability, experience, and character deserved.Yeah, I guess turning around a bad team, no cheating, graduating players, having players love him doesn't deserve a simple thanks or good luck. Or at least not a ripping. I guessing you don't follow Scott Shanle on twitter You mean the Scott Shanle who never played for Pelini? Yes and I do follow nate gerry, michael rose, valentine, finnin, Rex Burkhead, etc....... who actually played for him and all said Pelini was the best coach they've ever had.
  2. Exactly! So well said. Contrast what Bo has said publicly (nothing) to what the administration has said: Shawn Eichorst gave every opportunity for Bo to make a classy, cordial exit. Bo declined in the way that only Bo could. Those were eichort's public words. Bo's public words were nothing like this. As I expect eichort's private words would also be nothing like this.
  3. Nebraska didn't go after the best (or even close) HC so why would you think riley would? Warren may be as good of a coach as riley has ever hired. There isn't exactly a "Mike Riley coaching tree" that everyone wants to pluck from.

  5. Agreed, Gill-Frost would at least help unite the fans. And for those that want to rip Gill, he has led 2 teams to some record seasons. Riley won't last 3 years. Nebraskans have no reason to back (other than being the HC) or believe in him. He is conceivably just collecting a bigger paycheck for he and his buddies before retiring back to Oregon.
  6. I know several staffers (whom I shall not throw under the bus) that say the same thing about Eichorst. Backhanded slimeball lawyer that doesn't talk to anyone. Everyone should thank Bo for turning the program back in the right direction from the pederson-callahan debacle instead of bashing him. The OWH had it out for Bo since he called out chatelain for negative reporting of a 19 year old. The easily media-influenced fans fell in with bashing and it gradually snowballed. Bo should have played the media and fans better, he definitely stoked his own fire. If he was more tactful, he could have had the fans on his side and against the OWH. Anyway, now we are in what will be the eichorst-riley debacle. Anyone who thinks Mike Riley will lead us to championships is just fooling yourself. We won't be Nebraska until they (and likely Perlman) are gone. The start of another downturn for NE. Hopefully this one will only last a couple of years. I will probably be called names for saying this but Good Luck Bo. I hope you and your family find happiness and are treated better than you have been treated here.
  7. If he "recruits well" and "coaches up" then why didn't he win? This says that he gets good players and coaches them to be better players. Those are the 2 keys to winning but he didn't win. If you are not winning, there is no way you are recruiting and coaching well.
  8. In that case he'll last a hell of a lot longer than you likely will on this board. Why am I being targeted here. I'm just expressing my opinion. I'm sorry you don't like it. I've read other post's worse than mine!! The kool-aid drinkers will call you names if you don't join the Eichorst-Riley cult.
  9. Good Point. Maybe just less hope now than ever?
  10. ...and that should be completely unacceptable If that happens. 9 wins (or more) next year. NO EXCUSES.It is just as likely for Bo to get us 7 wins next season. Losses: BYU with their freak QB back, Miami, Mich St, Wisconsin, Minny, NW or Iowa.Do I expect it to happen? No I sure don't but it isn't impossible without Gregory or Ameer on our roster Then why not fire Bo next year? Nebraska didn't exactly go out and get the best coach with Riley. By far imo. What's Nebraska even striving for anymore? No blowout losses? We wants wins and Riley better produce else it's next man up in 3 years. So you know you have an employee who can't get it done at work right? Do you let him continue to do subpar work or take a flier on a guy you think (SE) is much better at the job? Easy answer from a business perspective which is what SE views this asActually, you don't take a flier. You do everything you can to make sure you get the best candidate for the job.#Movinggoalposts #Loweredexpecyations Where have expectations been lowered? I expect championships. However you can't give a guy 3 years to do it when you gave the previous guy 7. Not to mention the difference in personality types. In coaching a guy deserves 5 years IMODifferent situation. Bo had to do a pretty big rebuild job. This guy doesn't. The team has been winning consistently, his job is much easier than Bo's was. The expectations increase. Shawn said it was about championship football, not me. Bo faired to meet his championship expectations, if the new guy does the same, he should be sitting next to Bo in the unemployment line. And for those who are speculating what Bo would do with next years schedule, what does it matter? He's no longer our coach, we don't know, it doesn't matter. Bo had a rebuild job? He inherited one of the most talented Ds we have seen in a few decades. You wanna talk complete rebuilds look at what Callahan was left with when he arrived. THAT is a complete rebuild. Also with as mentally weak as our team has been in big games for a few years it might be more of a rebuild than you think. Considering this is going to be a New system entirely. Expecting us to surpass everything Bo could accomplish in 7 years in a New HCs first year is completely stupid Bo inherited over a 5-7 team. For Nebraska, I'd say thats a rebuild. Riley is inheriting a 9-10 win team.
  11. so you were ok with Bo's 9 wins, but anything less than 11 and a championship is reason for termination? you f'in up every thread with nonsense is starting to get old - please at least tell me you're trolling and not serious with most of this 9~10 wins wasn't good enough for Bo. Are we changing the standards now? Bo had to rebuild this program as a first time head coach. The new guy doesn't have to rebuild, he has to change some things and has about 15years head coaching experience. The schedule is even more beneficial next year than it was this. the talent is there. If this guy is really as elite as Shawn makes him out to be, then no, I'm not kidding. 11 wins should be his basement. BYU is much better than FAU Miami isn't starting a true fresh QB next season. The rest of the schedule is the same. Hopefully home field gives us the edge in our bigger games in conference So are you saying that you are ok with losing to BYU?
  12. Maybe they watched OSU lose to Eastern Washington and Sacramento State. I watch more college football than anyone I know. I certainly knew Mike Riley and immediately said "WTF?!, why would we hire him". Expecting someone who hasn't had success in 20 years to all of the sudden have success seems more ignorant to me.
  13. It seems that an even greater rift is occurring in Huskerland. There was a Bo-leaver vs Bo-liever split but this hire seems to have made the division even wider. There appear to be 3 general groups: 1. Kool-aid/eternal optimist group. They believe that this is a good hire and the future is bright. Their main argument is that he did not have the resources at OSU that he will at NU. Or they just hated Bo and MR is a "nice guy". 2. "Wait and See" (probably the biggest group). They want Dear Old Nebraska U to succeed. Maybe don't know a lot about MR, uncertain but hoping for the best. 3. Downgrade hire. I fall into this group. The reason we are unhappy is because we care about Nebraska and feel this hire sets us back 5 years (1-3 until he's gone, another 1-3 to turn it back around) just to get back to where we are now. I am highly confident that this will be the case. I therefore have very little hope for the next few years. That is depressing. Maybe he will prove me wrong. But I said the same thing the day BC was hired and it was an extremely long and painful 4 years. Whichever group you fall, this could be considered a bad hire simply b/c of the division created. SE could have united HuskerNation with a different hire: 1. A proven successful coach, Jon Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, even Jerry Kill, Lance Leipold. Everyone would see a history of success and have hopes for the program. Riley obviously does not have a history of success. 2. A Nebraska tie. Turner Gill or Scott Frost. Each would have questions; Gill success at Buffalo and Liberty but not at Kansas, Frost inexperience. But both hires would have the full fan base behind them, some would be unsure but all would be excited to see the future. Riley has no connection to NE. 3. Nebraska "style". Paul Johnson, Troy Calhoun, Jerry Kill would have a lot of Husker fans remembering the dominant option/power running years. Riley's west coast offense will not peak interest a significant group of Huskers. I think Riley already has a big group with serious doubts and will quickly lose the fan base with a loss to an inferior team. The other hires would have more backing and longer leashes. He must have immediate success to get everyone to believe in him. We have a lot of talent returning so should not take a step back. A new coach/system would be another excuse. Good coaches know how to best use their talent. Reasons I'm not optimistic: Mike Riley had 14 years at OSU to change the program. He brought a bad team to a mediocre team but not above that. Making excuses for having a bad team is very disappointing. Good coaches will find a way to win and improve the program, WITHOUT EXCUSES. There are many cases of good coaches lifting bad programs to good programs (KSU, Mizzou, TCU, Miami, FSU, Baylor, Boise State, etc...). MR never improved the program to above mediocre, never increased the interest, the coaching, the recruiting. He has never even won his division. Heck, Dennis Erickson coached Riley's players to more success than MR. MR coached the San Diego Charger to their WORST RECORD IN FRANCHISE HISTORY! Good coaches simply do not do that. The Chargers do not have less resources than all other NFL teams. He just has a long history of non-success. Why would anyone have confidence in SE to know football coaching? He has never hired a football coach. He never coached football. He didn't play in the NFL. Where is all of this football knowledge you speak of? He played at UW-Whitewater so he must know everything? All he has done in regards to football coaches is extend the contract of Al Golden, who went 6-6 this year with the Miami Hurricanes. And many Miami fans would like to see gone but it's more difficult b/c of his contract that SI extended. SE is a lawyer with no previous ties or cares for Nebraska. I repeat, he is a lawyer.
  14. Yeah, shame on someone for actually being honest.
  15. Yeah, Bo ran a dirty program, didn't graduate anyone, his players hated him. Sure glad he's gone.
  16. Wouldn't an "amazing" coach actually win.
  17. You gotta be fricking kidding me! Horrible hire, never even won his division. Did he EVER turn OSU into anything since 1997! Humongous downgrade! I think nice guy but bad coach. Eichorst must go now! His BEST season was 4 losses, Pelinis WORST season was 4 losses! His records: 3-8 5-6 8-5 7-5 5-6 10-4 9-4 9-4 8-5 5-7 3-9 9-4 7-6 5-7
  18. He is a dirty cheat. That would be Nebraska selling out all values and morals, "the Nebraska way". You wanna win at all costs? "In the morning he would read the Bible with another coach. Then, in the afternoon, he would go out and cheat kids who had probably saved up money from mowing lawns to buy those raffle tickets. That's Jim Tressel." http://www.si.com/more-sports/2011/05/30/jim-tressel I guess Tommy Armstrong could drive around in a new Jaguar though
  19. McElwain is a good guy and has done a GREAT job at CSU. A bit of a question mark like almost everyone else on the rumor list.
  20. We knew virtually nothing about him except that he really had not done a lot. I guess a lot of people will hold off until they see who he hires. I have lost all respect for someone that would send that email to the players telling them he fired their coach. And the "they were out of town" excuse is a cop-out. He could have waited until Monday when they were back. The firing was not so urgent to do on Saturday night. Slimy Shawn is a gutless, classless, coward IMHO.
  21. Agreed, THANKS BO! He got a bad deal getting screwed by the Big12 refs, the stupid omaha world herald has had it out for him ever since he was actually honest in calling out loser dirk chatelain (haven't read one of his articles since, or shatel, their negative reporting reminds me of a dirty political campaign), switching conferences playing all new teams with the incorrect linebacker personel. Wish you would have modified the scheme a little better to stop wisconsin, and didn't stoke your own fire as much on the sidelines... Good memories, comebacks, hail mary, team jack, alternate uniforms, backing the players and keeping them straight. I think we had a really bright outlook for next year, but we'll never know how you would have done. Good Luck Bo Pelini, I'll be rooting for you wherever you go. Just like I root for Ohio and Liberty now.
  22. Bo was close but didn't qute get it done. Slimy Shawn put out a silent feeler saying he needed a little better Bo. Bill Cowher responed "I have a better jaw, better scowl, more hardnosed, and instead of swinging a hat at a ref, I will slap a copy of a printed formation right in his front pocket." We would like to introduce Bill Cowher as the next coach at Nebraska.
  23. Mullen would be huge downgrade. His records are 5-7, 9-4, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 10-2. One good year this year with likely big downfall next year. Richt is known for having as good of talent as anyone in the country but they underperform and can never win the big one. Like Bo but with even more highly regarded talent. I like Richt but he's no better than Bo. Both of those would be extremely underwhelming.
