  1. You're out of line. If you didn't understand me at first (and I can own some of that for writing a short post), you certainly do by now, but you've still opted to insult me personally. That's board pollution.
  2. This isn't that complicated, man. All I was expressing was that, given we were going to hire Coach Frost anyway, I figured we just wasted the previous three years. If you're bent out of shape over that thought, to the extent you're dissecting it and using terms like "cross purposes" that make no sense to me, I think you could use a break from this board.
  3. Lastly, here's the offensive one (with the numbers given being the average category z-score average across four categories (passing, rushing, scoring, and total offensive): Rank Team Average Z-score Avg. across 4 "O" categories 1 Ohio State 1.69 2 Memphis 1.67 3 Texas Tech 1.62 4 Houston 1.60 5 UCF 1.49 6 Penn State 1.37 7 Alabama 1.33 8 Appalachian State 1.30 9 Boise State 1.12 10 Oklahoma 1.01 11 Syracuse 0.99 12 West Virginia 0.98 13 Utah State 0.93 14 Oregon 0.92 15 Georgia 0.87 16 Toledo 0.87 17 Oklahoma State 0.87 18 Boston College 0.86 19 North Texas 0.83 20 Clemson 0.80 21 Mississippi 0.78 22 Texas A&M 0.77 23 Colorado 0.73 24 Hawai'i 0.71 25 Virginia Tech 0.70 26 Missouri 0.69 27 Mississippi State 0.64 28 Washington State 0.59 29 Coastal Carolina 0.58 30 Miami (Florida) 0.55 31 Arizona 0.52 32 Michigan 0.43 33 Baylor 0.42 34 Nevada 0.41 35 South Carolina 0.40 36 Western Michigan 0.40 37 UAB 0.39 38 Fresno State 0.39 39 Louisiana Tech 0.39 40 Wisconsin 0.38 41 Southern Mississippi 0.38 42 Buffalo 0.38 43 Florida Atlantic 0.36 44 Cincinnati 0.33 45 Kentucky 0.33 46 Wake Forest 0.32 47 Navy 0.30 48 New Mexico 0.28 49 Duke 0.24 50 North Carolina State 0.20 51 Oregon State 0.20 52 Virginia 0.19 53 South Florida 0.17 54 Purdue 0.16 55 TCU 0.15 56 UNLV 0.13 57 Louisiana-Lafayette 0.10 58 Troy 0.08 59 Florida 0.07 60 Georgia Tech 0.04 61 Arkansas State 0.03 62 Maryland 0.02 63 Air Force -0.01 64 Notre Dame -0.02 65 Auburn -0.02 66 Massachusetts -0.02 67 Eastern Michigan -0.04 68 Florida International -0.08 69 Indiana -0.08 70 Army -0.09 71 Texas -0.11 72 Tennessee -0.14 73 Connecticut -0.15 74 Washington -0.15 75 Liberty -0.21 76 Ohio -0.21 77 California -0.21 78 Northwestern -0.23 79 Louisiana-Monroe -0.24 80 Illinois -0.25 81 Ball State -0.29 82 East Carolina -0.31 83 Old Dominion -0.31 84 Kent State -0.33 85 Michigan State -0.34 86 Arizona State -0.36 87 Iowa -0.36 88 Pittsburgh -0.38 89 Tulsa -0.39 90 Vanderbilt -0.41 91 Kansas -0.42 92 Rice -0.43 93 Marshall -0.44 94 South Alabama -0.45 95 North Carolina -0.46 96 Stanford -0.46 97 Georgia Southern -0.46 98 Utah -0.49 99 Middle Tennessee -0.51 100 LSU -0.52 101 Colorado State -0.57 102 Tulane -0.57 103 USC -0.59 104 Arkansas -0.60 105 Akron -0.61 106 Western Kentucky -0.61 107 Charlotte -0.63 108 San Diego State -0.63 109 Bowling Green -0.66 110 Minnesota -0.69 111 Florida State -0.71 112 Nebraska -0.71 113 BYU -0.75 114 Temple -0.75 115 Texas State -0.84 116 Kansas State -0.89 117 Georgia State -0.96 118 Iowa State -0.99 119 UCLA -1.00 120 Miami (Ohio) -1.05 121 Wyoming -1.08 122 SMU -1.10 123 San Jose State -1.19 124 Louisville -1.27 125 Rutgers -1.33 126 UTEP -1.35 127 UTSA -1.44 128 Central Michigan -1.45 129 New Mexico State -1.46 130 Northern Illinois -1.58

  6. The numbers below are percentile ratings for team stats, relative to those for all 130 FBS teams counting all games played through last weekend. Games against lower division opponents have been included for now. Once we have more data, I'll prune those out and maybe even do this for just conference games (played by all FBS teams). If I was to average all the percentile averages for all the individual (nine) categories, NU's stats are 25th percentile overall and Purdue's are 49th. passing defense completions per game: 12 to 20 (after 2 and now 3 games, respectively, for the good guys) with PU posting 21 (after having played four games) percentage: 13 to 19, 38 yards per attempt: 62 to 66, 33 touchdowns per game: 49 to 43, 65 passer rating: 42 to 46, 51 yards per game: 44 to 49, 17 passing offense: completions per game: 47 to 35, 76 percentage: 83 to 68, 65 yards per attempt: 42 to 18, 69 touchdowns per game: 34 to 17, 89 passer rating: 44 to 22, 73 yards per game: 31 to 15, 83 rushing defense yards per carry: 87 to 49, 68 touchdowns per game: 48 to 15, 39 yards per game: 85 to 51, 65 rushing offense yards per carry: 65 to 36, 77 touchdowns per game: 31 to 25, 22 yards per game: 87 to 51, 38 scoring defense touchdowns per game: 40 to 14, 59 points per game: 36 to 9, 49 scoring offense touchdowns per game: 22 to 11, 27 points per game: 19 to 9, 35 total defense yards per play: 77 to 58, 45 yards per game: 73 to 50, 33 plays per game: 47 to 36, 26 total offense yards per play: 46 to 18, 85 yards per game: 66 to 19, 78 plays per game: 86 to 46, 38 turnover margin fumbles gained per game: 35 to 21, 6 interceptions gained per game: 25 to 33, 88 turnovers gained per game: 22 to 19, 45 fumbles lost per game: 3 to 5, 21 interceptions lost per game: 9 to 11, 32 turnovers lost per game: 1 to 3, 19 turnover margin per game: 2 to 3, 25
  7. You're just making another point without acknowledging mine. I don't know why people on here are so dead set on arguing over nothing.
  8. This is a hindsight thing. I think most, if not all, of us would agree we may as well have taken a chance on Coach Frost over Riley at that point (was the point).
  9. I think you can make a better case that we did that with Bo. I'm still more inclined to believe we hired Coach Frost too late.
  10. It's never wrong to believe in your team. Just don't bet on them when you don't have many supporting facts. We're not as bad as we looked (nobody could be?) and they're not as good as they looked. Nobody expected us to be more competitive in the B1G than we have been overnight. I don't see why Husker fans need to turn on each other over it.
  11. I'm sure we'd agree that still applies. I'm not sure I hated Meecheegan in 1986 but I know I hated seeing Iowans wearing the maize and blue following our Fiesta Bowl (?) loss to them. If it hadn't been for Steve Taylor lightening the mood at the end, I suppose it would be more clear cut. Regardless, we need to learn to hate again. I know I have enough to share where college football is concerned.

  15. We all know there's not much of a sample size to be had at this point. Schedule strength is different. One team has had the same QB for the most part, insofar as I'm aware (only having watched our B1G home field favorites* against Notre Dame this season). I'm going to share the percentiles with more of a focus this time around since it seemed like some found the last post to be a bit much. I'll just respond with the additional data so no one post, with the Nebraska-focused stuff, is quite so gigantic. I suppose I'll run the risk of someone claiming I'm just trying to pad my post count now but here it go... passing defense completions per game: 1 to 12 (after 1 and now 2 games, respectively, for the good guys) with the skunkbears posting 73 (after having played three, I believe) percentage: 15 to 13, 78 yards per attempt: 47 to 62, 88 touchdowns per game: 6 to 49, 57 passer rating: 26 to 42, 81 yards per game: 4 to 44, 85 passing offense: completions per game: 47 to 47, 34 percentage: 71 to 83, 91 yards per attempt: 58 to 42, 72 touchdowns per game: 20 to 34, 67 passer rating: 45 to 44, 85 yards per game: 47 to 31, 33 rushing defense yards per carry: 97 to 87, 79 touchdowns per game: 64 to 48, 82 yards per game: 94 to 85, 72 rushing offense yards per carry: 85 to 65, 68 touchdowns per game: 82 to 31, 50 yards per game: 97 to 87, 51 scoring defense touchdowns per game: 26 to 40, 80 points per game: 20 to 36, 82 scoring offense touchdowns per game: 44 to 22, 69 points per game: 34 to 19, 65 total defense yards per play: 71 to 77, 91 yards per game: 40 to 73, 88 plays per game: 3 to 47, 51 total offense yards per play: 73 to 46, 71 yards per game: 91 to 66, 36 plays per game: 95 to 86, 5 (so meatchicken apparently has gone three and out a lot?) turnover margin fumbles gained per game: 12 to 35, 9 (so there's one good bit of news here, at least) interceptions gained per game: 8 to 25, 56 turnovers gained per game: 4 to 22, 22 fumbles lost per game: 1 to 3, 77 interceptions lost per game: 34 to 9, 59 turnovers lost per game: 3 to 1, 74 turnover margin per game: 1 to 2, 44 * - If all you know is that it's BS the Corn have to travel to a whore named Ann Arbor for a third time before getting a second game in Lincoln, you might be interested to know that these guys in the winged helmets (originally worn at Princeton) went decades at a time hosting the likes of Indiana and Michigan State. Given there is such a thing as home field advantage, it puts certain claims on the record books into perspective. Let's remember, too, that people first think of prison when they hear the name of the stadium Tommy Armstrong won in as a true freshman...
  16. Thanks, JJ. It really only felt personal when that dude had to have more than one go at me. I even got some constructive criticism, via direct message, as to what might be more easily digested along the lines of what I share (so it's not like the board really ever lets me down overall). p.s. - I think yours was probably the funniest response, too. I forgot how goofy that dude from Styx looks is part of it (though it's largely just a matter of the times, to be fair to him).
  17. I'll give people (and gave you) the benefit of the doubt once. If you had been funny even once, I might even have given you an extra pass. That you've now decided to judge me over an unpleasant exchange you set the tone for leaves no doubt in my mind you're not worth any more time.
  18. It doesn't seem like a lot to ask from anybody, let alone people as nice as Nebraskans (but I guess we're a national program again so that's the positive I'll take from this thread). I appreciate the reasonable and considerate response all the same.
  19. There's a name for people whose idea of fun is insulting strangers and not owning up.
  20. I'm used to receiving a few rude/ignorant responses to my stats posts but this may be the first time anyone hasn't been able to leave just one (virtual) flaming bag of crap.
  21. I appreciate the concern over my time but this actually doesn't take much since I set up my spreadsheets to copy and paste into a number of years ago. I did it to calculate spreads and I've made money a couple of seasons (though I've mainly lost - not the math's fault, of course). There were some posters here who helped me improve it, too, so it was worthwhile to share for more than the usual reason. If it bothers some of you, please feel free to ignore it. I particularly like having whole seasons' worth of data to compare our past coaches, though. E.g., here's my last stats post from the end of the Riley era: 2017-18 Final Stats Post
  22. It's as ridiculous as pre-season rankings but it's something to do. I calculate z-scores and convert them to percentiles for all the stats I can from nine categories: passing defense and offense; rushing defense and offense; scoring defense and offense; total defense and offense; and turnover margin. The numbers in the first three lists below are averages of all the stats for the categories I give details for below (the three lists which focus on good old Nebraska U). Once we have enough data, I'll prune all games that weren't played between conference teams from the FBS statistics all teams are compared to (via calculation of the z-scores). Sometimes I just take all the games not played against other FBS teams out but we all know not all FBS conferences are created equal either. Rank Team overall 1 Toledo 88.57 2 Ohio State 83.31 3 Boise State 81.03 4 Boston College 80.95 5 Mississippi State 80.32 6 Oklahoma State 79.88 7 Alabama 75.65 8 Georgia 75.34 9 TCU 75.08 10 Missouri 23. I believe it was against Colorado that Tommie Frazier threw that strike while in the grasp of an opposing player. I don't know how to quickly find such things but I assume most of us (beyond a certain age) can remember...
  24. I am not inclined to click either. I remember there being the slightest of silver linings in that our offense didn't pack it in that day. It could have been even worse. My favorite Colorado game featured Brook Berringer going off. The ABC halftime show that day was all about the potent Colorado offense, which had maybe 3 points on the day by that point?
