  1. Good input folks. Thanks for all the comments. I admit I was as shocked as everyone with the Riley hire. I looked at his record and scratched my head. I wanted Bo gone at halftime of the Wisconsin game. For me, it was painful to watch that game. I shut it off in the 3Rd quarter. I hate to see my Huskers lose, but i hate even more the image of our coach stopmping around the sidelines screaming at players, refs, and asst. coaches. The fact that after every flag or big play the cameras were trained on Pelini, waiting for the meltdown. I mentioned my age because its important that I grew up watching a coach and the entire program conduct themselves with dignity and respect. I think that had a lot to do with how successful our program was in general. Other teams wanted to be like Nebraska, other fans gushed about their experience at Memorial Stadium, we were the standard. A program tends to take on the attitude of its leaders. The last 15 years has been tough and I think as a fanbase we have sort of forgotten what makes this place so special. I'm excited about what Mike Riley brings to us and why I think SE went after him. He is the antithesis of the last 2 coaches and he does with less. We have the money to bring in a quality staff that will develop underappreciated talent and turn them into great athletes. If that happens then we have replicated the formula that Tom Osborne mastered and that we as fans were so proud of. I dont expect to win every game or get a trophy every year, but if we can be competitive and do it with class, I will be a happy Husker. Heres hoping Shawn got it right.
  2. Nice. Ok that's funny. And fyi, I'm a woman.
  3. I am a Nebraska Cornhusker Fan, like all of you. I am 40 years old, so I wasn't around for most of the Devaney era. I grew up watching the Huskers win, and watching Tom Osborne on the sidelines. This is what I know about being a fan. You cheer for your team, you applaud your opponents and you welcome their fans at your tailgate. You show pride in the program and players because we are run clean and consistently churn out educated and equipped young men. You comiserate with other Husker fans, win or lose, and you always, always speak intelligently about college football in general. Heres what I don't know. WTF happened to that??? All the negativity surrounding the new coach, the players, the Administration, all the angst and downright rude and classless posts I've seen overy the last few days from supposed Husker fans, it sickens me! There will always be those unhappy with the team on the field or the sidelines or the happenings in South Stadium. But I feel like a lot of our so-called fans need to be reminded of how Nebraska fans behave. We conduct ourselves with dignity, respect and pride. Nebraska tradition is not just about winning and titles, it is about a great fanbase as well. Fans that sell out every home game, travel to away games and bowl games, treat others with respect and take deep pride in that. Nebraska fans are known as the greatest fans in college football. I wish we would act like it. Please take a moment to consider this before you post that comment about how our new coaching staff will fail, about how the adminitiation should all be fired or about how we are going to suck in the next 5 years. At the end of the day the team plays for us, the recruits come for the fans and atmosphere and to be part of something special. Please don't ruin that for the rest of us!
  4. I would also remind those of you who have been blowing up this board with anti-bo messages, w/l records do not matter, it's quality of those wins/losses that matter. Having said that...OMFG! What just happened??????
  5. After careful consideration (and banging my head on my desk a dozen times) I have 3 very thoughtful, very plausible theories to this hire. 1. Mike Riley will hire Scott Frost as his OC/AHC and exit within 3-4 years leaving Scott with his dream job and a stacked cupboard. (could be several struggling seasons until then). 2. Eichorst looked at the list of requirements given to him by HP and the boosters and said, OK, you want to make me fire a 9 win coach? this guy has everything on your list, good luck with that and FU! 3. Eichorst is still in leagues with Wisconsin and secretly hopes we plummet into the abyss that is/was Nebraska mediocrity/bottom of the barrel. Leaves in 2 years (before we fire this new guy) and takes his place at the Throne in Madison post Alvarez.
  6. Um, I'm going to echo Bussey on this *scratches head* WTF???????
  7. We shall see. I'm scared of what this thread looks like in the morning. You guys are already getting weird and it's not even midnight yet.
  8. Heard a new name. Rod Carey from Northern Illinois. Thoughts? Comments? Sock?
  9. If the plane has landed then we should have presser in the am. Go to bed and dream of the Huskers winning a title with Vest and Frost at the helm.
  10. I agree with you ladyhawke. I look at some of the posts and comments though and can't help to think it's no wonder these players have the us against them mentality. One poster said Tommie Armstrong is the worst QB since Joe Dailey. Now why do you have to insult the kid? I admit I've been down on specific players, I just dont put it out there. Sometimes we forget that everyone can see what we post online and those comments can be hurtful to these kids. Here's hoping we can mend the wounds from the past 7 years and move forward with this program and these student athletes.
  11. If we did offer BB and he turned us down that would look really bad for SE. Remember when Houston Nutt turned us down? We have a bad rep with them Hogs.
  12. Maybe. Most of the tweets I saw talked about a man with integrity who taught them a lot about life. Some were still angry at the AD, yes. But, I want to give the benefit of the doubt here. It was the tone of the tweets that got me. Like I said, maybe reading more into it than there is. Seems like the players are angry (which I don't blame them) but it seems to be directed at Administration, Media and Fans. Again, the us vs. them mentality that can be so damaging to the program.
  13. I really hope Bo took the high road. Both Muschamp's and Hoke's comments to the school and players were all class and integrity. I wish Bo had done something classy like that too. It's difficult to gleen the message from the meeting based on the player tweets however, I got the unmistakable impression that once again it was, us against them, they are the bad guys, they'll be sorry...blah blah blah. Maybe I'm just reading into it, and I'm really trying not to be judgemental but that is hard to do when the negativity thought surrounds Bo and his player continues to materialize. ***sigh***
  14. I too have been frustrated reading many of the comments from B1G as well nationally on ESPN. The other thing that really yanks my chain is "nobody wants to go to Nebraska, it's cold and in the middle of nowhere. why go there when you can got to a nice sunny warm climate like Florida or UCLA". My response is always the same. A top recruit (and coaches too) want to go where they have an opportunity to win and compete for a championship. Think Tommie Frazier came to Nebraska for the weather? Hell no! The other thing is that Nebraska doesn't have to rely on a stable of 4 and 5 star recruits. We take good athletes and make them great. We open our arms to our homegrown boys and make them champions. All those things are what makes this program great. We have to get back to that mindset, people from the outside don't appreciate it, nor do they understand.
  15. We should not be throwing stones. Not throwing stones. Just makes me raise my eyebrows. There was more to it than tatoos, if you don't think that whats his bucket running back was not on the payroll of their boosters.... At any rate, I hope the new word is true and he is no longer on the list. That will make it all a moot point.
  16. I have heard a lot of noise about Tressel, though I'm really uncomfortable with it. Having an untarnished reputation like NU has, why would we bring someone with NCAA violations on his record. He knowlingly ignored it when boosters paid his players. Is that the kind of coach we want here? Yes, I'm sure he is a good coach, but his ethics are questionable, and that just won't do at Nebraska.
