  1. I agree that the hit on Sutton was definitely a cheap shot but are you referring to the no call on the punt play as being the second cheap shot? If you are, look at the replay, the BYU player was blocked by a NU player which caused him to slide into the punter. That's why no call was made. It was too bad that it resulted in an injury though regardless of how it happened.
  2. Hey Buffsfan, how did that trip to the islands work out for you? Maybe you should worry about your team. Since your state legalized pot, with the epicenter being in Boulder I believe your days of fielding anything but a JV team is over and done.
  3. Glory...as BYU fans we get this on every board we visit. We (well most of us) don't judge a fan base by a few religious bigots but thank you for your comments. They're true and timly.
  4. Taysom Hill. He is the lynch pin holding that team together. Look at the skid they went on last year when he went down. You're correct. When healthy, Taysom is one of the best QB's in the country, which we saw last year with him starting to appear in the national Heisman discussions after game 4. He would be a huge loss to any team, not just BYU. However, there were a bunch of other injuries last year that exacerbated his loss. Also, last year's backup QB had actually moved on and intended to leave football. The coaches actually had to convince him to return for 2014, as QB depth was poor. This year, though the backups are freshmen, one was a blue chip recruit, and the next two are sons of former NFL players (Merrill Hoge and Koy Detmer). Still a better situation than a guy who had to be begged to not quit football. Out of curiousity, because I'm lazy and don't want to look it up. Did the SR. Hoge and Dettmer attend BYU? Are they both Mormon? Honestly asking out of curiousity how they landed these two kids... Neither are Mormon or played at BYU. How does a Nebraska fan not know what school Koy Detmer went to? Hoge is Mormon. His dad attended Idaho State I believe. Coy Detmers uncle Ty converted while at BYU but I don't believe Coy converted at CU.
  5. which BYU fans have you 'met'? A few people posting on a fan message board behind false names? If that' all you've met that's a great reason to hate them all.
  6. This is a good point 1995. Kellen Huston is now 33ish would be my guess, so he is probably not with the team anymore. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Are you saying it was OK knock someone out 10 years ago and now its frowned upon? Pretty sure he's saying it happened forever ago, and the player involved was already suspended, which has already been stated a dozen times. You're being willfully obtuse. Isn't the conversation about the integrity of the game? Integrity, or lack of it doesn't have an expiration date does it because if it does who sets the date and for how long? I think this suspension talk, either by BYU, NU, or Memphis State is distracting from the game.
  7. Some totally different team beat us badly. Not sure that helps BYU much. I could go find a video of BYU getting trounced, but why bother? Hey Look! Here is you losing....http://www.christiantoday.com/article/mormons.could.be.expelled.from.brigham.young.university.for.losing.faith/51217.htm Ouch.
  8. There's a thread in the politics & religion forum for serious talk about BYU fans' belief in Mormonism. Frankly I've always liked BYU's program. Steve Young is my favorite NFL quarterback of all time, and they've been a lot of fun to watch the last few years. Saying they're a top 15 program is quite a tough stretch, though. I could see top 25, maybe. Steve is one of my favorite BYU qb's and my favorite pro qb as well. Its interesting that when he was asked to tell what he thinks of Taysom Hill he described him as a better version of himself. That's saying something. I just wish Hill had the durability Young had in college.
  9. lol. Here are 19 programs that would come in before BYU in any list. And I'm not including the recent risers like Oregon, Wisconsin, Baylor, and Michigan St. Nebraska Michigan Ohio St Penn St Oklahoma Texas Alabama Auburn LSU Texas A&M Florida Georgia Tennessee Florida St Miami Clemson USC UCLA Notre Dame I'm sure a big reason BYU isn't included is due to religious bigotry. And it has nothing to do with mainly playing in a conference that contained Colorado St, Air Force, SDSU, and Wyoming for the majority of the last 40 years. It should be. Their religion is a joke. Listen to a Mormon really explain what they believe and it's hard to listen without thinking "how are you not laughing at this?" Quite frankly, I could say the same about any religion, but that's beside the point. I'm not sure why BYU's affiliation with Mormonism got brought up in the first place. Because when bigoted fans have nothing better to say they always bring up things they have no knowledge or understanding of. 99% of the Husker fans don't fall into that category unlike some fan bases and I thank you for your class.
  10. Even if Nebraska is a program in transition I'm scared to death of this game for BYU. I'm also scared for the first game of the season but when it's against one of the all-time giants in college football in their stadium my trepidation is elevated. I just never know what to I'll see from either team in the first game.
  11. Sounds like what Jesus would do. You mean Joseph Smith, don't you? What's this crap got to do with the football game? Some fans on both sides need to grow up a lot. Talk football.
  12. I'm sorry the sample of BYU fans (whether from Utah or not) hasn't been very awe inspiring on this board. Please don't judge us all by what a few hosers on a message board says. The greatest percentage of us are very respectful. I hope you'll meet some of them visiting Lincoln Saturday.
  13. I believe this game is going to be a very interesting match-up. (Sorry for not following the suspensions, moral authority, or religious topics going after the first couple of comments). Looking at the two teams there are some important unknowns. How will Riley's first game in his new home go with the players already at NU? Will BYU's defense respond to having the head coach retake the reins like they have when he's worn the DC hat? How does BYU's players match up against NU's betters athletes? And how will Armstrong respond to the blitz packages BYU throws at him? I wish I could look into the future and see the answers because if I could I think I'd become a wealthy man. Since this is the first game of the season, and the game is in Lincoln I think the advantage, although I believe slight, has to be with the Huskers. Taysom Hill is coming off yet another season ending injury and even though from all accounts he is back 100% I think it remains to be see if he is in a game situation. He's a freak athlete but has the injury left a strong mental impression. If not, its going to be fun to watch him again. Our (BYU's) RB situation isn't as good as if Williams was out but we do have some talented RB's to fill in, none of his talent but as a group they'll fill in nicely. Brown will probably be our feature back with Carter and Hine (pronounced Heen-a) is a great athlete (he high jumped over 7 feet in high school). He's been returning kickoffs as well and has been a great weapon in that position. You've already read and heard about our tall receivers. Matthews is a known commodity to us. I wouldn't say he has blazing speed but for his size he moves very well and is a very good possession receiver. Nick Kurtz was a player we all looked forward to see last season but a preseason foot injury kept him sidelined for the season. We haven't been disappointed so far in fall practice but again I believe game experience will show if our anticipation was warranted. We have some 6'4" receivers who are new to the program who have received favorable reviews in camp also and we'll see how they do. I do worry about our receivers against your defensive backfield which I believe will have the speed advantage. If Hill gets time, and if your defense can't control the run well then I like our chances. Again, if I could see the future.... Good luck Huskers and fans. Its too bad that football, something that's fun and exciting, can bring out the worst in some fans from both sides and distract from the competition to come and focus on garbage that means nothing.
  14. Do you think that Riley having played BYU when he coached at Oregon St. gives us a bit of an edge? I'm more concerned that we have healthy players ready for our first game. Every time I open the paper or turn on the news we hear of another player who is out for weeks because of injuries they suffered during practice. Blah! I'm hoping for a Husker win but this is NOT going to be a walk in the park for us. Forgive me as a BYU fan that I'll talk football and not how powerful we are, or about suspensions or anything else but you have an excellent question. Having Riley coaching, because he has faced BYU and coach Mendenhall 3 times may help some but there's also the reverse side to that. BYU has faced Riley coached teams 3 times as well and will have as much of a feeling of how he likes to game plan as he'll know about BYU. One advantage that might be in BYU's favor will be that when he was coaching at Oregon State he had his own recruits playing in his system and had been in it for up to 5 years counting redshirts. He'll be coaching players now that he had no hand in recruiting and he'll be teaching a different system than these players were brought in for. I believe that NU has the advantage in player athleticism, strength, and speed overall. Sometimes that's enough to beat a team but sometimes it isn't about just the athleticism but about the team chemistry, the trust between team mates and coaches and the comfort in knowing and being comfortable in the offense and defense. As a BYU fan, I'd love to say we'll win 35-14 but as a realist I'd say the score is going to be much closer, like 21-17 and I have no idea who will be finishing with a 'W'. I hope both teams play well, and that no player for either team is injured.
  15. There seems to be a lot of Polynesians on the BYU roster. Any reason for this? When Lavell Edwards was coach he started recruiting Polynesians because it was very difficult to get African Americans to come to BYU back then. It's still hard but getting much easier. Polynesians are very strong, big, and athletic so he began to be one of the first college coaches to recruit them heavily. The LDS church is also very strong in the Polynesian community which makes recruiting them to BYU much easier.
  16. A couple of things you need to know about Bronco and the BYU program. The only time they ever announce a suspension is when they absolutely have to. The Takitaki suspension was announced because he was charged with a civil crime which is made public so there was no reason to withhold word of the suspension. Normally at BYU suspensions will be announced at or shortly before game time and the reason for the suspension isn't made known unless it is addressed by the player suspended. BYU, being a church owned university treats these things like many churches do, as a confidentiality. The players are free to reveal the reason but BYU won't. About the most you'll ever hear from the school is that a player was suspended for breaking team rules or for and Honor Code violation. Not having Bronco announce any suspensions for the BYU/NU game isn't any ploy on his part it's just the nature of the beast. Its been disgraceful how BYU has handled itself after the football team started the brawl because the Kewger players were mad because they just got beat by a Sun Belt team. Memphis announced many suspensions immediately and BYU didn't do a thing. There was even the video of a BYU player punching a Memphis player in the back of the head while defenseless while his Tigers coach held him back. Disgraceful doesn't even describe it. Im getting to the point where I don't even want my school to play against BYU anymore. They always try to demand that 2 games get played in their crappy dump of a stadium in Provo. It smells funny down there. And only one game at our home. I'm sick of it and fed up. Don't ever agree to play a game in Provo. Let BYU's home schedule be Wagner and Savannah State and stuff. Its the worst home schedule in all of college football by far. I know it is peculiar for rivals of opposing teams to have arguments on another team's board, but honestly, I can't say I disagree with the notion that certain BYU players acted disgracefully in the brawl against Memphis. Generally the "private" suspensions are reserved for behavior/actions that occurred (or didn't occur) in private. Not for on field behavior. That is, at best, unusual. Well I'm an old fart so my memory leaves me at times. Remind me of the last on field issue a player had where Bronco immediately announced the suspension to the public. For the life of me I can't recall it. That's kind of my point. Pretty much every other coach publicly announces discipline for on field issues. That's because an on field issue is not private. It is not as though the player flunked algebra so you don't announce the suspension to keep the fact of the bad grade private. Engage in a brawl on the field and everybody knows about it so it is reasonable to expect that the discipline is public as well. I think he's looking at all players involved and he's looked at the level of their involvement. There are certain players (Nacua punching the guy in the back on the head) who were much more guilty of brawling than some who may have just been pushing or throwing players to get them off team mates and the level of punishment is going to be much different. If you follow BYU you also will know that there is off field punishments for lesser levels of involvement or rule breaking. These punishments are rarely ever announced. We don't know what has already been done to players who may have had lesser involvement. I think we can be certain that Nacua and Koroma will be suspended based on Bronco keeping them out of the team scrimage but he's never, that I can recall, announced suspensions until he absolutely has to. Like it or not, agree or not, that is his right and that's how he's handled suspensions in the past. It is what it is.
  17. Uh, what? On field issue that lead to suspension? How many of those occur, if ever? Only when guys get tossed from games, but then it isn't up to the coach but the conference. I'm not referring to players doing something that brings an ejection and automatic suspension. That didn't happen in the Memphis St game because it was after the game ended. HuskerExPat made the point that on field actions are handled differently than off field incidents (unless I misunderstood his point). I'm just asking him, or you, when the last time there was something a player did on the field, where the suspension was left up to the school, i.e. a brutal play not seen by the officials but seen by the staff, where the suspension was announced publically days prior to the next game. I just don't recall any such incidents to base the statement he made on, and especially during the Bronco era. He's always been closed mouth about such things. I just don't see the Memphis St brawl any differently handled than any other suspensions during his time as head coach.

  20. Season ending knee injury. I'm not too sure how he was going to be used this year because he didn't play much if at all last year. With the offense BYU has been running in the past few years the TE hasn't had the same emphasis as in the past. We'll usually have a big blocking TE and then a larger than average receiver that fills in as a receiving TE. Our past two standout TE's were Harline and Pitta and neither one was a typical TE even though Pitta has found a home with the Ravens. This loss of Richards might be big or it might not be noticeable at all, only time will tell.
  21. I'm reasonably certain Texas thought the same when they visited Provo in 2013. And when BYU visited Austin in 2014. The 'revenge' factor, and all that. Texas 2013 & 2014 was at least as talented as 2015 Nebraska. Well this report on the BYU scrimmage doesn't seem positive for them. A top LB, who I think BYU fans mentioned was a talented pass rusher earlier in this thread, and their starting stud Center seem to be suspended. Not sure they have the depth to hold up with 6-7 suspensions as this article suggests. http://www.sltrib.com/sports/2844058-155/byu-football-scrimmage-provided-more-suspension Some of our scrimmage reports don't seem too good for us, either. And with a starter suspended from our defense, we won't be playing at full strength. The world expects BYU to suspend several players, and their CB is almost a sure lock to be suspended, but I'm skeptical about how many suspensions they'll have, and the duration. I've seen videos posted by BYU fans purporting to show Memphis players "starting it" and "being the aggressor" and the more I see that, combined with Bronco's lack of transparency on these specific suspensions, make me very suspicious that they won't suspend nearly as many players as Memphis suspended, and I also suspect that many of them will only be suspended for a half. Last week Mendenhall announced their starting OLB, Sione Takitaki, will be suspended for an off-season incident unrelated to the brawl. Clearly he's not above announcing suspensions, so why not announce the brawl suspensions? Why announce Takitaki's suspension if doing so puts you at a disadvantage? It's fishy. I don't like it. A couple of things you need to know about Bronco and the BYU program. The only time they ever announce a suspension is when they absolutely have to. The Takitaki suspension was announced because he was charged with a civil crime which is made public so there was no reason to withhold word of the suspension. 22. Really? You are on this board too? For someone that hates BYU so much you spend a lot of time obsessing over them. I could careless for the Aggies and because I don't care for them, I don't go on their message boards let alone their opponents message boards. You need to find yourself a woman, at this point "attractive" shouldn't even be a requirement. He's always way ahead of BYU fans in visiting out opponents boards. He's in his rare form too. Complaining that we say things about USU fans and mullets and stuff. This is classic AggieAndee. He should just copy and paste from one board to the next.
  23. I hate to break the BYU/usu threads here and I apologize but I have a question about the Huskers. I've read several comments that the DB's are a strength (or THEE strength) of the defense. What would you say the reason behind them being so solid? Do your DB's have good size and speed which allows them to cover both the tall athletic and the small fast receivers? Who in your defensive backfield would you say is the anchor that keeps things running?
  24. I've spent some time on CougarBoard over the past week. Almost every thread has some reference to "yewts." Seems like that sentiment is mutual. Yewts is a derogatory spelling of the utes, University of Utah. During the off season you have to talk about something. BYU and Utah fans have an intense hatred of each other so you will see comments about yewts. The aggies are pretty much ignored until we play them.
  25. Are you implying the whole country isn't looking forward to USU v BYU's annual thriller???? I've got it circled on my calendar through 2020. USU against BYU is a great and intense game and rivalry. The game is scheduled as the last game of the year now in November in college football rivalry week because its become such a big in-state rivalry between the 2 teams. I said before that BYU fans are terrified of losing to USU 2 times in a row and then dropping to 3-3 in the last 6 games. The game they want to win the most this year is the rivalry game against the Aggies. Guess what, the game is in Logan this year so with the USU student section there and loud USU will have the big edge and should win the game. It will change the whole world of recruiting in Utah if USU can win two big games in a row against BYU. People in local sports radio are already predicting USU to win. You won't be disappointed if you tune in and its already scheduled to be televised on national TV on CBS during rivalry week. AggieAndee...didn't your mother ever teach you that lying is a sin? I haven't talked to, or read one BYU fan saying that the usu game is the game we most want to with this year. You preach this crap every year to every opponent we have. You spouting about it doesn't make it so. Just crawl back in your cow pasture and let the adults talk about football.
