  1. Scott Frost is to blame for offense woes. I do not understand how he was an offensive coordinator? Our defense can keep us in the game but our offense has to move the ball and SCORE.
  2. Way to go defense…that is exactly what we needed
  3. Every time we do that, we get slapped back to reality…so I will take it one game at a time…you go ahead and buy tickets for the Big championship game if that is what you want.
  4. One step at a time…beat MSU first and then worry about what comes next…
  5. A signature win would be a win against Michigan or Ohio State…teams with storied histories.
  6. If we play a clean game and our special teams do not hurt us, we win. If, however, our Offense has another slow start and our unspecial teams continue their unspecial streak, we lose a close one. I really hope we win because I am sooooooooo tired of moral victories.
  7. We need some momentum going into games with the tougher opponents. This week is a chance for this team to carry the effort they put into the MSU game and finally pull a win. I would not call that a signature win as MSU’s opponents are not doing well but beating MSU will give this team the confidence they need to compete against Ohio state and Michigan. If we go into those games limping, we will get embarrassed on national TV, which will set us back to square 1. The truth of the matter is that after four years of consistency in coaching staff, Frost needs to evaluate and make much needed coaching changes to resolve our OL and special teams woes, especially if they continue to cost us close games. Frost was brought here to right the ship and not to secure jobs for his buddies. If his buddies can’t earn their fat paychecks, get someone who sees this as an opportunity to be a part of getting the Huskers back to relevance.
  8. Watching the game again, I am left to wonder if we will get a signature win this season that will propel us to turn the corner and get back to competing at the national level. To get that win, I feel we are missing the following and I do not know if we can get them fixed this season: (1) Disciplined smart play from our OL giving Martinez enough time to react or find open receivers (2) Hiring a dedicated special teams coach that can focus on fixing the serious issues with our special teams play. Having one coach be in charge of two different aspects of the team sends a wrong message to the team that special teams play is not that important when we all have seen that it is our Achilles heel. (3) Frost learning to design an effective 2-minute drill. The plays called during our 2-minute drills are miserable, chaotic, and extremely ineffective. Frost looks as lost as the entire offense and that does not infuse confidence into the team. (4) Improve our red zone offense. We are our own worst enemy when we get to the red zone. If the penalties do not get us, the horrible play calling does. That, coupled with the fact that we have ABSOLUTELY NO kicking game, is a recipe for disaster. We have laid goose eggs on many trips to the red zone. Yesterday’s game gave us hope that this team is making progress and that they might be closer than we thought after the Illinois game. However, if we are to get our signature win, we need to fix the above or we will continue to lose close games. Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio state, and Iowa are really good. If we are to win some of these games, we cannot keep ignoring the above and hoping they will magically fix themselves. I remain cautiously optimistic that we will be able to get some good wins this season that can help us build upon going into next year.
  9. The flag was thrown because he pushed the opponent down after the play was dead. You have to play smart when you are up against superior competition and making mental mistakes like this kills drives. On first drive, he got a 15 yard penalty that set us back. He also had several false start penalties in this season and personal fouls. If we do not have a good replacement in our depth chart then I understand. Otherwise, Jurgens should have been pulled out for a series to settle down and be talked to. Penalties are killing us in every game. If we keep blaming the refs and not taking responsibility for our lack of discipline, we will not turn that corner. Today’s game showed us we can compete with top 10 teams but also showed us that our weaknesses keep holding us back. I loved JURGENS effort on that play but he is seasoned enough to know that throwing the opponent down after the play will draw a flag. We should not ruin a good effort by committing a silly foul. That is what is holding us back.
  10. Greg Austin has been given many chances to improve the OL and he has failed miserably. Looking back at our performances, the OL has been one of our weakest links. Austin needs to be replaced. Also Dawson knows as much about coaching special teams as I know ancient Samarian. It is time for Frost to finally start making some much needed coaching changes if he is to remain at the helm.
  11. I am hoping that our team looks at this game and gains confidence heading into Big competition because Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio state are for real and we will have to play clean error free football if we are to have a chance at competing.
  12. At this point, all fingers and thumbs point to Frost and his unwillingness to make coaching changes to address issues we have faced for 4 years. Last week, I posted on three different threads that special teams will cost us close games. This is definitely one of those. This game ends 23-21 Nebraska win if we score our field goals and do not miss the point after. At what point does Frost go out and hire the best special teams coach out there. Heck, Frost should take a pay cut from his big fat salary and use it to attract the best special teams coach. Also OL is penalty prone and has not improved. Why is that coach still allowed in memorial stadium? This game really gives me hope that we might be closer than we thought in turning the corner but if we continue to ignore special teams and OL woes, we will continue to lose close games. Also, our offense is not explosive enough for us to be able to absorb penalties and horrible special teams play. We need all aspects of our game to click if we are to have a chance against the BIG opponents.
  13. Based on this game, our biggest weaknesses are the unspecial teams and our OL. When Martinez is given time, he makes great throws but he is rushed 90% of the time. This game ends 23-21 Nebraska win if we score our two field kicks and point after that turned into two points for OU. We were our worst enemy in this game. Obviously not a talent issue but a coaching issue. Frost needs to hire a dedicated special teams coach and I mean a top notch coach and fire our OL coach.
  14. Frost should have pulled jurgens out of game after second costly penalty so players see that there are consequences for their mistakes.
  15. I am starting to think that Erik Chinander might be a better coach than Frost. His defense played well enough to win. He was let down by offense and unspecial atrocious teams.
  16. I hate losing to OU…just absolutely hate it
  17. If we played a clean game and scored our field kicks and point after, we win. Sad when you are so close yet sooooooo far
  18. They will run the clock down if we can’t stop them.
  19. It is sooooooooooo good for others to make mistakes
