Can we score a point after?

The problems this team has have nothing to do with lack of talent but bad coaching. Penalties and special teams is a coaching issue and has been for 4 years now. The inability of Frost to find a fix tells us he is lost and overwhelmed. He simply has no answers.

This is NOT ON MARTINEZ. this is on coaches and their continued dismissal of focusing on special teams and limiting penalties.

This is what happens when your special teams are your biggest enemy and opponent. We have subzero trust in our kicker

SPECIAL TEAMS, PENALTIES, JURGENS….REASONS we lose this game…does this sound familiar?

God sends angels from heaven to play with the Huskers and we win…may be the beer talking…

“Lacking in special teams play” is the understatement of the year.

Every game for us is a rivalry since we have not beaten anyone regularly. I seriously doubt this bunch sees this game with the same lenses that our teams in the 70s, 80s, and 90s saw this game. To them, this game is like playing Ohio state and expecting to lose. I am praying for a miracle that they surprise me this Saturday. Regardless, I already have two dozen bottles of my favorite beer in the fridge to brighten the mood. I plan to be happy one way or another.

I remember Virginia Tech under Frank Beamer. They won so many games because of the play of their special teams. He invested a lot on special teams and it paid off. I do not know why Frost does not see value in hiring a dedicated special teams coach to work with this group. Having a coach be in charge of two groups is not efficient or effective. There is no shame in hiring a special teams coach and let each coach focus on their group. The special teams woes have been apparent in the Frost era and four years in, he still does not see that this is a major area of weakness. Loyalty to your coaches is one thing but this is really hurting the entire team and is discouraging to the defense who play their butts off to stop opposing teams only to have our unspecial teams give the ball right back. That is demoralizing.

Don’t get me wrong. I wish with all my heart that I am completely off base and that my Huskers win all their games. However, watching this team and watching the other BIG teams, it is painfully obvious we are far from where we want to be. The issues with special teams are very serious and not something you can fix between weeks. Our offense sputters and is extremely inconsistent. Our defense is improved but they still commit costly penalties at the worst times. After 4 years of consistency in coaching personnel, we should expect better results. I can name several teams that have turned the corner with new coaches in their second or third year. We have not. It is sad but true. But, I still love my Huskers and will always cheer for them no matter what. Wanting your team to be better does not make you less fun.

Let’s face it, this was our last win this season. Looking at our remaining schedule, the only game we might have a chance at winning is against Northwestern and that is debatable of course.

(1) Our offense sputters all the time and relies on luck to get big plays. Four years in and our offense still has no identity. We lack consistency and Frost seems to be making the offensive plan as the game progresses. I do not think he can outcoach his opponents. (2) Half-time adjustments…wait, what half-time adjustments? It is as if Frost and the team spend half time telling jokes and braiding each other’s hair. (3) We simply cannot ignore our unspecial s#!ttyass teams anymore. Every time we punt, kick, or receive the ball, it is a disaster waiting to unravel. At what point does Frost admit that we do not have a plan for special teams. (4) We continue to commit costly and devastating penalties at the most inopportune times. Against teams with a pulse, these turn into opponent points or take away points from us. (5) It seems like every week we learn the SAME EXACT THINGS. That tells me that Frost is lost. (6) If we cannot run the ball against Buffalo, what are we going to do against Oklahoma next week? (7) Oklahoma is going to hang 50 points on us by the end of the third quarter and we will score on their second stringers in the 4th quarter.

Who is Uncle Rico? Is he a good kicker? Can we recruit him? Place a call for us genius.

Last week, I had my wife hold the football and I tried kicking field goals. My longest was 48 yards but I was able to kick 9/10 field goals from 40 yards or less. I understand that it is different when you have guys running towards you but for god’s sake, he missed three of the easiest field goals you can have. He also missed two points after in the Illinois game. May be his problem is psychological. Get the kid some help since he is obviously struggling. Have we even tried using our women’s soccer team? It is not that hard to kick a football. If we continue to be this bad, we will lose many games, especially close ones.

I am 1000% sure I can kick better than culp. I played two years college soccer and I am confident I can score field goals from 40 yards with consistency. What is happening this year is absolutely unacceptable. We will get butchered by Oklahoma with this BS unspecial s#!ttyass teams.

Frost believes in Big Foot but not in special teams. Why have a coach for special teams when our special teams are sooooooooooo special.

I have been saying this for 4 years now. Frost does not believe in special teams.

Can we just retire the special teams? Do we need them?
