  1. That's a bit much A 3 win team then? There's no reason this should be a 14-7 game with 5:00 in the half unless we're not as great as we thought we are. winner winner chicken dinner
  2. that doesn't make them any less dangerous to our hopes!
  3. We're in on much better, and much more "much better" prospects than we have been in the past. Based on rankings anyway. So, yes, they are proving it wrong. What is the Michigan draw then? Im curious. Just because theyve outrecruited us in the past doesnt necessarily mean the draw is better. That could be a simple coach thing. What I'm asking is what does Michigan have to offer that Nebraska doesnt? Right now way more national cred and a better coach. What cred? Michigans been as much garbage as nebraska has the last decade. even last year, they didnt do anything more than Bo ever did. If im not mistaken, this weekend we have two of, if not THE two, top overall prospects in the country here for OV's. The point remains. This staff is proving (not that they have proved. It's still in process) that we can compete with the likes of Ohio St, Michigan, Bama, USC etc for top notch talent. Have you lost your mind!!!!!!!!!
  4. I guarantee that when next yr. rolls around there will be alot here still sayin " next yr." you just wait. Such is the life of every sports fan, marko. Chicago Bears fans have been saying it for 30 years. I really think the ceiling is about 9 wins, the floor is around 6. I look across the roster and I don't see a ton of places where I can point and say they got noticeably better in those areas. The major areas I hope they have improved would be culture, identity and trust in the coaches. A better understanding of what's being asked of them should translate to the field. The talent is there to compete for a West division title. Sure it is , but it can lead to acceptance much like we have now. O and btw do you want us to be like the bears! Or do you say" I am mad and I am not taking it anymore"
  5. I guarantee that when next yr. rolls around there will be alot here still sayin " next yr." you just wait. I said that every year for 20 years until Osborne finally started his incredible run. So yeah, nothing wrong with saying "next year". There is if it never comes.

  7. Injuries could devastate this team. We aren't deep enough to overcome normal attrition. We need to be healthier than average this year to have a decent record. Depends on the position but yeah it really could. We need a solid year from key spots without having to plug holes because of injury or lack of production. To finish atop the West, we need a solid team for 12 weeks. Excuses no's... 10,678,416... 10,678,417. Excuses... and more excuses... and more excuses... and more excuses... and on and on and on... never ending... No more excuses ! What on earth are you talking about? There are a half dozen teams that will have a meaningful season each year, and five of them will be making excuses about not winning the National Championship. There's a very good chance Nebraska will not achieve a Husker Psycho level of success this year, and there will probably be very good reasons. You can call them excuses if you want, but actually they will be "reasons." You can then take the reasons why Nebraska did not win as many games as you would have liked and compare them to the reasons why Nebraska won as many games as they did, and decide if that counts as improvement. You will join the other 120 college football programs that did not win any meaningful championship and decide if you like the way the program is trending. You can be optimistic and realistic at the same time. Were there exciting games, memorable moments and highlight reel plays by your favorite players? That counts for something, too. It's an entertainment business. As much as we might grouse about our last 15 championship-free seasons, it's similar to or far better than the troughs other dynastic football programs have been through. That's not an excuse. Just a reality. And nobody --- I mean nobody --- is endorsing a losing culture. Winning is a lot more fun. We are rooting for the team to win. Some of us just want to give the new coach a second or third year before totally flipping out. So it's no longer the Nebraska Football Program... It's now the Nebraska Entertainment Business. I've always said that we would know the ultimate point of our downfall... the point of no return... when people started talking nonsense like that. This is a total betrayal of all those who have come before. All those players and coaches who gave their heart and soul for the sport of football. Will there now be tap dancing after we have thrown an interception. Will we become Nebraska Dancing With The Stars ? Will we show slow motion replays of lost fumbles and then let the crowd vote with number cards on the players performance during the fumble. If they get up with a big smile on their face do we give them a high rating for their performance ? Hey, why not it's entertaining. Will we show judges with huge smiles on their faces and jaws droped in amazement after we lose a game ? Of course, it's great entertainmemt. Or will we stop the nonsense and rededicate ourselves to the sport of football... with high athletic an coaching achievement and performance. Will we get back to being a program that cares more about winning football games... recruiting and developing high achieving athletes... and cares nothing about making excuses... I SURE HOPE SO ! As far a giving the coaching staff another year. Well guess what you goof ? That's exactly what were doing. We're all still here... and we're all giving the current coaching staff another chance. We'll cheer when we win and we'll be angry when we loose. When the season is over we will re-evaluate what happened this year and combine the results with what happened last year. We will also look at the results of the current staffs third year of recruiting and each and everyone of us will make their own personal decision on what we think... and where we should go from there. And that's a right that each and every one of us has, as loyal Nebraska fans. You cant force allegiance on fans. My allegiance is to the Nebraska Football Program... not any particular coaching staff or athletic director. I want what's best for the program. Each and every one of us has the right to think for ourselves. Many of us played football and many of us understand the game and coaching. We can see for ourselves what's happening and whether we're headed in the right direction. Go Big Red Amen brother!!!!!
  8. I guarantee that when next yr. rolls around there will be alot here still sayin " next yr." you just wait.
  9. Maybe for most but for us? We set the standard we don't follow it. Mark it down. Riley will retire in seven years as a great hire. Define great. If winning the conference more often than not and be in the top 15 usually, would be "great " in my book. If not then just another ham and egger albeit a nice one this time....
  10. I agree. Except the sling it around thing, well, I dont think that means 50 attempts, ala Texas Tech, baylor, etc. But i do think a more deliberate passing game based on formation. like when we line up in 3-4 wides, we're passing, cuz this provides the best chance for success with these matchups. When we line up in power sets, we're running, cuz this is what provides us best matchups for success. I think this may be what they want to get to. Then sprinkle your curveballs from there. Possibly not. But we threw it 40+ times in nearly half our games last year with a marginal throwing QB and a walk-on who had barely played. So..... this exactly, and there are a couple of other advantages to being a running "mindset" team. It is a more physical brand of play, think boxing and body shots, hell after enough of them it takes the starch out of you. Also if you have a marginal to average defense the time of possession thing can really be your friend. A whole tough impose your will mentally can really pay off if you are not loaded with talent.
  11. Maybe it's both. We run it more this year with tommy under center, next year we open it up with our new shiny passing qbs. Isn't that what most people are hoping happens? Maybe it is. Hell no!!! that is a recipe for more mediocrity.
  12. Well if you cut right to it, we did try to put that square peg in that other hole! I think people are leery of the likely hood that we are going to try to be a pass/happy/finesse kind of team because that's the way this staff rolls at its core. personally I don't think that approach will ever get and keep us relevant in this conference or the nation, and if you are going to try that, you better have a quarterback with a lot more skills and acumen than Tommy has, and a kick ass Defense.
  13. Most days where we try to be a drop back pro style team , you will get "bad Tommy" to one degree or another.
  14. Nice guys can win, but it will take a hell of a lot more than that to get us back to relevancy. Btw Pelini was an average at best coach and an A-hole. It is just going to take someone with great coaching skills and relentless drive to get us back. Is that Mike? we shall see.Oh and if you are someone who is unconvinced about mike it does not automatically make you a bo fan like people some on here imply all the time. For the record ! BO was a "joke"
  15. Or maybe just maybe mike is just a really nice guy and just ain't got what it takes to drive em to top we shall see.
  16. Was there a point in all this?
  17. You are supposed to be serious about this, not just be a homer. Remember Colorado's run to commemorate Sal Aunese? I do. Sal was their star quarterback and he died from stomach cancer. Colorado dedicated their season to Sal and went 11-1 that year their only loss was to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. Maybe the Huskers are serious about remembering Sam on the field. But...I'm just a Homer, what the hell do I know? So all we had to do was give more "effort more drive " all these years hmmm who would a thunk it.
  18. You are supposed to be serious about this, not just be a homer.
  19. No they weren't. He's always had terrible footwork. That's a lot of the reason why he was a 51% passer that year. I'm pretty convinced that having such a strong arm is why he never developed proper footwork. In high school he could always just muscle the ball wherever he wanted it to go. He never had to try to develop good footwork to be a good passer because he could get by on arm strength. Plus he could could make up for lack of passing skills with being such a better athlete than most other guys he played. But once you've had that bad of fundamentals for that long, it's almost impossible to change them. You can look better in practice but when things are happening fast during games you revert back to your old habits. spot on!
