  1. This has been under appreciated. It was a problem last year, one of our biggest. The coaches and players don't seem to be having it this year, we seem to get better as the game clock approaches 00:00
  2. what a person would call on one play in one game of the season cannot tell you much about that person's offensive philosophy This also applies to our staff. You can't determine our philosophy off that play alone, you need to take all plays into consideration. Not to insinuate you BRV are doing this, just a general statement
  3. We ran the ball 55% of the time on Saturday. We aren't going back to 65%-70% sorry to break it to you. I would say most teams are closer to 55% than 65% and that includes elite teams. That's football in 2016
  4. Like it or not we are a balanced offense. In a balanced offense you throw on first and goal maybe 25% of the time and giving your running quarterback a run pass option? Even better. It was a playcall that was really neither spectacular good or bad. It was a reasonable call with a bad result due to poor execution. Sure Tommy is prone to execute poorly at times but again you have to expect your starting quarterback to execute the play every time that is a winning mentality.
  5. Running the ball how much though? You just say running the ball is the way to win games but surely you believe in passing some. So the magic run pass ratio for you BRV?
  6. who said we want to be a running team? I'm pretty sure the coaches want to be a balanced team, which means throwing it in a first and goal situation time and again
  7. I'm with GBR here. Good call, bad execution. Could have ran it but they rolled Tommy out and gave him the run pass option there and it's unpredictable against a defense that was expecting the run nearly every play. It's tough to get 4 yards on the ground in goal line situations sometimes. Sometimes it opens up and is easy. With the pass the same is true basically. The d may leave the pass wide open that close or leave a lane for Tommy and make for an easy play. The short field also may result in a more crowded area if the defense is expecting it because the field of play is now about a 15 yard square. When it's clustered like it was you'd hope the QB would chuck it out of bounds but as we know we cannot really rely on our quarterback to do that. But I don't think that should be a reason to not to call the play. You should expect your players to make the plays.
  8. This reminds me of when I play NCAA football 14. I punish the opponent with the run but only gain 6 or 7 a carry for 30+ rushes. Thenot i use the play action and gain 300 yards and 4 touchdowns on 10 attempts
  9. if Virginia can bend them I think we can break them. They are still high powered in the offensive skill positions. Should make for an interesting match up! Agree with the above poster, the battle in the trenches when the skers are defending will be a way to either take control of the game or get mauled in the run game big matchup there. The game was more like 44-20 rather then the 26. I get this only from the box score as I did not see the ending of the game due to how late it was, but I would imagine Virginia scored in garbage time, and I am sure most of those yardage stats are skewed as Oregon probably had their backups in early in the second half. One thing was certain, early on in that game Virginia was able to run the ball with huge holes. Hopefully Newby and Ozigbo have big days. Another way to stop Oregon is to keep their offense off the field, so just run on them all day if you are able to. running yards weren't too skewed, as you said Virginia had success on the ground in the FIRST half. That's big time because we should be better at running the ball than Virginia is
  10. I'd like to see some improvement on those second and third quarter completion numbers though. 12/28 isn't too great, he is capable of a little better than that. But I suppose it's not too big of a problem at all if he can keep this interception rate where it's at. I'll take a ball hitting the turf over the hands of a defender headed the other way any day
  11. If you pick it off 5 times in a game you are executing correctly on the back end on at least a few of those. Id say some of it was poor throws but any time you can take advantage of those that's a good play. Howe many times is a good throw/good decision intercepted anyway?

  13. Surprised to see you this down on them after only 2 games. I knew their defense would be suspect and lack of an elite RB/QB makes them less effective on offense, but overall they have just about as good a shot at a Pac 12 title as most of the league right now.Royce Freeman doesn't fit for you as elite????? He'd be starting here from day one, as well as pretty much every other school in. America. Royce is a major concern. ^^^this. Freeman is a star and we have to slow him down to win this game
  14. I don't think establishing the run will be a problem. Oregons defense is less than spectacular to put it lightly. We need to use this to our advantage and keep the ducks offense off the field by pounding them on the ground keep the clock runningEven now Virginia is really hurting Oregon on the ground. We can move the ball and score on these guys for sure. I think the game will hinge on a) turnover battle and b) containing Royce Freeman and Oregons rushing attack They are? It's 30-13 early in the third. Virginia isn't doing anything to Oregon besides getting whacked. when I posted at halftime their top back had 92 yards and 7.7 ypc that's not hurting a team on the ground? Edit: just checked final box score their back finished with 126 on 15 carries for 8.4. I'm sorry but that is poor run defense against a subpar Virginia squad. If we can't run on these guys it's because they decide to put lil red in at running back
  15. the thing is oregons defense is also suspect at best. Could be a track meet
  16. we need to run more of those tight end reverses! Thanks for the idea wyo

  19. Honestly I think the WYO run D was better than we will see from Oregon
  20. Skers are not better than Clemson if that's what you are insinuating But I learned this team can get hot in a hurry I see us taking the ducks by 2 possessions next Saturday if we can contain Freeman which I think is reasonable
  21. I don't think we really played that badly through the first 3 quarters. It wasn't elite football but we were always in control of the game. Sometimes for whatever reason you can't finish drives and pull away from a team who you should beat handily but that dosent mean you can't control the game in a similar fashion vs a better opponent
  22. if we keep up this type of trend we will see a nice season Winning the TO battle covers up a lot of issues. losing the turnover battle results in losing headscratchers, more looking to avoid that
  23. if we keep up this type of trend we will see a nice season
  24. What's so funny is that Armstrong won 9 games each year in the last 2 seasons under the previous coaching staff. HOW DID THAT EVEN HAPPEN? option ish offense
