  1. This class was filled with WR's and the next one potentially reloading defensive backs? This would be a big snag, especially in that hot bed area.
  2. Nailed it! He was extremely personable during the conference, but I almost felt as if he was slightly offended when discussing the 3-4. He almost started coaching and teaching right then and there about how it's not as simple as what it's been made out to be thus far. I think Diaco is going to be pretty excited to dig into variations and sets that maximize what we have at this time.
  3. I don't know. From my understanding the NT is one of the easiest positions to learn and play in as a true freshman. My only concern will be there conditioning. He would need to be an absolute freak to be strong enough at that age. I still think that even with quite a bit of strength, it would be tough for a freshman to come in and take on that level of responsibility. I would be happy to be wrong because that would free up some of our other guys to play other roles, I just don't see it happening. I could see one of those freshmen coming in to rest the starter though. That I do think is likely. Not as ideal as finding a day one starter, but finding a solid rotation guy would be huge.
  4. I completely agree. My hope, slim as it is, is to somehow keep those Davis twins at the tackle positions where they fit a bit better. They are going to have to have someone that they trust there though like you alluded to and that's probably a Davis twin or Mick.
  5. Says it's going to take a while to learn the new system... as in Years. Says new system is total opposite of old system... could not be more different. He also says that it immediately creates a much more unpredictable alignment for offenses to decipher. That is a big bonus in my opinion. You are right that it sounds like an awful lot of education that is about to come our players way, but I trust that he is a solid teacher and we definitely have position coaches that will get buy in fairly quickly. He did also state that these are young guys and as opposed to NFL guys don't have a huge amount of muscle memory in the 4-3. They will be able to pick it up I think. Won't be perfect right away obviously, but I don't think it will be years till we see the benefits. We don't have the players to run the new system... And even if we do eventually recruit the needed players (who knows when ?)... it will take them years to learn it. Sound familiar ? Outside of NG what other positions do you think we are lacking players in for this system? Adam said that OLBs are the most important position in Diaco's defense, and the NG is 2nd most. I don't know if we do have the OLBs to run his system. I know we don't have the prototype NG. An article I read on his defense said that the NG is the most important, and the SS is second most important. Not sure which is true. When I heard his name being thrown around for DC, I really liked it. I'm sure he's better than Banker, but the more I learn about this hire, the less excited I am about it. Adam comes from the front 7 so I would assume he might have some bias as far as important positions. That being said, I am comfortable with who we have for Defensive backs and outside linebackers. I'm not saying top 10 from the start, but I feel like we might be able to rein in some of those horrific defensive performances right away. Oregon on the road is going to be an immediate test. All that speed in a tough environment. I know they went 4-8, but I bet they rebound and Diaco is going to have a showcase type game to show off what has or has not been accomplished in his short tenure.
  6. Says it's going to take a while to learn the new system... as in Years. Says new system is total opposite of old system... could not be more different. Says "nose guard" is critical in 3-4... says "we don't have one". Well it took Diaco 3 years to get great performance from the Notre Dame defense with the 3-4. I am unsure whether his predecessor at Notre Dame was also using the 3-4 or something different. Let's hope we are not waiting until the 2019 season to see great things from our defense. With Notre Dame players. Notre Dame recruits at a high level... they were recruiting at a high level before he got there and they are still recruiting at a high level... now. We don't recruit at a high level. Welp that settles it, guess we better just give up then. But really, we have talent at the linebacker position and have some guys are can be better in the 3-4 than they were in the 4-3 (Stoltenberg). Our defensive backs are going to be solid too. I know we don't have a nose guard at this point and we will probably have to use one of the Davis's in a spot where they aren't as effective. I still believe we aren't looking at a 3 year process and won't see a huge drop off while they learn. The sky is not falling even though it does make for better message board conversations.
  7. Ideally I'd love to have both Davis twins available for one of the two DT positions, however it makes me immensely nervous to have two true freshmen at the top of the depth chart for such a vital spot. IF one or both of those freshmen could step up to the plate and Davis twins could be used for the DT's I would feel pretty darn confident in our front 7. Yes it's a lot of learning, but I really like the depth we have at those LB's. Don't sleep on Stoltenberg. He is a player made for the 3-4.

  9. Diaco sounded like the 3-4 was kind of a jumping off point. Sounds like he plans on that front 7 keeping offenses on their toes. It may not be as much hybrid as the Steelers, but he also made it sound like saying his defense is just a 3-4 was almost offensive.
  10. There's the most realistic one I've seen so far. Unfortunately it means we miss on all of the big names we had hoped for. Hope that Rafdal will be N, but if not we better get after Robinson. Verdell N or not? Also hoping that USC simply runs out of room for Johnson and we can snag him.
  11. Also he brought up how Banker's defense was predicated on penetration... Reasons Banker had to go. I can't think of any consistent times where we got a lot of penetration. Pretty bad when you can't accomplish goal one of your entire defense.

  13. I get it, this losing streak freaking sucks, but really?! What has Tim miles done outside of 10 game stretch a few years ago ? Nothing absolutely nothing. Players don't get better, the teams regress as the seasons go on. Take away that stretch and he's sub 500 coach in 5 years. At this point I'm over him. He's done nothing to improve the team. Team get a brand new Ferrari of a arena to play in and no change. Could have kept Doc Sadler if they wanted to play ugly basketball and finish 500. If Miles didn't have that 10 game stretch...he would be gone, I think. Since that collapse to OSU in the Big Ten Tourney he must be 20 games under .500 I would imagine that next year is the make or break year. If he can't get it done then I think he will be gone. His recruiting is fully in affect at this point and he also has some of his talented guys with plenty of experience. If he can't get it done next year with that in his favor, then it might be time to look elsewhere.
  14. Yeah well a lot can happen between now and next year. This was supposed to be a tournament expectation year too before White left. We will see how this young team handles all of these lumps. I'm optimistic about next year too, but it seems like we always say that.
  15. I get it, this losing streak freaking sucks, but really?! Rutgers is horrid. This. Do they only have like 5 conference wins in the last 2 years? 14-15 2 conference wins (PSU, Wiscy) 15-16 1 conference win (Minny) This year 1 conference win so far (us)

  17. Specific event in particular irking ya?
  18. Let's try and all stay on our feet this defensive series..
  19. When you're hot your hot. Absolutely unconscious right now! Much needed for this team and probably more importantly him.
  20. What an absolute must win for the Huskers..
  21. I'm okay with that interpretation too. Unfortunately I think the heart has a tendency to win regardless of who this is in reference to.
  22. got this feeling as well, dude seemed clueless to husker football outside of Tommy Armstrong To be fair to him, TA has been Nebraska football for a few years. Unfortunately as a network host for the Big 10, you should probably know the up and coming QB situations for your teams.
