  1. But official attendance is bases on ticket sales, not butts in seats.
  2. I knew Bump through age group track (he was a few years older than me). Great pole vaulter. Scared of heights. Someone asked him how he could pole vault if he was afraid of heights. He said he couldn't see how far up he was without his glasses/contacts.
  3. Should be a good matchup. Utah is 51 at Bart Torvik preseason. Still no Ken Pom or ESPN BPI preseason rankings out.
  4. Basketball basically sells out every game and they haven't consistently been good for 30 years. The actual attendance doesn't reflect the arena being sold out, but their 2022/23 average attendance was almost 15300 (10th in the country) with a capacity of 15500.
  5. It's almost always more expensive to renovate than to build new when dealing with 100 year old buildings, especially ones that have had multiple renovations/additions. The problem NU has is that there is nowhere on campus to build a new stadium, so they can't build a $350-400 million stadium. As far as the Tampa Bay stadium, it was built in 1998. There are many things that fans expect out of a stadium now that didn't exist 25 years ago, so that 303M in 2002 dollars doesn't really apply. I'm not saying that the 1B Taj Mahal's that NFL teams are building is appropriate for a college team, but comparing to a stadium that was built 25 years ago isn't either.
  6. Never played "organized" football. When friends & I played in the yard/park, I always had pretty good hands, but I was slow. Probably why I became a distance runner. Ran track & cross country in high school & college (D3). As far as know, I'm the only person at my college who ran the 10000, 5000 and 3000 steeplechase in the same meet (one day). Scored points for the team in the 10k & steeple. Didn't have much left for the 5k but finished it (and not last). I don't really watch a lot of football anymore & my SO is always shocked when I call penalties before they are announced on TV.
  7. Apparently you've never been stuck in a row full of 400 lb fans who each take 2-3 seats and leave everyone squished together like sardines. You also should know that those 400 lb fans sweat like they are water fountains even when it's 30 degrees outside.
  8. First into a cup/glass, then into your mouth followed by your stomach, then your bladder and into a urinal/toilet.
  9. Three short notes on today's practice. I hope the one about shooting better from 3 comes true. Three takes on Nebraska men's basketball open practice (omaha.com)
  10. I think roster churn has a lot to do with players thinking they deserve to play right away when they don't. They've never been on a team where they weren't one of the best players and they don't know how to handle it when they get to college, so if they aren't starting (or at least playing a lot) so they enter the portal. The worst part is that there are hundreds of players who go into the portal and nobody wants them. Now they've given up a free ride to college and their athletic dreams because they couldn't be patient. It's even worse in basketball because a lot of players play for a different AAU and/or HS team every year searching for a team that will give them guaranteed playing time or more exposure and that attitude carries over to college.
  11. I don't follow recruiting that closely, but based on final rankings, NU has had to have plenty of 4-star recruits and a few 5-stars. The problem is they have either been overrated out of HS, or haven't been developed by previous staffs. There seems to be a lot of 4/5-star players that dominate in HS because they are superior athletes, but don't put in the work to improve when they get to college and everyone is athletically equal (or better). Even Lebron James and Usain Bolt had to work their a$$es off when they got to the world stage. I know neither of them went to college, but it's the same principle. It's not always about talent, there has to be a drive to improve too. Lamar Jackson when he was at Louisville had a huge arm and great running ability as a freshman, but didn't complete 55% of his passes and only had a 12/8 TD/Int rate. He worked his tail off in the offseason and won the Heisman as a sophomore. His completion percentage didn't increase by a huge amount (56.2%), but his TD/Int rate went to 30/9. I'm not saying NU has a Lebron/Usain/Lamar kind of player on their roster, but the players they do have need to have the internal drive to improve. It can't always be on the coaches and they can't only rely on their natural talent.
  12. I think we will be a little better than last year. I think 20 wins is possible, but our non-conference schedule is really bad, so 20 wins probably leaves us as a NIT team. Outside of Creigton (#4) & K-State (#40) we don't play anyone in Bart Torvik's preseason top 50 and the only other top 100 team we play is Duquesne at 57. If we don't go at least 9-2 in the non-con, it could be an ugly season. No one else has released their 23/24 preseason rankings yet so I don't really have anything to compare to yet.
  13. Today is the first day they can have full team practices. Six weeks until the first game that counts.
  14. Honestly most of the songs that fire me up wouldn't be playable in the stadium. All the blue hairs would freak out over the "bad" words and edited versions of songs are like the line ride in South Park.
  15. I know I'm joining this discussion very late, but I've never liked kiss (I don't even have enough respect for them to use capital letters). If it weren't for the pyro & makeup no one would know them at all. I give them credit for finding a gimmick to appeal to teenage boys, but they suck in all things music. If you held a gun to my head and told me to play a kiss song or die, I'd probably play Beth or choose death. Def Leppard was great through Pyromania, Histeria was OK and everything after that sucked. They are my SO's favorite band, so I get to see them every time they come near Omaha. AC/DC's best songs are with Bon Scott. Back in Black is a great album, but most of the Brian Johnson stuff is OK at best. When I was running track/cross country in college I always used a mix of hard rock/metal/rap to get myself psyched up. Only song I can remember being on the play list was Anthrax/PE - Bring the Noise.
  16. Preseason Bart Torvik rankings are out. Has the Huskers going 19-12 (10-10 B1G) with a preseason ranking of 46. Gotta love the 6-way tie for third and 10 teams finishing between 11-9 and 8-12. 2023-24 Projections - - Customizable College Basketball Tempo Free Stats - T-Rank (barttorvik.com)
  17. ESPN has the Huskers as a 7 seed in Salt Lake. Very early, but nice to see that they are expected to a good team. NCAA Women's Bracketology - 2024 women's college basketball projections (espn.com)
  18. If I had to guess, the over/under wins line will be 15-17. If they come out of the non-con season with less than 8 wins something horrible has happened.
  19. Should be a chance to have 10 wins before the conference season really starts in January and a chance at 20 wins for the season. B1G should be down except for MSU & PU. Twenty wins won't guarantee an NCAA bid because there are too many cupcakes in the non-conference schedule.

  23. Got my tickets. Not impressed by DDG, but I do want to meet the teams. I will probably stick around for some of DDG, but unless his live show is better than his YouTube videos, I won't stay for all of it.
  24. So this is fun... Washington State & Oregon State are essentially suing the 10 members of the conference that are leaving to keep them from dissolving the Pac12. Oregon State, Washington State file complaint against Pac-12 - ESPN
