  1. We currently have six players who would be seniors or already gone if last year wasn't a "free" year. We currently have 14 on scholarship (one over the limit). Lakes, Verge & Webster are definitely gone as "super" seniors. Mayen, Trey McGowens and Walker would be seniors in "normal" times and there is a chance Bryce McGowens is a one and done guy. So there could be seven leaving without anyone leaving for playing time issues. We have three coming in - Dawson, Lloyd & Keita which puts them somewhere between 10-14 for the upcoming season as it stands.
  2. Most people think he will redshirt. He looked like a bit of a project when I saw him at the meet the team event a couple weeks ago. Tall, too skinny and a bit awkward.
  3. 1-68 today. This is where the bulk of the schedule is. Average ranking of our regular season opponents is 89. It drops to 88 if you add the Colorado exhibition game. Colorado - 62 Creighton - 63 Indiana - 23 Michigan - 5 Auburn - 31 Ohio State - 18 Michigan State - 34 Rutgers - 39 Illinois - 7 Purdue - 2 Wisconsin - 53 Northwestern - 57 Iowa - 59 Maryland - 22 https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-no-1-358-rankings-preseason-countdown-concludes-with-top-68-teams-for-2021-22-season/
  4. Thanks! I'm a number cruncher, so this is the kind of thing I like to do. I haven't actually read all 290 team previews (who has that kind of time?). I just search for Husker opponents.
  5. Today is 69-200. Huskers are 99. The only other B1G teams outside the top 68 are Minnesota at 155 & Penn State at 84. There's a few more opponents too. Sam Houston State - 191 Tennessee State - 182 South Dakota - 184 NC State - 69 Kansas State - 86 https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-rankings-preseason-countdown-of-every-team-continues-with-nos-200-69-for-2021-22-season/
  6. CBS has started their 1-358 ranking. Today is 201-358. Only four Husker opponents on the list so there's that. Western Illinois - 305 Idaho State - 247 Southern - 302 Kennesaw State - 289 https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/dribble-handoff-duke-kentucky-among-college-basketball-teams-set-for-bounce-back-seasons-in-2021-22-campaign/
  7. Red team was Verge, McGowens, McGowens, Walker & Breidenbach White team was Webster, Tominaga, Edwards, Andre & Wilcher (I think) Mayen didn't play because of back soreness, so I'm guessing he starts over Breidenbach at least early in the season.
  8. Andre was shooting & making 3's during warmups. Not sure how many he would shoot in a game, but the ability is there. I'd say early in the season the rotation will be: Starters - Verge, T McGowens, B McGowens, Mayen, Walker Bench - Webster, Tominaga, Edwards, Breidenbach, Andre End of the Bench - McPherson, Wilcher, Lakes with Kojenets redshirting I don't think any of the walk-ons will get significant time & I wouldn't be surprised to see McPherson & Wilcher get more time throughout the season as they learn the system.
  9. I'm not sure. The only time I remember Tominaga being near Verge he was in a defensive stance & Verge was trying to break him down so neither was standing up straight. He was quick enough to keep Verge in front of him so he's pretty quick because Verge blew by/stepped back on everyone else who tried to guard him one on one (not that there was a lot of D played).
  10. Walker has all but said he's gone after this year. He's got his degree & will have been in college for five years by May. He's ready to move on the next chapter in his life. Not sure about either McGowens. If Bryce does go, Trey will too. If Bryce stays, I wouldn't be surprised to see Trey stay. I'm sure there will be some underclassmen that leave because they think they deserve more playing time. It happens to every team. No one is willing to develop for a year or two before they are in the regular rotation.
  11. OWH story on the poll. All B1G is interesting. All forwards/centers & only one player I'd call a ball handler. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/nebraska-basketball-picked-11th-in-preseason-big-ten-poll/article_509b5e9a-2652-11ec-9816-a7c1a52ff788.html
  12. OWH starting previews. Guards this week. https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/mens-basketball/husker-hoops-position-preview-guards-make-the-fred-hoiberg-offense-go/article_a47e474e-25f7-11ec-9408-efb3d84342ab.html
  13. All the road games on on TV, so with my season tickets I'm good.
  14. I watched him make 3 in a row. If you zoom in I'm in the video 10 rows up.
  15. Count me as part of the group that is upset about cashless. I hope this is just for tonight, not all season. 1 - It is not safer, COVID does not transmit that way. 2 - I hate having a bunch of small transactions on my debit card since I actually reconcile my bank account every month. Twitter is not the place to announce it either. If it weren't for this board, I wouldn't have known in advance & I'm sure there will be others who don't have twitter. It is something that should be sent by email to the ticket holders email addresses since all the tickets are electronic.
  16. I'll be there & I am typically loud enough for a couple of people.
  17. I'm starting to get excited to be in PBA meeting/watching the team.
  18. I remember that. I think that, ideally, Fred would prefer to not have a big post only player, but to compete in the B1G he has to have one. What most teams really want today is a big that can defend the post, shoot the three that is quick enough to switch on pick/roll or pick/pop out top. Unfortunately those guys are few & far between (and probably not looking at NU). Luka Garza at Iowa last year had the first two, but not the third which is why he didn't get drafted until late in the second round. It's also why Cockburn & Dickinson came back this year. Neither can shoot the three (or at least couldn't last year) and Dickinson had issues switching. I think Cockburn is what he is and will probably not improve his draft stock by staying in college. Dickinson showed some ability to hit mid-range jumpers so he may be able to extend his range to become Garza-esque.
  19. I don't think the problem is height. It is weight/strength. Hunter Dickinson at Michigan was 7' 1", 255 lbs last year & has probably put on at least 10-15 pounds of muscle in the off season. Kofi Cockburn at Illinois was 7', 285 last year and solid as a rock. Every team in the B1G seems to have at least one big post player.
  20. Practice starts today. That means six weeks until Western Illinois. Is anyone else excited?
  21. CBS Sports' top ten transfers super seniors - was mentioned as honorable mention. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketballs-top-10-super-seniors-villanovas-collin-gillespie-lead-group-back-for-bonus-season/
  22. I don't remember much about Joe. The first season we had season tickets was the year he & Moe Iba were shared head coaching duties because Joe was fighting cancer. We went to most of the games the season before. There are a lot of things that make me feel old.
  23. I'll be seeing the teams & him on 10/1. I'll judge him on his live skills.
  24. Me too. College hoops season is my favorite time of year. Been going to Husker hoops games with my dad since Joe Cipriano was coach.
