  1. Got to watch Toure and he was certainly a stud! How much of him do you think we got out of him? My guess is that both he and Allen are going to be found out to be better than they were at Nebraska [thus, underutilized].
  2. It would have been fun to see Wandale underneath in the short, quicker routes and then Toure pushing the middle to long routes. That's how my mind sees it. Finally, as you said, they played on different teams and plays into it ... in that same vein, for me, it's not fair to judge Wandale as a Fresh and Soph to a Senior year of Toure either.
  3. Agreed. That is a special talent our RB's seem to possess and can't get coached out of. My guess is it's a combo of OL blocking and "sense" as the play is developing.
  4. I couldn't judge the two personally when we got them. Toure got developed and used far better, both prior to Nebraska and then after. That saddest part of it all is what the team could have looked like with both of them. It still makes me chuckle how many folks on this board concluded that Wandale just wasn't "that elite". The reality was he was a very nice piece that never got utilized well. And, the fact is, that even if he was utilized well, between the line and the QB, he probably wasn't going to be as "showy" of a piece as he could have been out of our own lack to coach. In terms of being the better pro, I'd draft Toure ahead of Wandale all day long. I think Wandale could have been a great college player but never really saw him as a pro prospect in the same way.
  5. You and I see this in the same way. I took a beating early before the season in my "harsh" view of the line [especially toward the person who played the Center position. I've had a very low grade for the OL. So, I love to hear that folks think it can be coached up and all ... but I'd still like to over-recruit the OL and let the "decay" and "immature" who can't either "get it" or can't be "coached up" to get overcrowded and feel the need to leave. I think we are late to the party in taking advantage of the portal [due to our poor record] but I think the coaches are seeing what you are seeing. If we can work in 3+ OL this spring I'm with you and think that bodes very well as a sign we are heading in the right direction.
  6. Ya, I think this is how they see it as well. I've had a different view of the OL. I've argued and debated it enough that I will not restate it. I think that we will see 3-5 more folks leave. I'm hopeful to one more new OL [a stud] to come. It's the OL and DL that we need some help at over the next few seasons. It seems like the OL is still a couple of seasons away from being "seasoned" to have Junior/Seniors across the entire line. I'm hoping the portal will fill that need. I'm encouraged that folks like you who have more of an eye and coaching experience in all this see the OL and see it perhaps as a "shade better". That is awesome. Hopefully, the new coaches also increase the development along with recruiting improvement.
  7. I see the way forward as to simply recruit to a position 9-10 guys for really 6-7 spots and show the weakest that to stay is to not play. The player now has the right to move into the portal at everyone else's expense. Thus, the only way to balance it is to make sure you have plenty of depth and push the weak player out. If you have recruited the kids who really want to play, then they won't put up with it and will move on [at least that is the hope]. Thus, we have to almost "over-recruit" a position of need until it finally balances with the right kids.
  8. For me, I don't know what he will be. It could be more of the same. Yet, he had a hand injury amidst all those "statistics". Prior to that, anyone would have been happy with his performance. It all makes one look at AM as well amidst his own injury issues and the lack of OL and other missing parts that seemed to hurt him. In the end, it was best to move on. In that same light, it seemed the staff was willing to "move in" toward Thompson and give him an opportunity with Purdy and the other QB's. No clue what happens here ... especially with the bigger OL issues that are glaring at us.
  9. Sure, but don't you think it would be "fair" to mention his hand issue amidst it all ... or do you report for CNN? That thought, "statistics don't lie ... people do", seems to apply here. Within your opinion doesn't seem to be fairness, that is, if one is truly wanting to offer "perspective".
  10. Is that the "whole" story for him? Do you believe you are giving an "honest" statement here? Additionally, if true, is it your belief that he sucks and can't be coached up?
  11. For what Frost accomplished in this season and the downhill trajectory, he most certainly outperformed and helped to change the trajectory in every area except OL and DL. I realize he has added some guys on the OL, but nothing that changes the trajectory [as I see it]. He appears to have at least fortified perhaps RB and WR although I would not say solidified those positions. For me, he has to change the OL position before we will perhaps see anything solidified at the RB position. I still see two more years before you see a mature OL and know if Scott/staff can recruit OL and/or develop. No kool-aid here. I'm thinking we can now win 1-2 more games next year. No bowl here.
  12. I pulled both of my groins while watching those cuts. :-) If our OL is good enough to give him that crease then he can be special. I'm hopeful for better OL depth and development to get excited for the offensive pieces.
  13. My favorite name change has to be when the Washington Bullets had to change their name to the Wizards. They said it was because of the association with violent overtones amidst rising crime. So, they changed it to the Wizards. Ha ha. For me, you couldn't have a more racist [but I'm just a stupid white guy who has been woke yet].
  14. It all gives me a good chuckle. I was called out recently by some white folks for referring to my wife as a nice gal. I grew up in Omaha and had lots of family in Omaha, Lincoln and Iowa [obviously, lots of farmers]. Everyone I knew used "gal" to refer to a girl. Well, I guess that term refers to a black slave and shows ownership and branding [as in the mark you put on a cow], according to them. My Dad was a beef selector with IGA, I never heard of that term relating to this. I don't know, maybe it does. Whatever, all I know now is that I'm a racist. It doesn't matter that my wife is black, as I used the term "gal" in a conversation. I have two black sons as well [but I'm a racist]. Ha ha.
  15. Was your earlier posts a "gut feeling" you had or did you have info and sources that made you believe and then post what you did? And since then, a few more meetings have occurred and perhaps for lack of offers he's coming here?
  16. I wouldn't be a fan of getting this guy. He's just too chubba. I don't think it would look purdy behind our current OL. Pass.
  17. It sounds like you have something from the past with me you might be bringing into the post. I was simply asking what he meant and saw by his statement of "huge get". This has nothing to do with Daniels or Toure. Both of those "gets" were very nice players for us from my eyes/vantage point. Since it's a forum, I thought it would be interesting to hear what he meant by "huge get", especially since I have no clue on who the kid or his background. It sounded like he seemed to have a "high view" of him. It is okay to ask questions an garner what another has heard or sees since it was just a recent post and no one had stated any real "details" on who this kid has been as a player. It's Christmas ... feel free to drop the axe for a couple of days. Ha ha.
  18. Obviously, you haven't seen my posts about the OL over this past year. The question for theknife was regarding what he meant by "huge get"? I took it to mean "that" as reference to him being a "body" in the mix and not necessarily a "huge get" as in ... he's a real stud who will make a great impact.
  19. Ya, that's all I take as well. Thanks for your input.
  20. Seems like a body and a fill-in for a year to me. By "huge get" you mean what? Is this kid "special" in his ability or just a "piece" that will interchange with what we've had? No clue here.
