Well that’s kinda the point when you’re talking about national recruits. Louisiana is one of the top talent-producing states and it shows they don’t have any idea who those coaches are.

just to test your theory I asked some of our players if they knew who Klieman or Leipold is. None of them had a clue. They all know who Aranda is. I think you’re giving Klieman & Leipold too much credit. Very few kids outside of the Midwest recognize those names. Yeah we’ve gotta develop players but primarily 3* classes aren’t gonna cut it no matter how much development there is. Meyer and Deion aren’t coming here so we need to just stop mentioning them.

When people are bringing up guys like Iowa’s DC or WSU’s coach or North Dakota State’s coach as candidates that tells me all i need to know. I’ve been ridiculed from the beginning for saying we need a proven winner and legit recruiter. Still plenty of folks with the “stars don’t matter” mentality

you are correct but I’ll be shocked if we get a “big time”/“home run” hire. Of course we’ll be Debbie Downers if we aren’t fans of the hire, just like when Riley was hired

Rhule is one of my top choices but I have no clue about his recruiting ability. I’m guessing his NFL pedigree would attract talent the way Callahan did?

I never said I wanted him as HC. But he recruiting ability is undeniable. still waiting for someone to provide names of candidates who can regularly land Top 15 since there are so many

he was one of LSU’s best recruiters and has strong Louisiana ties. Nebraska would quickly become the “go-to” place for kids LSU doesn’t have room for/ doesn’t want… like Palmer, Ajay Allen, Omarion Miller, etc

i just don’t see that happening. as far as what happened this past Tuesday, it came straight from Ed O at LSU… who got it from his days at USC

Unfortunately I personally think MJ is gone if he doesn’t get the HC gig… and with him go all his guys.

I’ve been saying this for years. People are quick to point out that we’ve had multiple Top 25 classes in recent years but Top 25 sucks. We need Top 15 classes full of primarily 4* talent with a few high 3*. That’s why it’s so important to have someone who can recruit and/or who kids will want to come to Lincoln to play for.

Whoever we hire, I hope we do everything we possibly can to keep MJ and Busch (Applewhite, too) on staff. I know that’s highly unlikely, though.

There’s a reason why MJ has never been brought up in head coaching searches. Great recruiter, great position coach, but not hc material.

I mean, he had a head start on everybody else... don't you think he might already have his guy? I just worry with the increasing number of HC openings each week.

All I know is that if we make a bowl, Trev will be under extreme pressure to give Mickey the job. That said, I'd like to think that Trev already has "his guy" picked out and has a deal already in place. Retaining MJ and giving him an increased salary as an incentive to stay would be great. If Mickey goes, a lot (if not all) of the guys he recruited are going to follow him. We'd also lose Omarion Miller, who's having a breakout year here in Louisiana.
