  1. Penn State is ranked fourth in total yards per game in the conference while Ohio State is at seventh in the conference... Penn State is 1-5 and Ohio State is 4-0. I wouldn't get yourself wrapped up in rankings as they can be misleading. The bigger issue we are continuing to face is an offense that is not firing on all cylinders consistently. If you're expecting our defense to be pitching shutouts, I'm sorry to disappoint you but that is not going to happen with our current system. If we are hoping to hold teams under 10-15 points a game, we're going to need to change our offensive system and become a ball control, time of possession-focused program. Since that is not currently the direction we're heading, the offense needs to start putting up at least 30-35 points a game.
  2. Just read the ESPN story about Ferentz and the clapping. For staying around one school for so long and being a B-level coach, he has quite an ego. His deflecting, to me, shows that they were clearly intentional. I’m fine with the gamesmanship but it indicates to me that he isn’t confident in his program to win without the gimmicks. What I find interesting is that Iowa has the best decade in their history with our worst in 60+ years but still can barely beat our team with Frost as HC. I’m looking forward to next year already... just hope the corner is turned in that time.
  3. I agree. Looking at the bright side, you’ve hung on for this long. You might as well keep riding and see where we go the rest of this season and into the next one. I’d like to believe getting spring football in and more of a “normal” calendar will help us into next season. Should certainly help the offensive line newcomers and young defenders.
  4. I wasn’t around for the Bill Jennings era (nor were my parents) so I don’t know how that time period was but I’m going to go out on a limb and say the game has changed a bit since that period. Putting this into a recent perspective, the team showed a lot of promise today despite the outcome. Playing redshirt freshmen or true freshmen at every level of the team is important to keep in mind. We also had a final drive chance to win against a solid, yet incredibly average Top 25 team where the small errors cost us. Far different performance than last week and appeared to get a little confidence back with Adrian back as the starter. Outcomes need to start improving but some good stuff to build on going forward.
  5. Yes, exactly! Obviously not a great past few weeks but today was important. The past couple years, our team would have likely folded at the first or second sign of adversity. Instead we lost another one score game in which we established a starter for the rest of the year, had a defense who bowed up several times and gave ourselves a chance to win. If we had half as many poor snaps or missed blocks, we win that game. Also allows us to piss Iowa off more with their best best decade of football now and still barely able to beat us. They haven’t been able to beat us by more than a touchdown since Frost got here with a total of ten wins... will be nice when we’re at least a .500 team and start rolling these guys because Iowa is the epitome of average football team.
  6. I didn’t say kids being different today is part of the reason? In fact I mentioned kids from their own class but different parts of their own their home state who came in with less noise but are working and getting on the field. I think you might be referring to a different poster, sir.
  7. Agreed! I think we just need to continue sticking it out. Frustrating as hell but we can't keep jumping coaches or getting a revolving door of assistants. If our recruits are half as good as advertised, I'd want them developing in their model and be ready to roll out ASAP. Won't be this season for drastic change but I do believe they will get the ship straightened.
  8. Our peers are having that issue with transfers happening. Iowa has lost four guys in the past month alone. A comment on one of the stories was a complaint how at the first sign of adversity in playing time, many of their Florida-area players bolt for a different school. Could be homesickness for some cases but more than likely, it's a difference of expectations. For us, I think many of our Florida issues revolve specifically around the Miami area recruits. I believe many of them thought they could walk in and outshine some of the older players. I think the Florida transfers have the talent to be good here but if they aren't willing to wait and work towards being the best, it is hard to justify playing time. Guys like Scott & Clark were quietly putting in the work and earned PT because of that work ethic. Lynum is doing that too as a special teamer. Those guys have came in less heralded but are getting more use within the system. Doesn't help that the secondary was one of our more loaded areas with upperclassmen. The Florida freshmen would have likely benefited by having some patience as three of the starting secondary guys are likely graduating/moving on after this season. I really hoped Greene would've stayed as I thought he had a lot of promise and likely would have helped with other Florida players stick it out together.
  9. Yeah that's not going to happen. AD's job is not to step in and tell a coach how to run his team. Didn't turn out very well with Eichorst & Diaco.
  10. I agree, I was trying to figure out why we only rushed 3-4 four so often. My only speculation was that the staff was unsure about safeties tackling in the open field one-on-one. Overall, I thought it was fairly well called for the game. Would have liked to see more pressure though
  11. His muscles look big in pictures. But in seriousness, he's more of a between the tackles runner whose play calls have largely asked him to go off tackle or wide.
  12. I have to wonder if it's because the safeties don't tackle very well or else we'd be blitzing a lot more. Way too many sit back a wait plays today.
  13. Frost is not going anywhere. I hope Moos stays a long time as well. A lot of posters can't seem to remember the last games of Riley's tenure where despair would be a nice way of describing the mood in the fanbase. Losing by six touchdowns at home to an average Iowa team, that was a bottom in the program. Calling for firings is some chickens#!t from my view. We've spent the last decade cycling through coordinators, coaches and assistants. Let's suck it up, pull for the team and try to reignite the optimism. Today established who should be and should have been the starter for us this season. Needs to get that swagger back and this team will follow.
  14. Not happy with the game's outcome but we're more competitive than many expected. Defense did well enough, gotta get out of all our mental errors.
  15. About the same time Martinez was avoiding the sack there, easy to armchair after the play.
  16. It's still a one score game, let's not go off the deep end yet. Plenty of time left, let's take it one play at a time here.
  17. Offense has been our downfall for the past three years.
  18. How hard is it to find a punter with a cannon? I'd imagine several high school teams in the state could provide a punter that could boot it further than we've been able to the past couple years. Rather frustrating.
  19. Same goes for Dismuke. Tough to have for both safeties
  20. Reminder, we're tied up at 20. Let's stay positive as we're in this game.
  21. Need to bring some pressure at some point. Our rush with 3 or 4 doesn't seem to be making a difference.
