  1. If Rhule is interested in Nebraska I guarantee you Trev has had talks with him. Good chance Rhule isn’t interested though given his recent buyout.
  2. Let me also preface that I like other candidates I deem more qualified over Deion, but a cultural fit is a weak argument to not want him here. I guarantee the kids would love him.
  3. I don’t know why he wouldn’t be a cultural fit. The cultural fit we have had for 20 years hasn’t worked either. What do people want? I swear people just love misery lol.
  4. Facts. He changed cultures at every stop and Wake Forest is doing good things. There have been far worse candidates mentioned on this board for sure.
  5. I love this interview with Mickey. He tells ya all you need to know if you were to hire him.
  6. It’s fun for us all to speculate, but my guess is Trev has almost everything in place for what he wants to do. I don’t think we need to worry about lists anymore it’s either decided or in the final deliberations. Thanksgiving isn’t far away which is good news for our anxiety lol.
  7. I think it would be a good hire since Mickey and Busch have a great working relationship with Aranda and Aranda brings a top notch OC with him that goes by the moniker “RVO” reliable violent offense. Jeff Grimes is a proven offensive line developer and runs a desired offense. I think meshing with Mickey here would be a solid hire
  8. I don't think Deion will leave where he is at until he can coach at Florida St which I think is inevitable.
  9. Hypothetical if Mickey is retained he will overhaul the staff, but I think will be able to keep most of the kids on the roster who are coming back. I heard him talk in an interview a week or so ago about recruiting and developing being the lifeblood of a program over the X's and O's, so guessing he will surround himself with elite recruiters and developers of young men. By elite recruiters, its not always about Rival rankings. Justin Jefferson from the Vikings was a 2* when Mickey recruited him to LSU. Its about identifying talent and developing it. Some people on this board don't like to hear that. Coming from a championship team at LSU in 2019, I would not be at all surprised if he brings back some coaches from that staff and other high level coaches across the country to join the staff. I have no doubts Busch would stay on in some capacity and guessing Applewhite as well. I think Trev would open the checkbook for Mickey to bring in the best coaches to work with him.
  10. So the metric we should use instead of win/ loss then is how did Coach A and his recruiting rating do against Coach B who has a worse recruiting rating. By your rating Dave Clawson and Wake Forest defeating Georgia Southern and Clay Helton would be an upset. You cant use Clay Heltons recruiting rating from USC, you have to use what he inherited at Georgia Southern. What was the recruiting class Matt Rhule inherited at Temple and Baylor? Did you expect him to land top 10 classes given what he inherited at those places? What he did with less was amazing. He won games he had no business winning. Then look at Dave Aranda and what he inherited after his stay at Baylor? Way too many variables. You cant generalize wins and losses.
  11. So by your logic Matt Rhule, Lance Leipold, and Dave Clawson are horrible coaches and shouldn't be considered for a major opportunity because they haven't won over 60% of their games? Are you trolling?
  12. For that amount of money I would be sipping margaritas by an ocean for eternity :>)
  13. Understood. Found this nugget on 247 sports by Chris Hummer in regard to Rhule and his player development. You mentioned his recruiting classes above so wanted to bring to light what he did with less: "Few coaches have developed like Rhule, and you can see that success peppered across the NFL Draft. Six Owls were selected while Rhule was the program’s head coach. Six more of his former recruits were drafted in the two years after Rhule departed. That’s 12 draft picks in four years. Temple produced total 12 draft picks between 1997-2015. The Owls also haven’t had a non-Rhule recruit drafted since. His results at Baylor were nearly as impressive. Baylor had the seventh-most players drafted of any college in the 2022 NFL Draft. Those like Tyquan Thornton and Kalon Barnes lit up the combine with their testing times. All six of them were Rhule evaluations and recruits. Given his recruiting pools and circumstances, few, if any, college coaches have done a better job evaluating and developing than Rhule over the last decade."
  14. Given this scenario, Mickey and Busch have a great working relationship with Aranda so I can see that being plausible. I disagree about a lateral move with Campbell, Leipold, and Klieman. Whether we like them or not, they are all experienced head coaches who have developed players as coordinators and head coaches in less than ideal conditions. Speaking of Leipold, has been a HC for a long time and Mickey would be able to learn a ton with him in the mix. He has a lot of Bill Snyder in him, no nonsense approach. Leipold isn't my #1, but I think he would do well here especially if Mickey is staying around. How can you not be sure of Rhule? We are Nebraska who hasn't been relevant for 20+ years. It would be a huge hit if Rhule considers coaching here.
  15. Agree. There are very few home run hires out there. He seems like he has the highest floor and the highest ceiling of "Available" candidates. If Rhule is interested in coaching instead of buying an island with his Panthers money, he would be a logical play to be considered if he is interested.
  16. Architecture/Construction industry. We use a similar process with a company that has their recruiters reach out to potential office candidates for us, utilizing our job description without sharing our company name to gauge interest in our position to keep it discreet. The recruiter will then present their findings to us and we look over their resumes and their conversation with the recruiter and decide if we want to take it further. Its nothing set in stone and mainly information gathering to make sure we hit the ground running if a change is made versus trying to react and possibly have down time by a rash decision. Completely different industry for sure, but a handy method if necessary.
  17. In all honesty, how long do you all feel Trev has been working behind the scenes to find the new HC? Do you think discussions with agents began after last season and he just had to wait to see how things played out with Scott and with the initial interested coaches contracts before he could make a move? Now he has the private agency talking contracts and negotiating with these coaches and the possible assistant coaches who would be joining them, whether it be Mickey or someone else who has been vetted already? I only ask because in the business I am in we usually start looking at other candidates and narrow it down to a few, before we replace a current employee. We generally have an idea of who we are bringing in and Trev seems calculated in that way as well. Just curious your opinion.
  18. Is there a possibility we are all glossing over that Mickey doesn't want or expect the main gig and has discussed such with Trev. Maybe he likes being a recruiter and developer and not someone who runs the whole show?
  19. Great CEO's have the confidence and the humility to surround themselves with people who are much smarter than they are. Mickey is a leader. I guarantee he would surround himself with an amazing staff to compliment his weaknesses.
  20. I think Saturday is the biggest game of the season for him. I think if we can "Cover" the Vegas spread and we make it a competitive game or even pull the upset, he jumps in front of many candidates for me that are no better than a 50/50 chance of succeeding here. I think we can safely say if we win Saturday, that this is not a program that needs to be rebuilt, but its a program in rehab and recovery. We know Mickey will recruit and will hire the best people who can develop and recruit their tails off with him, which is what we need here for sustained success. That's why I feel if it isn't Mickey who takes over at HC it makes sense for Dave Aranda to take over and work with Mickey and Busch since they have had previous success working together and seem to share a great deal of chemistry together. Just my two cents.
  21. Disclaimer: In no way am I comparing a one win Mickey Joseph with the "Great" Dabo Swinney, but if you are looking for a successful comp for Mickey I found the irony of the start of Dabo's career as a HC eerily similar to what Mickey has the potential to accomplish this season. If this has been shared already my apologies I don't get to hit up this board as often as I would like. Below taken from Wikipedia: Clemson[edit] In 2002, Tommy Bowden—Swinney's former position coach at Alabama— offered him the position of wide receivers coach at Clemson, and Swinney joined in 2003. He also took over as recruiting coordinator from popular longtime coordinator Rick Stockstill. Swinney proved to be both an excellent wide receivers coach as well as recruiting coordinator, coaching ACC-leading receivers and being named one of the nation's top 25 recruiters in 2007 by Rivals.com.[6] 2008 season[edit] See also: 2008 Clemson Tigers football team Swinney was named the interim head football coach on October 13, 2008, after head coach Tommy Bowden resigned six games into the season.[7] The Tigers had started the year ranked #9 in the preseason polls, but then went 3–3 (1–2 ACC) in their first six games.[8] At the time he was informed of his promotion, he was working with the wide receivers on their upcoming game.[9] With a reputation as a top-notch recruiter, Swinney was chosen over Clemson defensive coordinator Vic Koenning (former head coach of Wyoming), and associate head coach Brad Scott (former head coach of South Carolina).[10] Swinney's first actions as interim head coach were to fire offensive coordinator Rob Spence and introduce a new tradition, the "Tiger Walk", where all players and coaches walk through the parking lot outside Memorial Stadium about two hours before a game as they head inside for final game preparations.[11] On October 18, in his first game as interim Head Coach, the team lost to Georgia Tech 21–17.[12] On November 1, 2008, Swinney claimed his first victory as the Tigers' head coach by defeating Boston College, breaking Clemson's six-game losing streak against the Eagles. On November 29, 2008, Swinney coached Clemson to a 31–14 win over South Carolina in the annual rivalry game, after which Clemson became bowl eligible. After a vote of confidence from athletic director Terry Don Phillips, Swinney was formally named as Clemson's 27th head coach on December 1, 2008. In his first game as the full-time head coach, he lost the 2009 Gator Bowl to the Nebraska Cornhuskers 26–21. Swinney's recruiting reputation became evident when he produced five top-20 ESPN recruiting classes in a row, including top 10 classes in 2011 and 2012.[13] As a result, Clemson was one of only 10 schools to be ranked in the top 20 of recruiting five years in a row (along with LSU, Alabama, Texas, USC, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, and Oklahoma), and as of 2014 Swinney was one of only four active head coaches at the time to accomplish the feat (along with Nick Saban, Les Miles, and Bob Stoops).[13] Despite his recruiting reputation, Swinney was an unpopular hire among some Clemson fans. Some fans and pundits noted that he had never been more than a position coach. Others were skeptical that Clemson had opted to retain one of Bowden's assistants.[14][15]
  22. 100% accurate. This defeatist attitude shows more on the individual speaking than the situation at hand. Georgia is a great example and I would throw in Michigan last season. They went from zero to hero in a similar situation to ours. Like you mentioned it takes leadership and the right players to make things click. Every good CEO learns from their mistakes and moves on to improve their product. Look at the revamped recruiting methods we are utilizing this offseason. We are attacking the portal for direct needs and have put an emphasis on recruiting the 500 mile radius again. Mickey is in Omaha again today visiting schools where we have let players get away. No one should have anything negative to say, as this offseason has been extremely positive for progression both on the field and in football recruiting relationships.
  23. Speaking of…when will Nebraska follow suit? I am sure Ron Brown will be kept on as an analyst, but not too many other names come to mind like you see in the SEC. I think Sean Snyder would be a good add as an analyst if he doesn’t get a new gig .
  24. I think that is why Raiola was brought in to develop what we have. I think the talent is there and we added two nice pieces and would bet we add another one after spring ball. I am happy you mentioned better QB options as I feel Martinez deserves just as much of the blame as people are putting on the O-line.
