  1. I don't care about how many touches. I don't care about how many yds. Don't really care about big blocks either. Didn't recruit this kid to block anyway IMO. What Lucky can do to serve himself and the team best... is find that EZ. He has a good knack of doing just that. Come out each week looking for scoreboard. Coach Jordan talked about being happy. Yes feel good and enjoy the ride. You only go around once. If it helps him find that promise land (da end zone) ... go for it ... don't worry... be happy... (pardon the pun) be Lucky. In fact leave the field unfullfilled had you not scored that day or set the team for that big score. Like Walter Payton used to do and feel. Marlon has it all. The tools, the experience, the situation and the ball in his hands now. He has pure instincts. Takes care of the ball. Always has it in the right hand (something BJax could of taken a lesson from), catches well out of the backfield and by golly didn't he even throw for a score last season? We haven't even tapped all of his resources yet. Otherwise find him a good woman (not some Mustang Sally) and watch him shift it in 4th gear....(LMAO... inside joke). Now that would make a busta bust a move.
  2. All I know is Ruud was thought of highly enough to be picked by opposing coaches as the best in the conference. Probably because when they filled out their ballots and thought who deserves to be picked... they remembered looking at films and seeing Ruud make some big plays or lead the Huskers in tackles that day. As for missing tackles and such... I see em all do that from time to time. Even all pro guys like Urhlacher and Lewis.
  3. Swifty will alright. Seeing how BC likes to use so many multiple reciever sets, there is more than enuff to go around. Seemed to me that someone different had a chance to shine every week. From Hardy burning KU to Peterson's clutch catches at TAMU. IMO in this scheme, no one guy is featured. Its about reads and taking advantage of matchups. One week it might be Purify the next it might be Swift making big plays. Whats important is being there when your number is called.
  4. Not the Potter I know. He was captain in HS and quite the opposite of a me player. Kept everyone very loose. Great sense of humor. All the kids at Prep looked up to him. The faculty absolutely adored him. Not cocky at all. In fact he could use more of a "Im the booger with the sugar" mentality. He hated lifting back in the day and his co-captains and teamates kind of pushed him to do so in the offseason. Rather be on the basketball court somewhere instead. Always smiling and could make people around him smile. Always felt he was meaner on the basketball court. In football he had size over most, knew that and took advantage of it every chance he got. Where you get your info is bogus... this young man is quite the opposite of what you described. A buddy from high school was doing an internship as a athletic trainer during Potter's last 2 years. He said that Potter was a good kid, but they had to push him to get in the weight room. He hadn't really touched a weight until summer before his senior season. We'll see if he is ready to go this year. If he isn't, there will be someone that will take his job, but he will be given the opportunity to earn a spot. You are spot on. I watched him go to workouts that last summer (attended a ton of Prep home baseball games). Even heard him say he hated those workouts but he wasn't the only one. Some of his buddies and teamates really pushed all of them that summer. You wouldn't believe how they went at it. Those kids were on a mission that yr. Paid off handsomely too.
  5. Correct me if Im wrong but Stoopes has gotten to the big game several times.....how often has he won them? Out of curiousity what is his bowl game record? Not saying Callahan is necessarily better but I would hold off on crowning Stoopes a "god" until he can win the big game (something Callahan can't do either) Yes he turns out prospects and gets results, but isn't most sucess measured by wins and losses? Seems like Callahans succes is. Dunno his bowl record but he has won a NC, something only one of the rest of the candidates for this prestigious award can claim. Also has been in the CC game more than the rest. Played in the most BCS bowls. This is about the best coach in the conference. If he isn't the best, he certainly is the most successful. Dunno what other criteria is needed here. This isn't a popularity contest. As for Callahan, his win loss record isn't much to crow about yet. And that includes pro record too. Lets face it. Coaches are judged by wins and losses. To whom, where, when and why. We just don't remember also rans as great coaches. Nature of the beast.
  6. Its taking too long to heal. Sounds like time to see another specialist for another opinion. If surgery is needed, it needs to happen soon so he has a chance to recoup.
  7. Not the Potter I know. He was captain in HS and quite the opposite of a me player. Kept everyone very loose. Great sense of humor. All the kids at Prep looked up to him. 8. Catching a flat ball isn't real difficult. Usually they aren't thrown as hard. You get a good look at it. It looks bigger than a tight spiral. Its just you get so used to catching a spiral that it can be a adjustment for some. If you are looking it all the way in though, you should be able to make that adjustment without thinking too much. Our WRs do need to learn to tuck it better after catch. That IMO was a big thing last season that we didn't do so well.
  9. Balls that point up tend to float. Point down and the ball gets there quicker. You are taught to catch the point in the middle of the diamond (diamond meaning pallms out, putting thumbs close together, spread fingers, you will see a diamond in the middle where the point of the ball should go.). If the point is up, you have to open your hands a bit, palms to the side of the ball and catch the ball on its sides (like a basketball rebound) instead of letting the point of the ball split your hands. Tea IMO needs to avoid the palms up thing (ala Texas A&M game where he tried to catch it palms up with a craddle job against his body).
  10. Cody aggravated his foot again today (Friday). That thing just won't heel...
  11. Wow... Does this bring a new meaning to pig sooooowie?!?!?!
  12. Even if he comes back ... he will be so far behind. You just can't get football ready with that big of a layoff and be Big XII ready some 3-5 games in schedule. Lets don't forget he hasn't played a down since Michigan game. It will be a just short of a miracle if he comes back this yr the same player we saw that night in the Alomo Bowl.
  13. Leach in front of Callahan. (Or have we forgotten the shellacking he gave Billy Cee his first meeting or that Callahan teams has not beat Leach teams yet). Francione in front of Mangino. Francione and Callahan about even. Brown number two because he is a good people's coach and such a great recruiter. Stoopes over all of them because he gets results every yr and turns out coaching prospects from his program about every yr. He is doing something right. Until the rest of them can get at least a division title or consistanly go bowling... they rank about the same IMO.
  14. If I'm judge and this matter comes before me... I call in both parties. Spank their hands, admonish both parties for wasting the public's resources and the courts time with this drivel, childish behavior. Drop the charges and make both pay court costs. Tell them If they ever appear in court on something of this nature the penalties will be much harsher. Then I'd make em hug, kiss and make up. Like I said before... We have unsportsmanlike conduct on both sides. Penalties offset and replay down. There problem solved. I was also told on another thread, on another board... "He wears the uniform of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. As such, he's held to a higher behavioral standard than much of the rest of society." This is pure Husker corn. What a crock of bull. Yeah maybe so in the eyes of coaches, university and team... but for me, they have the same standards as you and I. That freaking uniform doesn't make them any better or different than you or I. No... put on a uniform of any armed forces unit... then you are truely held to a higher standard. Otherwise we are talking about football players. When Callahan called those OU fans Hillbillies should he of been cited too? Or when he gave ole Fat boy slim shady Steve Useless the throat slash gesture, was a citation warranted? Isn't this the same principle? How about Shatel and Pederson going toe to toe in the papers? Didn't they kind of showed a lack of respect for each other? You can argue all of these things disturbed the peace. It sure disturbed the peace for a ton of Husker backers. All ya gotta do is go to any Husker board to see how many were disturbed. When that inconsiderate scatterbrain called the keystone kops, they should of told her to stop stealing parking spaces and you won't have these problems. And Sam should know better. His emotions got the best of him. Shyt happens. Still is a fine and carceration warranted? The whole thing is so childish its funny really. All that is needed here... is apologies by both parties... no harm no foul. Whats my fav saying again? Oh yeah... If u don't like the effects... Don't produce the cause. And that goes for both parties involved. (Personally I was more offended when the coach made the "its just another game, another season" remark. Now that garnered a disturbing the peace citation... )
  15. Sometimes the press ask dumb things. Supposed to get dumb answers. Coaches do need to watch what they say. Take the dumbest team in America remark. It didn't hurt until the players responded back in public. Something that the Raiders never used to do. They always kept their little squabbles in the lockeroom. It was the big reason why it was a mistake on his part. He lost the team after that episode. He even included himself and the staff when he make those remarks but the damage was done. Remember the "only one game ... one season" remark? Another no-no. You knew that one wouldn't fly. Its never just another season around here. Learned that one the hard way. Then his famous "whachu talking about Willis?" response to "Slashgate". I think B.C. is learning to be a little more careful about what he says in these things now.
  16. She was inconsiderate and stole his spot. He was inconsiderate and called her a bunch of so-and-sos and threw a fast food cup. Tweet... we have offsetting penalties. Replay the down.
  17. My big concern with Joey Gee is his size. He is 6'1" and 200 lbs but mayun he looks small when he is on the field with all those big behemoths running around on the field. Gotta feeling I'll be holding my breath a few times should he win the job (Remembering the punishment ZT took the last 2 seasons.)
  18. My # 14 from the "Introduce yourself" thread. 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Herbie with his goofy otay (SNL reference) gang sign, and overalls. Ya know.. L'il Red is actually a kewl guy. Had a friend whose sister was a cheerleader at NU. One day she and a couple of teamates came to our our bar as part of our entertainment for we held our annual golf tourney that weekend (imma say 1996 or 97?). They brung L'il Red with them as part of the entertainment. Well we had a few too many cocktails that day and ended up trying to beat up l'il Red. It was so much fun. He played along and kept bouncing around like those clown punching balloons we used to have when we were kids. Red has some tricks up his sleeves and was a riot ... (especially when you have had a few). He stole the show and helped us raise $$$ for some charity. Good thing he doesn't have much for arms had he chose to hit back. L'il red isn't so little.
  19. Skers... I too am a big fan of lil Frankie Solich. Came into my neighborhood and turned around a Holy Name team we would make a ton of fun of. Couldn't laugh at them anymore after he arrived. Been even a bigger fan of him since (was one of my heros as a player first, yeah I'm that old). Don't know if we made the right decision to fire him or not. Time will tell. I shouldn't brought up the contract extension thing. Wasn't fair. Threw you a knuckle ball there. Still this is Nebraska. Losing 5 a season won't cut it I think. Didn't for the last staff as they avg. better than 5 a yr. I don't think at the end of B.C's contract fans will be clamouring for him to stay should it continue this way. You are right... he has 3 seasons to get it done. Getting it done I think would be winning the conference or go BCS bowling for most. Then again with Pedersen, who knows what he is thinking. Personally I see good and not so good W/B.C. Sometimes the staff reeks of inexperience IMO. Lets don't forget he really wasn't real experienced as a HC b4 he arrived. Can be stubborn as a mule (but what HC isn't). Sometimes he looks like a genuis, other times you are watching game and thinking "what da hell?!?!?! Sometimes I think he a better O.C. than a H.C> and should be one instead. I also think the recruiting thing is overblown. Still gotta coach em and keep em. Keeping them has not been a Callahan era trait so far. So what good is a great recruit class when half of them leave in a yr or two. Besides we have done mighty well without top ten recruit classes in the past. The book is still out yet. We could go either way with this. Besides ... it aint about Still Bill. Its about guys like you watching our backs wherever you are stationed while we watch our games all cozy in our living rooms. For that I thank and salute you from a Viet Nam era vet who was fortunate enough to serve stateside during his stint while others paid the ultimate price in harms way. That also goes for you too Husker Rob if you are currently serving as well. Ooooh-rah baby.
  20. OMG!!! "I envision Lil' Red as Big Boy's jealous, bitter younger brother, who tried to open his own chain of restaurants but failed, and is now reduced to shooting Slim Jims and children's coloring menus out of a t-shirt cannon to fans during Nebraska games." That is just too funny.... Husker 37... you get the good looking out post of the month. I give you a 10 clap salute. Take a bow my man.
  21. I thought it was UNO he was being a consultant to? Maybe it is Creighton? Anyway, I can't think of a better candidate to be A.D. at NU.
  22. The problem with this post is... the former staff is not here anymore. This interview, whats happening at NU now and the future has nothing to do with the last staff. There are a 100 arguments about then and now. Plus its not fair to say "It would have never happened with what we had before." Thats pure speculation. Bottomline. We avg 5 losses a yr since the changes. Only finished ranked once and barely at that. Yes we won the North division but lets be honest. Most of the division is in some sort of transition with changes of various degrees. One can argure that the whole division is dealing with the "gravitating toward mediocrity" syndrome. I think NU fans are hungry for more. This staff needs to get more accomplished with the team before we can talk about extention of contracts and how much better off this is compared to anything we've seen in the past. Its been just OK so far. Problem is, OK doesn't fly around here long. The bar was set by the admn. when this change first occurred. "We will not surrender the conference to Texas and Oklahoma." That still applies.
  23. X-factor - Offensive line. Somebody at a few places will need to shine. We lost Patrick and Huff will miss spring. Also posibly starting a new center. We are going to need to find out if the depth up front will be adequate. We will need leaders up front step up. Last yr it was pound the rock. Well we did run the ball better but we can still be more consistant. Pass pro also improved still it needs to be way better. Reading these posts... mayun we have some question marks going into next season.
  24. Yes it does... But better now than in August...
  25. Ouch!... They have Bjax rated at 10th?
