  1. I keep hearing fans are not being fair to Cody by speculating. Excuse me???... by breaking team rules he was not fair to his team or us the fans. And since its a private matter, there will be speculation. Black and white, plain and simple, nanny nanny boo boo. Look .... If you don't like the effects... DON'T PRODUCE THE CAUSE!!! No matter what he done... I can't feel sorry for him messing up and now ppl are speculating what it was. I have no tears. It's a honor and a dream for countless of young men to don the scarlet and cream through out the yrs. Well he just let a lot of those that have/had those dreams down. I say speculate on...can't hurt no more than we are now. As for him... I just can't feel too sorry for him. His team mates yes...
  2. And the Bears copied the ideal from Bill Walsh and the 49ers. The 49ers however used a offensive lineman instead of a defensive tackle. Mike Ditka used it because the 49ers used it on them the yr before they used it. It started as a reltaliation play vs 49ers but it worked so well it became a goal line weapon.
  3. With the KSU HC announcing his stepping down, this puts KSU in precarious position. So in light of this, I just don't see a upset vs Mizzou. Then again in Prince's first yr, he fired a bunch of kids on the spot before a game and they won that week. Texas Tech is riding high this week. The question is, do they get grounded enough to beat a ever improving OSU team. I think they will in a good old fashioned shootout. It will take another solid defensive effort this week. ISU @ CU is a pickem game for me. So is the KU @ NU game. CU has a ton of injuries to overcome and ISU's young pups have a chance to mature on the road. I'll go with the home team but don't bet the morgage on it. Both KU and NU have fought consistency all season. Especially on defense. This game could take 4 days to complete should either team not find its running game. Who ever gets out fast and first wins this one. I'll go with the home team on this one too in a thrilla. Cy pretty much hit the other ones IMO.
  4. They are saying he will finish this season...
  5. You are right Cy about perception. Stoops can be animated just as bad as Pellini but little is said because of his record. Woody Hayes and Vince Lombardi made Bo look like a choir boy in their day. Bob Devaney was no angel too on the sidelines. In this day of media and internet overload of information, things like this come to the attention of the masses in a fashion unheard of yrs ago. While his intense sideline demeanor and behavior means little to me, its imparative that Bo sees it does impact those with the "Gee wilikers... this guy is mean" attitudes. For me its a Coach Green attitude. "We knew what we were getting when we hired him!! You can make him out to be want you want!! We just want winners around here dagummit it!! If it takes hurtin some feelings around here so be it!!" Too bad this doesn't work anymore in today's politically correct world. Right now you have members of the press that feel their stories are more important than the teams well being. Bo has to aware of this because they can be wolves before this is over. The press can make ya or break ya around here. NU fans can be gullible and take things they hear and read as gospel. So in retrospect... he probably does need to tone it down some. Not for our sake but for the program's sake.
  6. Huh? Its the 2nd qtr? Hmmmmmm.... Just like they raced out and put a bundle up on the board early, we could of came out that 2nd half and matched their performance. Too much game left to play. I coach both HS football and baseball. We always go with the approach of getting out fast and stomp on their throats when you can until they cry uncle! You can bet your opponents will do the same to you. Send em home crying to their mommas if you can. No you don't want to rub it in but 2nd qtr? No such thing as rubbing it in that early in the contest. You call off the dawgs in the 4th period.
  7. The round went to Cy... Lets ask the judges... How about you Randy. What did you think? Randy: I dunno dawg. The whole thing just didn't jive with me. All the whining by some in the backup NU fan singers was kind of pitchy for me. And you Paula? Paula: I thought Cy gave some thoughtful interesting points. He will always be one of favorites for years to come. How about your thoughts Simon... Simon: The whole thing was hideous. All the nanny-nanny boo-boo being tossed around. The whole performance was unforgettable. We will wake up tomorrow and won't remember a word that was said. How about you Suga? Sugalean: Well I thought he started off well. He gave us great facts although they were rough and tough to read. He made his points albeit they were unpopular. In the middle he might of went below his yrs with all the cutting of dozens. Still he handled himself well. No doubt about it, this Cy can flame with the best of them. His dismount however saved the routine. I gave him 9.85. Great techniques and imagination. Too bad he is a Cyclone, we could use someone with his guts and gile in the Sea of Red.
  8. Double standard? So what if there is one? I'm all for anything that makes this team better than what we were seeing. I'm not going to sit here and double think what ppl think. Fans don't coach or run the program. They don't call plays nor schedule games. Nor do the press. All of this is just non-productive BS. Its time for letting Nebraska football be Nebraska football. Expect some ups and downs along the way.
  9. I don't see the players losing out as some of the press members were saying. What nonsense.
  10. Doubt Q would go for switching positions. He'd be starting over at a position that would have ppl in front of him next season. Too late for that this season. Guess we are stuck with his leaving his feet, putting his head down and fumbling style for awhile boyz.
  11. Okies ... I've voted. But really... Do we really need a poll to tell us that TO is the best coach we know of DEAD OR ALIVE?. nuff said?
  12. No one has a good or great defense in the Big XII north. Thus all the high scores by everyone. Think about it...
  13. Oz already got his first recruit. A stud kid (some linebacker) signed the first game after TO was named interim A.D. OZ talked to him on a offical visit and the young man took his word that everything would be alright in the end and he would do fine at NU and the young man commited right away. Also... T.O. per NCAA rules will be allowed to continue to recruit for some time even after a HC is named. That has to be a bonus of huge porpotions. (can ya imagine someone commiting to NU because Stevo recruited him? I think not. Now TO walking in your living room with 5 NC rings and countless conf. title rings to show .... priceless.)
  14. Cally's offense is better suited for a QB who can throw on the move some. Keller is weak at this (see bootleg last week on the grounding call). Sam is also not as effective on play action than sitting back and surveying say like a shotgun set. That in itself is a liabillity to this WCO. You got to have that type of action to make it (da WCO) that more effective. Taylor was good throwing on the run and off the play action. Always felt he needed a quicker release. Keller has the quick release but its only effictive on dink passes. Vince Young can sling it like Sam but can do it 30-40 yds down field. Sam I don't think can. Taylor picked up the system better in same amount of time although he did have the benefit of actually playing 1 more yr. Consider other factors. Taylor the edge in the end. Won more ball games career wise.
  15. I like the one he used when referring to when Murtha may be ready... "We are hoping that he will be ready for bowl game practice." I wonder what bowl he was thinking of? (Do they have a bowl in Council Bluffs?)
  16. Hard to believe this one. There is no cheering in the media box. They all know this and in fact its usually pretty quiet. Even Justice wouldn't pull this one.
  17. They are captains. Sometimes some of the captains are out there for a meeting with officials during the time other things are going on. Sometimes Callahan waves em on, sometmes he runs out front of them. I wouldn't take anything from this.
  18. If Coz has been doing this for such a long time... then someone please tell me why he cannot get this unit to have better results. If he knows what to expect... then why doesn't this apply at game times with in-game play calling and adjustments. One thing I've noticed with his defenses since arriving at NU. They usually get better as season goes along. Hopefully this will be the case for remaining games. Its our only hope Obi Wan Kanobe. (Think... we haven't lost to OSU @ home since like 1960. We lose Sat. and its another issue to deal with next week. Mayun this team must lead the nation in issues. Its been one after another since 2000.)
  19. Win the North?!?!? The way we are playing right now. We couldn't win the MAC let along the North. Central Mich probably would be favored to beat us. We are seeing the same problems over and over again since changing of the guard back in 04. Lets see. We have pass pro is questionable. Run blocking non existant at the worst possible moments, most noticeable in short yardage situations. Runners run into own players. Receivers run funky routes and drop balls. No pass rush. Some of the ugliest tackling techniques ever seen by players wearing Husker uniforms. Defenders out of position. Questionable play calling. Defenders that tackle each other and blockers that tackle thier own runners (admit it, you've seen that too this season). And most of all, game plans and schemes that just don't work. On the last issue, add in adjustments that either don't happen or fail to produce results in our favor. Now think about it. Aren't these the same problems we have been screaming about since the Pedersen 2004 changing of the Nebraska guard? Now they can say "we just need to go back and fix some things" but sheesh they have been fixing the same things now for 3 1/2 seasons. Time to Cowboy up Huskerteers. Quit being so dang Charmin squeezable soft and play sock you in the mouth vintage NU football or they will get booed again and complaining about the press, fans and "not having fun" again.
  20. Oz would be a great AD. Age would be a factor as someone pointed out. At this point Solich wasn't that bad of a hire when looking back on his record. Had some bad losses but he also had some good things done that everyone conviently chooses not to remember. At least the boys in scarlet weren't getting pushed around and were very physical. We look soft now. (see players getting pushed to the ground at end of plays last night and not doing anything about it.) Oz would of had the new additions about paid for by now. The whole football community would look up to him. Pedey has enemies out there (ask ESPN and the Houston AD what they think of him.) The man has a doctorate for petes sake. He's smart enough alright. Also has good admn skills as well. Lets don't forget he was a congressman. What more credentials would he need as a administrator?
  21. I totally agee BLKSHIRTD. Cory Mac is probably my fav Husker. I think he is smarting from his own play, losing playing time in crunch situations and the other things he mentioned. I just don't understand why he went public with it. He and his fellow mates need to put away the rabbit ears. Booing comes along with the territory when you are playing in such a big spotlight. Not that I condone this actions from the fans but you have to realize it may happen when you are a player and try not to let it affect you. Along with that, newspaper articles, fans, foes, any media outlet and especially the internet. You can't let those outside interests affect your play and goals. Remain focused and keep your eye on the prize.
  22. One thing I've noticed since the staff changes about our defense. Every yr at the front of the season you would see a lot of mistakes. Missed assignments, poor tackling, ect... ect. As the season wore on the shirts would improve. Heres to hoping this trend continues this year. We are going to face some offenses in the near future that can move the ball fairly well (trying to not sound like T.O.).
  23. Let me get this straight... You give up almost 90 points in back 2 back games. Even the greatest fans in the world are subject to boo a performance like that especially versus a team that hasn't had a winning record since the mid ninties or so. Whacha expect Cory Mac? A parade? Last yr it was "the crowd is too loud, we can't hear each other communicate". This year its "the booing is hurting our feelings". Somebody needs a hug... *********************** Somebody hand me a towel. That was the saddest tale I've heard in some time. *********************** Loose lips burn ships. TMI about the injuries. The enemy maybe listening. *********************** The Shirts were head hanging last week. Looked whipped to me. The game wasn't even over yet. If its energy or motivation thats needed then its up to the upperclassmen of the unit to provide it and spread it. Time to be a leader not a whiner. Hmmmm.... I coach baseball. I know I've given this speech before. "You will not be champions until you start believing and acting like one". And thats talking to lil leaguers. *********************** Here is how Cory can get his spot back. 1. Don't repeatedly run into your own man. 2. Take proper angles on attack. 3. Stop moving in wrong direction thus faking yourself out. 4. And my favorite... quit leaving feet to make tackles so much. *********************** Octavien also apologized for whining to the press about the booing. Then he went out in the hall afterwards and told the press players aren't really buying in to what they are directed to do on defense. Not that again. (Remembering B. Ruud's comments after Cally's first season). Well there's more fuel for the dump Coz contingent. *********************** This whole episode baffles me. Have I fell asleep, then woke up and found we are in Lawrence Kansas or Ames Iowa now? Those kind of issues are issues elsewhere. Not at Nebraska. Can you see the Peter Bros or a Mike Brown or a Grant Wistrom complaining we are hurting their feelings with boos? Billy Cee said he was having fun. He was like anytime he wins its fun. Sure it was close and sloppy but it was a win. We'll just go back and fix some things and everything will be hunky dory. You know Bill. Just another game another season. I see nothing... hear nothing. I'll tell you what thou. Say what happened last Sat. happened down in Norman. Think Bobby Stoopes would be all giddy this week? You know he wouldn't. Heads would roll, practice would be tough, coaches wives would be upset because they wouldn't see hubby for days until he was satisfied. Once after a win that he didn't like, he told the press that no coach would leave the next day until they went over everything they do from practice to leaving the tunnel to see if changes or improvements could be made. Then he opened up positions like it was the spring practices and everyone had to earn their spots all over again. This was after a win! Heck he just gave them permission to wear names on the jerseys again this yr. There is the difference from our coach and the Big XII champions coach. He simply doesn't put up with petty issues. Since this staff arrived its been one issue after another, week after week, and now the fans are involved in these issues. CAN WE GET RID OF ALL THE ISSUES AND GO BACK TO PLAYING HUSKER FOOTBALL?!?!?!
  24. On the DBs late in the game... They (USC) did some shuffling around with DBs late in the game but we must remember that they came in with injuries at those spots so they couldn't platoon as much. It seemed to me that once Keller was afforded some time to throw, the passing game improved. However, when the starters were in up front and at LBs... NU was nowhere as successful.
  25. it isn't arrogance if it's the truth: we are better than missouri. our 'greatness' isn't past tense: it's here and it's now. Nicely said Hack. I caught that bitter little comment that was said too. DJR - what is up about the wedding on gameday? You are definately going to be scoring some points that day - as much as it will be killing you inside. 'Sokay bro... as long as you get the Telee to watch it. Point is.... A game that close? And the Huskers are playing? They can devise 1000 schemes but it won't keep the cob heads out. We will be there even if they call out the national guard to keep us out. NU fans can be ingenius in finding ways to get in a game. They have proven it time after time in the past. Remember the last couple of CWS we qualified for? Messed up the whole thing by us buying out as many tickets as we could. Then when NU was eliminated, many chose not to go leaving a ton of empty seats for some of the remaining games. Scalping was so bad... the ppl in charge are now toughening up scalpers close to the park whereas in yrs past it wasn't such a big deal.
